Installing the Precision Add A Grapple

  • If you've been wanting a grapple, this is the most economical way to get one...the Add-A-Grapple, built by Precision Manufacturing in Sedalia, Missouri.
    The Add-A-Grapple is a unique design, utilizing a frame that mounts on top of the bucket to mount one or two grapples. All it takes is drilling four bolts in each side of the bucket and putting bolts in and you have a grapple. With a single Add-A-Grapple, you have to add the hoses and connections, with a Double Add-A-Grapple the plumbing comes with the attachment.
    It helps to have two people to position the Add-A-Grapple just where you want it. Thanks to my buddy Jim for helping me position it. You want the teeth of the grapple to be about 1" inside the bucket and just touching the surface. It helps greatly to have a way to keep the grapple up in the air while you're positioning it. I used my pallet forks, a hoist would work, if you were wanting to lift it by hand, better get three or four people...with strong backs.
    Drilling holes in a bucket was easier than I thought it would be. I went to Lowe's and bought new 3/16" and 1/2" bits, then drilled a small "pilot hole" followed by the bigger hole and that seemed to work well. If you're good with a torch you could probably make the holes that way, but I'm anal enough I don't like the jagged holes.
    With the single Add-A-Grapple, I had to go to the local farm and home store and get a couple of 3/8" NPT hydraulic hoses and flat faced couplers (although pioneer style would work). Now that I have it installed, the next video will show it in action.
    You can order the Add-A-Grapple here: asktractormike..., you must have a remote hydraulic connection at the front of the tractor to make it work. It's a great tool for someone who has a pin-on bucket or wants to have a grapple available on a budget. Leave it on your bucket and you can move a lot of stuff around and never leave the tractor seat.

    Wow. This could be the answer to my dilemma. Need a grapple occasionally but my Kubota does not have a quick release attachment for my bucket. I look forward to learning more about this attachment. Thanks for sharing.

    I like the idea of an Add-A-Grapple. Can't wait to see you put it to work.

    How about making a video on installing the hydraulics to the 3rd function control of tractor to the cylinder on grapple ? That would be very helpful for everybody installing this. Thx

    You skipped right to an already clamped grapple. I wished you would have shown the measuring and wood spacers and clamping. That is the part I am at, trying to do by myself and struggling with figuring out how high to mount the cross bar. Also, how do you extend the cylinder without being hooked to hydraulics? i unhooked the cylinder since I don't have hoses yet and everything too loose. Basically it looks like you skipped over the toughest part of install.

    No lock nuts or washer? I'd use a little blue Loctite (or equivalent) on those bolts to keep them tight.

    I’ve been interested in these grapples I have TLB it’s similar to the terramite of you heard of those. It’s pretty powerful but I’ve been wondering if a 3rd function kit would work, I’m fairly confident it would because to have a grapple would be useful on my property.

    Hi Tractor Mike! You said to align the teeth of the grapple about an inch inside the bucket. Could it be installed so the teeth are just outside? Maybe so they have a bit of an overbite and drop below the cutting edge?
    I was thinking that might help grab things that are flat to the ground, but there might be a good reason they said to align it inside of the bucket.
    I'm not far from Sedalia, do they allow local pickup? I priced one on your site, but $215 to ship it, yeesh!

      @TractorMike  Před 4 lety

      I'm not completely sure the angle of the grapple will allow the teeth sticking out past the bucket. I think that would depend on your bucket. There are literally thousands of different loader bucket designs so it would be difficult to predict. I guess if you moved the whole thing forward and maybe tilted it down it would work. Gonna have to think about that for a while, I'd bet it could be done. On the pick up...absolutely! I can do a manual invoice and then you can pick it up at the factory. Just e-mail me at mike@asktractormike.com which model you want with your name, address and phone, and I'll shoot you an invoice and help coordinate pick up. The guys at Sedalia are super easy to work with and they can drop an Add-A-Grapple in the back of your truck and get you on the way in no time. I apologize for the high freight. I've noticed that if you're close to the origin the rates are higher than they should be and if further away, they can be cheaper than expected. Don't have a clue why that is, and have no control over it.

    I have a couple questions. Can you still reach your chain hooks and use them on top of the bucket? If you didn't have chain hooks should you mount the grapple frame lower to the bucket?

    • @TractorMike
      @TractorMike  Před 4 lety

      It gets a little tight. If I had it to do over I would have mounted two, instead of three, hooks and would have placed them halfway between the center and the ends of the bucket. Then you can have your hooks and the Add-A-Grapple at the same time. Truth be known, I almost never use those hooks. Most everyone else uses them all the time, but if I have something to lift the pallet forks are the tool of choice.

    Pretty much a waste of money. How you gonna pick stuff up when the grapples are inside the bucket and the sides of the bucket stick out past the grapples. Grapple buckets dont have sides for a reason.
