  • We can absolutely curb some of the effects these units are doing and still have them be super strong and competitive. Take more time to playtest units and passives before releasing them.

    The problem with slowing down Powercreep is that we literally give IS reasons not do it, whenever there's a banner that doesn't push Powercreep in a ridiculous way, it just flops
    And we just stay in this loop of:
    IS releases something broken: we complain about it but pull anyways
    IS releases something more tame: it flops
    And then just sends the message that IS needs to release more broken stuff
    And it restarts the loop

    • @superbuneary8819
      @superbuneary8819 Před 6 dny +6

      That literally means it's just the player base's fault. Like wtf, if it flops it's because the players themselves doesn't spin on it, unless it's their faves. So what else are they supposed to do? They need to make money to run our fave autistic game, not to mention part of it is invested for new mainline fire emblem games to have high quality. I think the solution is keep up the powercreep but have most of the powercreep be inheritable skills, that way old invested units can keep up, there are still incentive to pull, no one's getting left behind and people who want to use their faves can still use them and still be relevant in the meta. Both sides are happy.

    • @superbuneary8819
      @superbuneary8819 Před 6 dny +4

      In fact I would think they'd make much more if they make broken inheritable skills. Because people would want multiple copies of them for all their faves, unlike just pulling once for a broken unit. So yeah, powercreep inheritable skills would be better.

      @@superbuneary8819 Powercreep is not the playerbase's fault lol. If they keep overtuning Units, they are setting themselves for future flops and to make it harder to succeed. A more healthy approach would be to have newer Units occupy new niches, old niches but in an archetype that wasn't there before, unlock new gamebuilding options, etc.
      Like last year the introduction of melt damage was interesting, the flametiles hindering movement was strategically interesting, but it very quickly ramp from 7 to 14 to 20s to all your HP bar which made it toxic to deal with. It also invalidated a lot of previous features. There are other examples like the evolution of pierceable-DR, piercing DR and flat DR.

      @@ACLozMusik I get your sentiment, but tbh you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect a live service gacha game to feel like a true equal opportunity, fun game for all players type experience. Your expectations are too high, they'll never do a healthy approach like that, simply cuz they never did in the first place, it's a game made mainly for monetization, that's why it's still running. The best thing to do if you're F2P is just go with the flow and work with what you have and what youre able to aim for.

      @@superbuneary8819 I mean, the game has many years and some of the points discussed here are relatively new.
      The overcomplicated wep/skills descriptions, how effects that before involved 3-4 skills are now compacted under a single wep/skill, etc.
      The 3H summer banner 2 years ago was a fairly hypped banner. I just checked the units some days ago and the texts are simple, 3-4 effects easy to understand and the units were also powerful. If you compare that to now, the current state makes it less desirable to tactically engage with understanding the units.
      You seem to argue that "bad game design" = "revenue", or that "good design" = "too generous". We like the game, and we think it can be BETTER. That's the whole criticism about.

    We're also the problem here, the pandora box is already open and the excitement is only on broken units/skills as we label them as "must summon", while we easily dismiss as "skips" the non broken ones and the sales are proof of this, even popular characters like Azura flop if they're not on the same tier of the meta units or beyond.

    Most of the Grail units are good examples of powerful but fairly balanced units, and they should stick more with units like that. Like to break some of them down:
    Jeralt: Panic effect in his weapon, guaranteed follow-up to negate the bad speed, and good Atk/Def. Can be defeated by a good mage but he's still a worthwhile unit.
    Yen'fay: Bonkers Atk/Spd for a grail unit, built in Distant Counter and Spd damage reduction. He has issues taking on bulky units so he can be stopped.
    Mauvier: Amazing support capabilities for a lance unit. Great Atk/Def/Res who can double as a distant counter attacker.
    More units like this, less units like the bullshit that we've been seeing in recent summoning.

