  • In October 2022, Justice Sonia Sotomayor questioned lawyers during oral arguments in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. University Of North Carolina and Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College. On June 29, 2023, six Supreme Court justices struck down affirmative action in college admissions.

      Exactly, if we are equal then being black should not give you special privilege to get into schools or receiving jobs you may not be qualified for. The issues of lack of representation isn't due to racism, but a lack of priorities within black culture. If you see the riots, thievery encouragement of gang and violence in rap culture towards younger generations what they appeal to isn't what is right. So this shouldn't be a surprise that because they tend not to move into certain jobs or schools and that only 16% of the population are black that you'd see a smaller percentage in comparison to whites.

    I am confused. Is race based admission just part of a small holistic approach, in Which case getting rid of it should have little impact, or does it have a major impact on the college admissions of non whites and Asians, in which case race is absolutely the determining factor? What is it because it can't be both.

    What nation is this one from? Breaking our necks with her dirty boot? Maybe we should get rid of this court and have a People's Court. Yes, then we'd not be mentally insane as we see it's turned all of those with too much power.

    Box checker Soto turned on exam passing firefighters because blaq firefighters failed an exam. Soto's lower court decision was overturned by the very court she now sits on.

    well if race is such a "small factor" in the decision of whether or not a student should be admitted to college, then how come there would be such a dramatic drop (according to Sonia Sotomayor) in minority students being admitted? Shouldn't there only be a slight drop since there are "plenty of other factors" that determine whether or not a student gets in?
    I really don't understand people who think affirmative action isn't racial discrimination. Minorities won't have less of a chance to get in without affirmative action, they'll have the same chance as everyone else. I feel like this is something people just don't understand.

      To attempt to steel man them, I don't think that they do think that. It is undeniable that it is. The best I can see is that they acknowledge (albeit tacitly and unstated) it as racial discrimination, but that it is ok and desirable they way they practice it.

    Sotomayor asks, *"So there is a high price to pay by Banning the minor use of race in college admissions."
    The proper response would be, how should I (and you) define *'high price'* and 'minor use of race'.
    If you knew and loved victims of such racism would you attempt to comfort them by telling them that their being an actual victim of racism is a minor price?
