I spent about a week in Najaf ( more on that to come)
This is my visit to the worlds largest graveyard! i wish i had been able to bring my drone on this trip as you just cant see the magnitude in size of this place! It is Massive!!! Although online sources say 5 million locals say it’s closer to 8 million people here!
Najaf is one of the holiest cities in Iraq so covering up for a woman is a must do, i didn't have to wear the hijab, but i had it on anyway, a scarf wouldv'e been fine.
i had never heard of this place until i started researching the area, and again good old Atlas Obscura gave me the idea also! i think there is a higher point where you can see the whole place, but we didn't find it. i was with Maram, Karar and Hassam from the English school. The history here is amazing and also a very sad place , especially as the have large photos of those that are buried here, the childrens photos were hard to see, and so many also.
worth a look though if your ever in najaf...
