John Donn certainly had an interesting arc in his catalog of verse...and I suspect in his personal life as well. "Thou hast made me, and shall thy work decay?" is a fantastic title. Donne's pleadings are actually very clever. It seems he is saying; my body is in decay and I sadly except that is inevitable. Yet, God, since you made me you hold some degree of responsibility for the decay of my soul...."help a guy out God, please?"
As you say Polina, this sonnet displays Donn's uncertainty and the emotions touched me. In this work Donn is sad, he is scared but he is struggling hard to be hopeful.

Yes, I absolutely agree that the Holy Sonnets are very touching! They are so deeply personal, yet so clever, I think it is still very like John Donne, just in a different type of way, it shows his maturity.
