    I'm not sure from the video if you noticed yet, but the stranger does start moving away from the sun. When the solar sails deploy it slowly gains speed and keeps accelerating. It is in a medium orbit at the start of the loop. At 18 minutes it is more than 50 km away from the sun. Dunno how time skip mods handle this.
    If you sit just outside the stranger you can see the sun exploding as a tiny dot. The view you see inside is greatly zoomed in by the screens that show space (which have RGB pixels if you get close).

    Lore question for the EOTE:
    (SPOILERS BELOW)
    We've seen that Prisoner was able to let the Eye emit it's signal for a little while, and that's when Nomai tech picked it up and they traveled to Hearthian solar system. Didn't Nomai say that the signal from the Eye was older than the universe itself?
    They were able to measure time so thoroughly that they noticed the difference between appearance and departure times when warping, but they somehow were mistaken about the Eye signal's age? Strangers can't be older than the universe!
    Is there any clue to what happens to the dam or the electricity on the Stranger and why it breaks?
    When you start the DLC you park your ship and get inside through a dark house and a raft inside of it, then plunge into the river to get an amazing view.
    Later, when you enter Stranger you land into another port. There is no house, just a boat on the shore you gotta push, and the landing room is conected to the supernova reach room via an elevator.
    Any reason for the port change? Only one seems visible from space.
    Any idea what happened to small (chick?) strangers? There were children on the paintings, yet no skeletons other that churches.

    • @AlexSCG
      @AlexSCG Před 2 lety +13

      No clue about the others but I can answer the third one. Notice how the first time you enter the Stranger you forcefully have to enter the side facing away from the sun since you have to visit the deep space satellite first? More likely than not, once you can mark the Stranger on the ship log you enter the way facing the sun every time. So basically, there are two ways of entering the Stranger: from the front and from the back. The entrance with the dark shack and all that is on the back. The entrance with the raft you need to push is on the front.

      @TheBoldwyn Před 2 lety +9

      For the signal I don't remember exactly, but I think the Nomai actually say that source of the signal is older than the Universe, not the signal itself.
      The light flickers when the Stranger detects the Sun is moving to Red Giant stage and deploys the solar sails. Once they deploy and the Stranger starts to move away the strain of acceleration seems to trigger the dam deterioration and it breaks some time after.
      Like AlexSCG mentioned you can enter the Stranger from two sides. It looks like a design choice, the first time (entrance away from the sun) you're dropped directly into a raft and steered to first group of buildings. There is also no shortcut to Hidden Gorge on that entrace and it is a bit different (second set of stairs before light-triggered airlock).
      Next time when you enter from the Sun side you have much more open area and more freedom to explore on your own.

      @AninoNiKugi Před 2 lety +4

      Yeah as mentioned, the Nomai thinks the Eye is older than the universe, not the signal.
      In regards to the 2 entrances, they're actuall great game design. Perhaps no practical reason in the game world but does their job very well. You'll most likely enter the Stranger from the dark side when you get there the first time. It's very dark since it's facing away from the sun. And because of that you'll most like use your flashlight which is needed to learn that light is needed to open the door. Then you get a raft in a dark room with no idea what the outside look. When you try to rotate the device, you'll feel panick when you drop and immediately see the surrounding in awe. Pretty cool feeling that the devs want you to feel. While the other entrance is for functionality and practicality. You get a shortcut and need the artifact house.

    I can throw in three more things:
    1. You also get a unique message for taking the core, then dying to enter the simulation.
    2. I have found that, in my experience, if you are in the simulation on an elevator, it reliably disappears when a supernova starts. This can cause further bugs.
    3. While pointlessly killing myself in the elevator shaft to the prisoner's fireplace, I respawned at the bottom of the river, and water no longer had an effect on me. I think it might be another at-the-same-time-as-an-event thing. Turns out the rapids is a gravity effect.

When taking the raft in the dream world, you eventually arrive at the outside of the prison section, where you can climb and watch inside and stuff, I put my artifact down and had the "night vision", and in the water surrounding the area I might have seen something resting on a rock, it was pretty far and I could'nt approach it more, but I'm pretty sure it was a cat or something (just like the turd in the roof achievement). If you look from the outside you obviously can't see in at all, so the idea that there are windows at all makes no sense. But if you get close to the glass, you can see it's made of flecks of red and blue and yellow, because it's a screen--capturing and displaying the image of the outside, probably by way of innumerable little cameras on the surface or some other kind of Owlk technology that scans and reproduces images.

    I guess it makes sense, since in all likelihood their engine is coded in such a manner that everything has to be somewhere in the solar system.
    Despite that, I didn't really notice any curvature at all in the dream world. It sells well the idea of that its a constructed reality, wholly different from the rest of the game's solar system.

    The sails being green screens is likely one of two possibilities. Either 1) the devs decided to show the Stranger being propelled by a (probably real but entirely theoretical) photon engine or 2) the Stranger passed a number of solar systems to get to the Outer Wilds and the sails change color to take advantage of the most emitted light frequency from the nearest star, which for a yellow star like in the Outer Wilds is green.

