Actually what happened was they took the tamest of wolves and began to force breed them. Those wolves would produce more tame offspring and they continued to do that until they got what they wanted. Basically they bred the wild out of them. However the opposite effect can occur if you breed the more savage wolves. They also discovered that if you continued to breed them their physical attributes changed. They began having different color fur, maybe floppy ears, curly tails.
