And at the very end, when the few survivors are making their last stand, begging for a miracle before throwing their lives into the fire, they'll surrender and pretend everything's OK.

@@Lucius_Chiaraviglio Correction, the humans opened fire after the minbari approached with their gun ports open and disabled most of their systems with an invasive scan. Their own leader realized this was a stupid move. And even if the human ship was 1,000% in the wrong, that doesn't change the fact that the minbari were genocidal maniacs fighting to exterminate humanity till their religious mcguffin said human souls were holy. They were also petty, sore losers who were all to happy exterminating a technologically inferior species till one of them destroyed one of their ships in an unsporting manner. **ONE SHIP** in a war where the minbari were doing surprise attacks fleets that couldn't fight back, destroying every ship with practically no losses of their own and leaving no survivors. I want to reiterate that: The minbari warrior cast had a burning, seething hatred for Sheridan because he destroyed the only capital ship they lost in the entire war and they hated the religious caste for stopping their merry genocidal killing spree.

The Hokey Pokey is a ritual of solidarity. The simple motions, set to a beat and clearly defined by the song, make it easy for anyone to participate in contrast to other dances that you have to know before you start. The eponymous Hokey Pokey is the only part that is completely undefined, and this is for good reason; It serves as a moment where you break from the pack and do your own thing, before returning to the fold by 'turning yourself around'. This moment of individuality strengthens the group by affirming that it is made of many singular minds with their own perspective.
So, that's what it's all about.

Mira Furlan would doubtless have left the show had they continued with that makeup. It was simply too time consuming to put on, and then the actor couldn't hear because of the foam rubber prosthetic over their real ears. Bill Mumy had the same problem, but he admits in an interview that he only tolerated it because Lenier was a supporting character, and had far more limited screen time, so he could go days at a time without being needed on set. As a main character, it would have been a lot more demanding for Mira Furlan to put up with. Andreas Katsulas probably had it as bad, but fortunately for us, he endured it.

ENcounter suit. Had to; inner nerd wouldn't shaddap about it...It would be pretty funny to see if they can do it without falling over. Those things look bulky. xD
Anyways, I think it would be even more amusing for a young human to be teaching Mollari about how the song works:
Adolescent: "See, it helps us to figure out which is the left hand and foot, and which is the right hand and foot. Helps us to remember what the body part's name is too. So yeah, it does make sense, just not in the way you would think it does."
Molllari: "Do you not have books for zat sort of ting?"
Adolescent: "Yeah, but this is less boring."
Mollari: "Ah, I see! So it is education put into a more entertaining form."
Adolescent: "Pretty much. Just don't tell the smaller kids. You'll ruin it for them."

I remember seeing a theory where the origin of the "Hokey pokey" came from Ireland's criticism against the Catholic church. Mocking the priests that put one hand over something to bless it, take it out, wash their hands in holy water and sprinkle baptisms. Then turning away from the congregation to pray and turning back around. And then reading from the bible in latin which not many people could understand at the time. A lot of them would refer to the Catholic Church rituals as a bunch of "hocus pocus" or to avoid getting in trouble "hokey pokey". I could see them singing this this bars and kids picking it up.

One of my favorite of this kind is after Garibaldi disappears and G'Kar and Zack Allan get in his room. G'Kar sees a Daffy Duck poster.
G'KAR: I was studying this picture. Is that one of his Gods?
ZACK: That's Daff... Well, uh... in a way, it is. Let's say it's the egyptian god of Frustration.
      G'KAR: Hahaha! Most appropriate!
