    The hard rock renovation was amazing. I went there and it’s a completely different stadium than what it used to be.

      Yes I agree 100%. I live in Detroit but my family lives in Miami and I've been to Hardrock Stadium before the renovation and I saw the Marlins and the Dolphins there. After the renovations were done I've been fortunate enough to go back a few times and see the Dolphins play and the stadium looked PHENOMENAL! That is probably the best renovation I've ever seen to a stadium/arena! It looks like they tore the old stadium down and built a new stadium, that's how good of a job they did.

    Veterans Stadium’s “renovation” was more than just new seats, although the new seats alone would still have been a huge upgrade.
    The city owned and maintained the Vet from the start, but by the late 80’s, it was clear it didn’t have the resources to keep up with maintenance. They reached a deal with the Phillies in the early 90’s whereby the team took over management and maintenance of the stadium. One of the first things the Phil’s did was arrange to host the 1993 Notre Dame-Navy game.
    They then started long overdue work. Over 2 years, they water sealed the concrete decking (the entire structure was built of reinforced concrete) and replaced the seats.
    While nothing like the new retro parks opening up at that time, the maintenance probably extended the structural life of the stadium by years.

    Shea Stadium got a big renovation in about 1980. Redone exterior and seats. They modernized it, and looked pretty good, especially with the neon baseball figures on the outside.

    I grew up going to old Busch. I loved it. It felt like you were entering the coliseum or something. The arches and the size of the place made it feel like a cathedral of baseball to me lol. It was hands down the best cookie cutter. I remember sitting in the right field upper deck a few times and if you looked closely on the edges, you could see the old red seats still in place underneath the green scoreboards and tarps. I guess they never took them out and just put in the scoreboards. Which were bad ass.

      Agreed. I was really little when Busch 3 was built so I don’t remember Busch 2 too well but what I do remember was it feeling like this epic cathedral

    Busch Stadium was really nice after the renovation. They waited on the renovation, because the Rams had to play one season there prior to the TWA Dome being completed. Once renovated it was widely considered the best of the multi sport stadiums for baseball.

    • @joshuakline1435
      @joshuakline1435 Před 11 měsíci

      Fun Fact: Busch Stadium was planning a return to a grass field in 1995 but was delayed a year, so the Rams can play at Busch while the TWA Dome was being built.

    Before the renovations at Hardrock Stadium it did look exactly like the same shape as the Silverdome except the Silverdome had 3 decks instead of 2.

    You gotta remember Riverfront/Cinergy tried to make something out of nothing. And while it wasn’t great, it was better then playing somewhere else for a year while GABP was bei bf built.

    Miami was not built as multipurpose, it was football only stadium. The managed to squeeze baseball in later.

    Hard Rock stadium also had the entire lower stands along the sidelines torn down and rebuilt closer to the sidelines, it use to be 90 feet from the sidelines I think it is 50 feet from the sidelines now

    The only reason that the Metrodome never had the natural light roof installed in the 2000s would have to be due to both the Twins and the Vikings playing there. Wouldn't put it in doubt that the Twins players would have complained about the sunlight in the same manner Astros players complained about the light coming into the Astrodome. Had the Metrodome underwent the necessary renovations in 2010 (after the Twins moved to Targét Field) to a football-only facility, of which would have included the clear plastic "blimp roof", the stadium would have allowed the Vikings to remain there for at least another 10-15 years before a newer facility (along the lines of US Bank Stadium) would have been built.

    Busch II was, in my opinion, a better place to watch a ballgame than Busch III after the remodel. If you were going to replace Busch II, Busch III needed to be more impressive than it is. Look at the layout. It's their AAA ballpark in Memphis with an upper deck. Not that impressive when compared to other newer ballparks, or even ballparks of its era.
    Also, the picture of Busch II that pops up at 2:03 is not an actual photo of the ballpark. It's a rendering of a proposed remodel from the mid-80's. The stadium never had enormous open columns in center field. That would have looked awful.

  • @briancalifornia1
    @briancalifornia1 Před 11 měsíci +2

    Riverfront Stadium Cinergy Field wasn't really a renovation they had to take those upper deck outfield seating since it was in the foot print of the new Stadium thats not a renovation.

    Busch Stadium, Veterans Stadium and Riverfront Stadium all switched away from the hazardous artificial turf to God's glorious green grass in the early 21st Century. All three would eventually move into impressively new stadiums.
