In Brazil we got the Chevrolet Kadett with a GSI version, white with a black rear end, recaro seats, hood scoops, so cool!
Was a amazing car. In Spain it was the most stolen car in the 90s
Yes but is a kadett no astra
Your videos are always a delight to watch, keep up the great restorations. And enjoy that extra time for yourself, you deserve it.
Sir, you don't know how relaxing is for me hearing the hot water pouring in the jar and then the caustic soda falling onto the water. It's just pure magic. I wait to ser this videos with my son and then get to the water part. Greetings from Chile!
Worked in a local Vauxhall garage in 1987 and an Astra like yours in the showroom. Also went for a ride in a Cavalier SRi with a few of the machanics which was quick. At the same they sold the Opel Manta GTE which a great car.Near me somebody had a Chevette 2300HS which is now rare.Other cars people owned I knew were a 1975 Viva,1978 Victor and a Lotus Carlton 3000.I remember hot versions of the Nova too.Great model Rob.
Hi Rob,yes it does look nice with the wheels and the paint.excellent model and I remember these back in the day.
Wonderful restoration! The owner will be truly amazed at your work.
Beautiful job of restoring, Rob! Love the color and detail!! 👍👍👍
B269OLB MY FIRST MK2 1.8 GTE
Cool car . I believe that it still on the road .!!
Great job Rob,like the paint job. Good choice of wheels, great detailing. 👍
I thought about seed beads to replace the spacers.
Thanks Rob for your time and entertainment you provide.
Many thanks,
Fernando Castro
Excellent choices in this model! The details, the wheels, the finished colour . . . all brilliant! Thanks as always for sharing!
What a great looking model! We didn't get the Astra in the across the pond, but I wish we had; I might be more a Chevy fan than a VW weirdo, had that been the case. Fabulous results, Rob!!
Wow ,it looks very nice. Colour and wheels are perfect for this car. Well done :-)
Another top resto. Hatchback Astras were Kadetts in SA up to 1999, with the Opel badging, built locally through GM later Delta Corp. GSE Kadetts morphed into GSI aka 'The Super Boss' for Touring Car Racing (Production car racing in SA) Monzas were Kadetts with a boot, I seem to remember.
Awesome restoration/customization as usual. And yes, I know its been said before but in the United States we got this as the Pontiac LeMans, resurrecting a name that was put out to pasture a long time being adopted to the Vauxhall platform. We got this three door hatch, and a four door sedan as well. Unfortunately the name did not live up to it's predecessor from the 70's muscle car it once was.
Hopefully the Holden Monaro V8, sold as the GTO did.
Holden Astra 3 door hatch in Australia, Awesome builds look super cool love it cheers KC Tasmania Australia
That's an cool colour for the GTE Rob. Glad you did the inside door trims, don't think I've seen anybody else do that before but it's added details like that that make customs for me. Now let's see you do a dashboard ha! ha!
Now that has come out bloody perfect... looks so good matey! 👌
Mate that is saucy! Proper Essex boy material
Awesome make over. The black suits it better. And the wheels really set it off.
As an aside, may i say i hope your fellow CZcams restorer Marty and his family, from Marty’s matchbox makeovers is OK with all the fires burning down in Oz.
Marty will be fine. He is not in an area which is on fire. Nor am I.
Here in Brazil, this car was called Chevrolet Kadett GSI...fantastic
These are getting rarer and rarer
Excellent job!! I like the color of this one!! Nice extra details on this custom as well!
Lovely! Most GTEs were the lower powered sub 120bhp version. Much rarer was the 16v 150bhp red top. My mate had one that exact colour and the interior was grey. I think the colour was called aubergine.
Actually the colour might be called almandine...
Yes rob.iv got one ov them mate.mines a police car thou.nice work mate👍
I used to race one of these threw country lanes with my friends as a teen, I had one and it was quick.! Had a digital dash and everything if I remember correctly
My dad had a beautiful one to with the digital, it was an aubergine colour. My favourite astra
Great looking car. Interior is awesome! Love the door panels. You should have had a door open on the turn table. Take care.
My first ever car I had was an 1987 Opel Kadett and this car remind me of that car.
