- My Morning Jacket was formed by a group of childhood friends from Louisville, Kentucky. They’ve been making music together for decades - and nearly called it quits. But then they produced a new self-titled album and reclaimed what Rolling Stone calls "their mantle as retro-rocks top mystics." Anthony Mason spoke with the group about their journey to success.

Saw that American dad episode when I was like 13 and I thought they were a fake band for the show lol boy I was wrong! Have all their vinyls now, huge fan of MMJ and Jim James, and I saw them on their comeback tour in 2022 in Austin it was so good! One of my fav bands

I'm not a huge fan of the most recent album... 'Z' was fantastic, as was 'It Still Moves' and 'Evil Urges'. BUT the new one... quite monotonous in my opinion. Nonetheless, I would much rather listen to this MMJ than +90% of the "popular" music that's released these days! 🤘🏼
Be open minded friend. Yes the new album sounds different but it is still amazing in so many ways.
@tamie341 not sure what about my comment was close-minded, as I compared 4 albums to each other in a brief, offhand post, but I will definitely aspire to be more open minded when comparing the numerous variations involving an album's multiple artistic complexities next time! 😁😉
@PanicMose M 😄 it isn't that good of an album. Penny for your thoughts is a classic though, love that song. In Color is pretty good despite the aching liberal platitudes 😄
There’s some “newer” MMJ albums that definitely stack up with their older work such as The Waterfall… that album is fantastic!
Calling MMJ “retro-rock” is like calling Pink Floyd hip hop. There’s nothing retro about them.

Check them out. They're one of the best rock n roll groups of recent generations. Extremely talented, write all their own songs and actually play the instruments. Definitely underrated and under appreciated unfortunately though...

They are best of the generation. Listen to songs from different albums cuz they are so diverse
internet gives us a way to find new music easily, you just have to look for it, and give them a chance.
They're a band a lot of people wish they could get into for the first time again