    Idk why they felt the need to over-tune Micaiah (or some units in general now). Like i like it when your attacking unit also doubles up as some form of support (Hrid, Mauvier,etc) but Micaiah REALLY went too far with all of her utility. Like Letting her cleanse Debuffs on your team was so dumb (should have left it for herself) as it invalidates her PRF Assist skill she came with (to an extent). She DID NOT need Mega-Guidance built in her weapon. The only reason they did was because they wanted her original Attuned Skill to be ran, and didn't want people to remove Crux....here's the thing IS....stop letting units run EVERYTHING. God forbid a single flier on your team can't warp your entire team around. Like at least it would have made you bring another Guidance unit besides her.
    Like obviously I expected her to be better than Duo Micaiah after her refine....but straight up Attuned T-poses over Duo (only thing Duo has over her is that she technically scores better and the Duo Button) with providing even more debuffs than her Duo threw out.
    Like really they didn't need to give her ALL of that.

    • @a-j-o-l-o-t-3
      @a-j-o-l-o-t-3 Před 5 dny +1

      That is true. If a flier can't run any of the guidance, is considered bad. Look Loki, Who is insane debuffer and people were saying that, She is not good enough because you can not tun Guidance 4 or Soren Guidance on her...
      Same with Hinoka or other units like that.
      Is really sad and I never expected Micaiah being so good that people would consider her as toxic.

    I'd like to suggest, powercreep on legendary units I think is actually fine - they have to either strong enough to keep up with a lot of nukes or tanks in arena, or have staying power. And it's way more likely that someone will have copies of a few as opposed to a seasonal. Though, this is probably debatable because we have been getting more rearmed/attuned reruns lately.
    At first I joked about L!MCorrin being on backlog and they finally decided to release him, but that seems plausible with how underpowered he is, L!FAlear is oddly a much better pick.

    1. Extra mobility, people have been replacing the cow with whatever provides warping, now is the turn for attuned Micaiah.
    2. Canto, AoE and that is what’s Thor has been plus utility.
    I would say Ike is our current raid boss and his lack of counters reminds me of what was Lucia on release or Altima when she just received her refine.
    I would say that the problem isn’t the fast paced power creep, but rather they not giving out enough orbs to compensate, like wtf with their constant 3 orbs for celebrations. Like right now it feels super punishing to pull because they don’t give out enough resources to compensate, either to update the build or pull for the new unit.

    The problem with powercreep is that because this game focuses on PvP, it forces players to summon the newest unit to compete or else they will be outclassed. If there was enough PvE content, then the powercreep would be okay cause it won't gatekeep F2P players. It is unlikely that IS will slow down the powercreep in this game so I think the best way to deal with powercreep is to direct the units for other uses (mainly PvE) than the PvP game modes so if people want the best units to have an easier time in the PvE game modes then they can go for it and F2P players can use their favorite units instead of getting demolished by the newest unit.

    I agree that the power creep and skill creep and sometimes even stat creep is ridiculous but I kinda feel it’s a lost case already, cause they have gone to far imo to really stop it, neither I think they want that in the first place.
    Cause I mean, even with Summer Hríd who is really interesting, kinda brings something new and somewhat unique… I heard a good amount of FEHtuber or players say „He is a decent unit, but I don’t think he will change the meta/will have impact on the meta.“ or „He/His effect would be really strong if it was released in year ago, nowadays idk.“ or „His effect is kinda neat, but Hríd as a unit is not very impressive.“ etc.
    Personally I agree with you on Hríd or Lucia - they brought something new but nothing broken, they also weren’t bringing 100 things at the same time, but one really good and unique thing but while Lucia still benefited from that on her Release, just how people argue about Hríd shows me that we probably have left this stage of the game and for many people that isn’t enough anymore to be „worth/relevant“.
    I think that Hits even harder with skills. While I think their was no need to pump up Micaiah, Ike or Duo Lyon like they actually did, I feel like with skills they kinda have to do, cause at least I feel like the arguments some people might say about certain units like Hríd are the same for skills but probably on an even larger level, cause I feel like the nuances for „Yeah decent/good but not enough/not necessary“ to „omg such a good skill“ are way smaller than for units, especially cause units also can be sold by „popular character that probably sells well enough“ which I don’t think is the case solely fore skills and so I feel like it have to be a little bit overtuned of a skill to intend players to explicitly summon for it.
    Also… Mythic Freyr? Iiiiiii don’t know man. I mean today with all the bs around? Sure. But considering his release time, he was everything but not good game design, cause he was just not like „make sth weaker“ but instead „shuts things down completely, first and foremost Elimine but also on a side effect basically most of debuffs in general“ and that as a time where outside of Elimine it was even a big op thing or such unlike nowadays where we have a billion of debuffs/debuff effect running around on a plethora of units an skills.