I hope that this car brings joy to it's owner.
Christian he did a boss job on this!👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent videos!!!! This car is called a Opel Kadette 200is in my country
Beautiful work, mate.
Beautiful custom, one of my favourites!
Awesome restoration brother
Nice job Rob. Glad you figured out what was contaminating your paint. Not sure if you can get jewelry beads cheaply for wheel spacers but I know I've seen them used on diecast wheels before quite successfully
Good idea
Loved the wheels loved the lowered stance and the color matching of the inside of the doors.
Vauxhall astra muito parecido com o Chevrolet Kadett GSI fabricado no Brasil entre 1989a1996 ficou excelente mesmo a customização deste raro modelo Matchbox 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good choice for color. Well done 👍🏼
Sweet job looks great H303UTO my old metallic black one 2.0 16v
A cracking job as always, Rob. nice one m8.
Oh that came out nice, that went from paltry to perfect . He should be happy with that.
Top job, great colour.. Love it 👍👍
Nice job buddy looks great thanks for sharing buddy keep up the great work hope you had a great holidays and hope you have a great 2020😎👍🏻👍🏻
Great job - impressed with the number plate details, very nice.
It turned out really nice 👍👍😊
That came out pretty nice. The wheels definitely help make the car too. And gotta admit, street racing is pretty fun. Having a V8 pickup with 360whp, people definitely don't expect it
Looks awesome mate 👍
Very nice. We actually got a version of this in the U.S. it was a Pontiac LeMans built in Korea
Nice job , looks the business. It woukd be nice to see a Mk1 Astra GTE done like this. I'll have to try find a 1980 Toyota Celica ST Lift back for you to customise for me Rob , l used to own one in metallic black with a Webasto sunroof , it also had red steel wheels with bright rings and chrome centre cap , probably my most favourite car I've owned 😊👍
For the wheel spacers, I use the tubes that hold the ink inside biro pens once they’re empty.
Good idea
I believe there was a Pontiac Lemans version of this car here in the states...
Looks a lot like a Pontiac Lemans
They sold those in North America as a Pontiac, but without the diesel engine option. I actually liked the diesel, but it was really slow.
It was sold under a lot of names. It was indeed a Pontiac Lemans in the States
Have a look under Opel Kadett E in this link for all versions..
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Kadett
In Europe it is an Opel Kadett GSI
yes I had the 98 world cup version, gave it to this kid that drove a lemans at the time.
Very nice! wheels look great! final product looks just like the old Kadett GSI's the ones with a 2 litre twin cam engine were blisteringly fast aswell
You absolutely kill it with the former rally cars, with that and the Quattro awhile back. They just look so good. Can you please, please do the new Hotwheels Subaru 22B??
I really do like the final finished job and the new wheels set it of along with the detailing .....excellent Rob and i await your next project ...
Great job! - nice color
Great result!
Yay, I love this era of matchbox!
It looks great, I have often thought about the doors matching the interior, but never commented on it.
Nice work mate . It looks mint .
Another great Job. I had the same experience with the caustic over the weekend and had to do a couple of castings more than once. Going to check out the DIAL paint remover from B&Q as I hear good reports about it and it is a fairly good price, just checked out the Green World stuff and its currently discounted to 9.49Euros but is only 250mls so it would have to last ages to make it worth it as a bag of caustic is £10/Kg and lasts a long time.
I've used the dial stuff it's ok
@@paulmoore6345 Yes I bought some yesterday and have tried it out on a couple of castings. Best results seem to be leaving the casting to soak for a couple of hours or longer but it does a fantastic job. I now have a jar of Time RidersPprimordial Gloop on the work bench. It's actually got a Matchbox combined harvester body in it for an overnight soak, if it works on that it will work on anything as a lot of nooks and crannies for the remover to get into on that casting.
@@tonyhughes1958able I put it in a sealed plastic ice-cream box and it sweated nicely in it. I have had good results doing it like that and leaving it
@@paulmoore6345 Casting removed from the gloop and 98% of the paint is gone a little fetling with a wire brush and the rest should be history. All is good with the world. And my over night soak of the plastics in my thick bleach solution and the paint on them is gone without having to even brush them. Just rinsed in hot water and they are like new.
