  • This piece, which I called “Splash”, is a conceptual representation of the moment after a stone is thrown and hits a glassy body of water. It is for a regional art exhibit called OneTree, hosted by Live Edge Design and The Robert Bateman Center. It runs from November 16th 2019 - February 29th 2020 and celebrates the life and value of a single tree by inviting participating artists to create as much beauty from its wood as possible. I am fortunate to be one of the artists who has been entrusted to prolong the life of this 200+ year old Maple through art. I filmed the entire build as a way of honoring the process, as well as the finished piece, and in doing so, created more “art”. I’m really happy with how this modern wooden wall art turned out. That’s an impressive slab! The grain is insane! I like the choice of bow tie too.

      Isn't it crazy? I was very fortunate to be included in this exhibition and so lucky to have gotten such a remarkable slab to work with. I was very happy that the spalted bow tie worked out for me as the grain was very soft and brittle. A lot can be said for sharp tools. Thanks for watching!

    I so despise music on these videos... I would rather hear the scratching of the pencil than that stupid repetitive waste of energy.

    Beautiful piece
    But I must ask doesn’t that combination of wood finish, cause yellowing over time?

    • @zumkellerwoodshop4224
      @zumkellerwoodshop4224  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes it does. Any oil will yellow over time but how much you notice it depends on the wood it was originally applied to. It's been several years hanging on the wall and still looks like the day it was made. I think that's in part to the crazy grain pattern of this piece. Thanks for watching the videos! I really do appreciate it.
