MY MOMS FAVORITE CAKE/OLD SCHOOL PLAIN VANILLA POUND CAKE/FRIDAY NIGHT CAKE OF THE WEEK SEGMENT

- OLD SCHOOL VANILLA POUND CAKE
This is the best and actually most simple and easy pound cake that u can make
It doesn't have any baking powder or baking soda to make it ride
It requires you to whip it long and properly to achieve that perfect height
RECIPE:
4 Cups all purpose or cake flour
3 Cups granulated Sugar
4 Sticks Butter (Room Temperature)
6 Large Eggs (Room Temperature)
3/4 C Milk (Room Temperature)
1/2 Tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract
1 Tsp. butter Extract
DIRECTIONS:
Cream butter and sugar together with whip attachment until creamy and airy(about 7-8 minutes)
Add egg to mixture one at a time
Add flavors
Add flour and milk alternating (starting with flour ending with flour)
pour in flour/greased tube cake pan
cook for 1 hour 15 minutes at 300 degrees(check cake after 1 hour to make sure its not done already,every oven is different)

My grandson and I made a pound cake two weeks ago and we were in heaven eating it. My mom used to make hers without any frosting too; however, my grandson insisted on having vanilla ice cream to go with it.😂 I don't make pound cakes often because I'm diabetic, but whenever I do it still takes me back to a kid with my mom making them.🙏🏾 Chef Jeffrey, you said you like your cake cold. How about eating cold fried chicken and pound cake together? Whenever we would go visit our family down south, my mother would fry up a bunch of chicken and bake a pound cake the night before. We would eat that on the road, so we didn't have to stop at a diner or some restaurant on the way. Talk about some good eatin'😋
Yes! My mother would do same thing! It would be in a shoe box for us!
There's a diabetic sweetener that my mom used to bake with in the 80's but I can't think of the name. One of my older brother's told my mom about it, but I can't find it now. It was a liquid, and your desserts tasted like regular cakes, pies, etc.
I have to watch my sugar intake now too, because I'm diabetic too. I will keep going to different stores to check to see do they sell a liquid kind. I wish that I could think of the name of it.
@@dharmon8798 it maybe either Sweet n' low, or Nutrasweet (Equal). Unfortunately you still have to be careful with consumption, because carbs still turn into sugar even though you eliminate added sugar. I've been a diabetic since 1986(juvenile diabetes). Thank you for the tip though. I think you can play with the recipe using almond flour, or something else other than traditional flour.

I lost my father as about three years 😔 ago and pound cake was my father's favorite cake. That really brought back memories and the cake would be in that cake plate just like you was talking about. I love this so much! I lost my dad 15 years ago. Still , every year on his birthday I bake one of his favorites in his memory 🎂. His mother always had a delicious vanilla poundcake on the counter. Looks delicious chef.

That is a beautiful poundcake! Looks just like my Grandmom's! I love a slice of that toasted in the morning with a topping of homemade applesauce- you know, the kind made from those tart old country apples, not the sweet kind.
Since I got into baking, the first from scratch pound cake I ever made was a cream cheese pound cake & is still one of my top faves. Also Kentucky Butter cake, & Millionaire pound cake.

That batter is so soft and fluffy I wish I could lick the spoon… It’s so interesting that this cake bakes so long at such a low temperature it’s almost like a French sponge cake recipe so creamy what a beautiful batter I wish we had an ATB in Colorado! i’ve been looking for butter flavoring and can’t find it. My mom was from South Carolina & she did everything from scratch. Cake was done with "Prestone" flour mix (no box cake in her house). I don't like fancy cakes because I grew up with her sheet cakes to make for our birthdays & holidays...just chocolate frosting was an extra & ice cream. Pies, the table was cleared to make her crust...rolling pin was older than me (I have it still & her cast iron pans-restored them). I do miss her & when my eldest sister comes in, she cooks/bakes up just like Momma did.

Yum! Love it. Butter pound cake was the first type of cake we were taught to make as children.
I still have my mother's ancient Hobart electric mixer, KitchenAid's predecessor brand. I have a modern machine, but the old Hobart still runs well with its all-purpose whisk plus tempered glass and metal bowls.
One of the premium commercial desserts where we live was a fabulous pound cake sold by the lunchroom of a historic department store.
A slice of it was topped by a great hot fudge sundae. It's still one of my favorites. The rich sauce on high quality vanilla ice cream has to be very hot, thick and dark.
Another favorite is Devil's Food cake topped by rich chocolate fudge frosting, hot fudge sauce and whipped cream.
As easy as they are, today's lousy restaurants can't make either one properly for $10.00+ per slice. They have to be done at home.

You brought back lots of great memories here especially with the butter and vanilla extracts! Mine used to do the lemon too sometimes.