@@tonyhughes1958able that's great pleased it's worked out. I am waiting on a wire brush attachment to finish mine. Funnily enough 2 astras are in the batch
That’s a sharp looking car
Top work rob.👍
Great work !
You should sand your car or polish a little bit, this avoid chips on the final job and helps to have more shine at the finish. My opinion is that you should let dry closed with a flask with lid for at least 12h to avoid dust and you will see better results.📍
Very nice color
👍 love that color.
I have the rally car and police car versions of the Astra but I never got the red one because they wanted 3 dollars for it and it was beyond repair. Great video btw, keep up the great work
Nice job. I like the wheels
Hi another great restoration plus/ custom. The costic soda in my experience is ok to use for the door retainers.
Great job. Beautiful result. Congrats||||
Nice turn out! No harm in choosing your well-being sleep over CZcams, don’t blame you there haha!
Excellent work rob it looks the mutts nuts .
I remember seeing an original in this colour in the 90s. Such a strong colour on a GTE. It looked fast even when it was parked up.
Awesome dude🔥 respect from Serbia❤
Looks great!
I use as spacers those thick copper electric wires I remove the copper from inside the sleeve and I use the sleeve as spacer
I was never a fan of the real car but your referb is excellent....top resto
syringes tend to have a silicone based lubricant so they push / pull smoothly, so if you are buying generic sterile syringes ( which most are ) ...
You can get styrene tube any internal/external diameter to use as wheel spacers. A pack would last you years - and it has other modelling applications.
Good idea
The most consistent, I've found, in terms of quality of the plastic, over many years, are those made by a company called 'Evergreen'. Not affiliated with them, but, over the years, must have used tons of their products. Not overly expensive, either. Which is nice.
Austin, at 'Diecast Resurrection' uses pipettes, and buys them in bulk. I think he says where from on one of his videos.
Your finished model? Very crisp indeed. Nice one.
Happy New Year Buddy!
Good looking car
Think theirs only 39 mk1s on the UK roads these days but mk2s not sure but I seen one last week seen it a few times done up like a rally car though but nice my wee brother had a mk 2 astra not gte I myself had the mk1 also not gte nice job Rob another fantastic video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great job
I would use the litlle red pipe from the product wd40 spray, i use it for exaust pipes and turbos ☺
I wonder if I can buy a batch of them
@@MatchboxGarage See if you can hit an auto shop where they use those cans. Every new can has a new straw, so there should be a few empty cans around with the straw still attached. You'll have to clean it, though.
looks great
Nice one Rob.....
i have one of these toys. its mint. looking fresh!
Looking great here! I used to work at an Opel garage in early 90's when those cars were new. The colour was I think, called "Aubergine", the fourth in a line of "Mineral-Effect" paints (they started with red, green and blue). Too bad that effect doesn't work really in small scale; I tried it once.
You could also order leather interior with Kadett GSI, Vectra, and Omega. Conolly-leather, even! But I always thought it smelled odd..
Very nice!
Nice color
great job
Out here in SA they were sold under the name Opel Kadett. We had boss and a super boss version. Well done looks awesome as usual.
Wow didn’t even know a GTE One still existed. Used to love my red one with the digital dashboard. Had an SRI too, happy days. Nice job btw!!
Great job..
Max power called, they want their Astra back!
The empty ends of ball pen charges work quite good as spacers, no need to cut the axel. Cut them to size, cut them open and force them in, or use really fine zip ties.
Wow very nice
Nice build, i did made a different version of the same car.
Another great job, Rob! Nice choice of car and results! Regarding a spacer, have you considered Evergreen brand or Plastruct brand styrene tube in the proper diameter? Those are US brands that I think may be avilable in the UK at a hobby shop, but I believe Slaters also make the same product. Maybe that can help you situation.
Looks good, love that colour and wheels.
Cousin had one of these (Opel Kadett GSI) in red at early 90's that was cool and good looking car.
Always liked the look of these cars 😀
Shame there isn't many of those cars anymore because boyracers and rust... ☹️
Great job Rob once again I can’t wait to receive my zodiac in the post as well 👍