    @zefnoly9147 Před 2 lety +1

    Great video as always! I just want to point something out you may or may not know about the ringworld. (Spoiler alert obviously)
    Something I too noticed early on is that the ringworld has light casting shadows in directions that dont fit the directions of the sun. They also move depending on where you are but this may be more of a technical thing rather than what is supposed to happen.
    As you said the lamp in the middle of the big "window" (you will see why I put the "" later) is where the light comes from.
    The reasons for this is because the windows are not really windows. You are not seeing these windows from the outside. Just opaque metal. Not only that but you have likely noticed the windows have a weird frame pattern that has no structurally supportive design. And it is oddly seamless too without any thick beams visible or anything.
    The reason for this is because the windows inside. Actually are big 3D screens. You have likely noticed. Whenever you walk close to these particular windows, they have tiny RGB diodes.
    Not only that but outside the ship within the camuflage. You are unable to see past the camuflage shield. Except for the sun. The screens holographic screens inside allows them to see past this shield. And that is also one of the reasons you wont get a real shadow from the real sun. They likely used this to project the sky of their home while traveling in a way that was convincing too.
    Also it is not just the big ringworld space that uses these 3D screens. Smaller versions of them are used in the tiny observatory room above the bridge. Another set of screens are used in the probe control room for the jamming probe. That is why these "windows" are not seen from the outside. And why they all share the same triangle screen pattern with RGB diodes visible up close.
    Although there is ONE room that got real windows where you see the real outside, blocked by the camuflage and everything. The bridge itself. You can also see the cylindrical windows of this bridge from the exterior. It does not have the RGB diodes up close either of course. You can find the exterior of the bridge in the upper corner of the hangar that is towards the sun.
    If you want another proof that the RGB diode screens are actually 3D monitors and not windows. Try to look at them when the power goes out. They will briefly fail and shut down and go black. While the artificial sun does. And then slowly turn on unevenly. This goes for the big screens in the ringworld. And the two rooms that also uses these screens.
    This could be something you should or could show in your next cool sights and glitches video! As I think a lot of people mistake these screens for actual windows. While probably confusing the rounded bridge windows as a part of the fake screen windows. Main difference is, the real bridge windows cant see past the camuflage field and lack RGB diodes up close. Neither does it shut down during the blackout. Meanwhile all the 3D screens can see past the camuflage and goes black during blackout.

  • @Hephaestus_God
    @Hephaestus_God Před 2 lety

    Pretty sure they are solar sails.
    During one of the slide reels where you see them discover the eye signal and fly to our solar system; you can see the gree sails unfold (taking about 2-3 slides) and then they zoom off to our system. It is also probably why we can outrun the supernova in it. The stranger was detecting the sun about to explode so it was unfolding it's sails getting ready to leave

    • @TheLoreExplorer
      @TheLoreExplorer  Před 2 lety

    what is the prisoner's dialog at the campfire when you interact with him before everyone is gathered? You found him last so that dialogue was skipped.

      They say something about how the campfire has a nice warm light. Then they tell us to go find our friends because we need everyone for whats going to happen. Ill add it into a video

    There is a secondary explosion occurring in the solar system simultaneously with the supernova - you can see it on the map. Have you investigated that?

    Oh, I hadn't realized the Signal Blocker was still physically there. I had assumed that, due to the links between the Owlks and Ghost Matter (it appeared to me to be a side effect of their Power Source/Soul Energy, especially since you see a lot of it at the Artifact Workshop. Plus GM being neutralized by water & the fact that Owlk's energy seems to be fire based) that the Interloper was the Signal Blocker, just fallen out of its orbit around the Eye and that proximity to the Sun caused the power source to detonate. It seemed approximately the right shape and size, but the Blocker still existing kind of blows that out of the water.

      People see what they want to see I suppose. I don’t see any similarity between a wooden looking antler filled probe and what looks like a ball of ice.

      I thought perhaps in the millennia since the Owlks going to sleep, the ESB had just like, become covered in ice idk lol.
      Oh well haha.

    I just tested this and managed to see my ship inside the simulation with no mods, suit or glitches. It's just really far away. After realizing this I tried to leave the ship on the stranger and flew away in my suit and sure enough, while the stranger disappears, your ship is still visible, spinning in the emptiness of space. This has me wondering if it's possible to leave your ship in space where the dream world loads and have the ship inside the simulation, or if the area loading in does something to prevent this from happening.

    Man, the freecam footage of the raft really drives home how huge the Owlks were compared to the Hearthians or Nomai. Hatchling looks tiny on that thing.
    Makes me curious to see what freecam footage of you walking amongst the furniture would look like.

    • @TheLoreExplorer
      @TheLoreExplorer  Před 2 lety

      Sadly I can only control the character or the freecam. Being able to do both is a dream of mine!