      @@andresfgp13 I mean yeah IS has no incentive to actually do anything about powercreep. It's pretty obvious ever since Fallen Edelgard that they aren't afraid of releasing a unit that hard counters like 500+ units all at once, all they have to do is give it a month before giving everyone the solution. It's just that certain skills in general are just really stupid; Breath of Life 4 as explained in the video is a great example. It doesn't _need_ to work on allies within 2 spaces - it's obviously a counter to pre-combat damage, so why does it have to work on allies too? It's because it's an easy way for IS to really encourage players into summoning on the banner. You don't need multiple copies to get the effect on your units, so why not summon and use your orbs? It's already a strong skill, but making it have that whole other paragraph makes it actually broken/overtuned. That's the main issue here really, same goes for units themselves
      Like, IS knows what they're doing here. They don't care obviously, they're getting all the money out of it. It's just annoying to see them do the same thing over and over lol

    I agree with basically everything in the video. But the point about Emblem Ike I can personally relate to so well. I remember when he came out and I thought man, he is overpowered but at least I have my Bridal Lilina that has very high res, an AoE special and ploy that is more or less a guaranteed counter to him everytime. Now I don't know what to do if the one thing good against Emblem Ike is thrown out of the window, Breath of Life 4 didn't need to give support to allies and it most definitely didn't have to mitigate Fatal Smoke in any way, sure nerf AoEs and pre-combat damage a bit, but don't also nerf the main selling point of Fatal Smoke. It's ridiculous!

    I hate picking OP heroes. I like taking older gen heroes and trying to make them competitive. The thing that bugs me the most about these overtuned heroes is that there is no strategy if you can't do any damage to them. It really puts you in a bad mood when you have decently strong heroes but none of them are strong enough to do any damage to the OP hero of the week. I know I do this to myself by handicapping myself with older generation heroes but the game isn't fun if you're steam rolling everything with one superman of a unit. I think we need more ways to balance out the older stuff. I love the heroes that you can give you a great weapon to share with other units. The attuned heroes are my favorite addition to the game in recent months because it allows you to take something old and give it a little bit of an edge to compete. Give us more stuff to balance out the old stuff please or do a complete overhaul of the older generation units to catch them up to the powercreep.

      About a year or two ago, the gap between meta units and non-meta units was not this large. You could 100% compete and in fact in some cases it was actually better to just build a non-meta unit if you were going to fully invest and +10 them as they would just have better stats at that point than an unmerged meta unit. Effect creep has snowballed so out of control now that stats don't mean as much.

  • @marcosmolares5910
    @marcosmolares5910 Před 6 dny +2

    Well if only they releaded units like the ones on the last summer banner, that are fun to use but not broken beyond redemption. And also kept it on the player phase oriented side it would be easier.
    The powercreep that I despise is the one that Pestblem Ike brings, an unkillable tank that is cheapness incarnate. From strong nukes you can run away and attack in player phase, but cheap garbage like Ike just puts you in a situation where you just cannot win since you need super specific counters (now even more with bol4), so you lose as soon as the match starts and are then penalised for it. Its infuriating.
    Whats worse, when broken unfair tanks are released, all the braindeads flock to stuff like Ike as flies to the dung and you start seeing all failed defense results wich are all identical to the other (cheapos smiting sh-Itke and relaxing while the game wins by itself with no effort)

    I don't mind powercreep so much, as its the way the game makes money. What they need to do, though, is give you easy(ish) access to second tier units/skills when they introduce new top tier things.
    The problem I have at the moment is that they drip-feed resources so slowly that it takes longer to save orbs for the new units than the use you get out of them. As an example, my ARD doesn't have any units from before Christmas: no one else even scratches EIke.
    PS. I do think Freya negating all debuffs is problematic, since it just flipped the meta overnight. (I got a +10 Elimine the month he came out, and that was a complete waste now.) Removing e.g. 2 debuffs like they did with Micaiah would have been fine.

    • @random__idiot
      @random__idiot Před 5 dny

      And that is very annoying as I spent a load of orbs getting units/skills specifically to help my ARD team in November. It went almost undefeated for 2 months, but now I've swapped out every unit. So why did I bother spending the orbs?
