  • Kileleshwa has over the years been predominantly known as a suburb for the rich who mostly prefer stand-alone houses for privacy: With the emergence of flats and apartments, the rich now prefer to invest in other leafy suburbs.

Kileleshwa is no longer a neighborhood for the “rich”. It is mostly a middle class neighborhood. But it needs to be cleaned up and jua kali dukas removed. It is missing a large shopping center for the dramatically increased population. The worst thing about the new kileleshwa and places like that, is the quick decent into ghettos if not seriously managed. This is a classic African problem. The most important thing about development is post development maintenance.

This is so true. Unfortunately these high rise apartments will slowly convert the estate to what we call "vertical slums". Imagine how many people one such apartment can hold, and you know the "rich " don't fancy crowded places
