I love seeing cEDH brews like Norin! The fun part of commander for me is exploring commanders or takes on commanders that aren't really explored. And seeing what synergies and combos I can find!
at 10:32 both Fierce Guardianships (the copy and the original) actually resolve, they just can't counter Breach (they don't fizzle as narrated).
they would fizzle if the target became ilegal, but in this case the target is still legal, just can't be countered đ. (I realize it didn't matter at all in this game but it might matter if say a Pact of Negation were the card trying to counter the spell)
great games as usual but Norin seemed way underpowered for this match
They DO fizzle because the intended target became illegal as a result of the Veil.

target is still legal, the fact that it can't be countered doesn't mean it's an illegal target (I know this sounds super non-intuitive but that's the way it is)
(it would be an illegal target if it were removed from the stack for example)
It's like targeting an indestructible creature with murder, you can do it, it just won't do anything.
@@cristianprado8559 I feel like this is literally just nitpicking semantics, but by my understanding, to say a spell or ability fizzles means that something caused the spell/ability to fail.

if a Pact of Negation fizzles, you don't have to pay the 5 during your upkeep
if a Pact tries to counter a spell but can't (maybe because this spell can't be countered like is this case) Pact will still resolve and you WILL have to pay 5 during your upkeep or you'll lose.
same thing happens with a Mana Drain (if it fizzles you don't ad mana, if it revolves, even if it doesn't counter anything, you'll ad mana during your next main phase)
Those were some clean plays by the Ydris player, good job!
In game 3 when Rust cast Blasphemous Act he could've gotten a slightly better rate from it by casting his commander first. It would cause the Tome to trigger giving it two more page counters by the end step and Blasphemous Act would be the same cost to cast as Norin would be in play when he casts it. It didn't matter since the Culling Ritual made short work of all the permanents but had the game gone longer it could've made a difference.

I have krark and sakishima build which is pretty competitive so looking forward to seeing them in action, also have norin the wary chaos build so should be a great episode for ideas đ

That Norin deck did less than I was expecting, somehow. Why did you let someone play a midpower deck in a fullpower pod?
I almost explicitly play cedh, but Norin is my absolute favorite low power casual commander. Having said that, when I saw this, I thought, âsomeone found a way to bring Norin to cedh!?â⊠no⊠they just played my casual deck in a cedh podâŠ
I checked out the decklist, and its basically just a generic "mono red CEDH combos" list with Norrin at the helm for a small amount of synergy with stuff like impact tremors. Not exactly sure what was going on here, since any one of about a half dozen other mono red commanders seem like they'd be better choices to helm this list.
I just think he's neat :)

For the comments ragging on Norin the wary being a casual / mid power deck, i don't think you can make that argument after only seeing three extremely fast games. You are succumbing to a sample size bias. I loved seeing it in action, and I hope he finds his way back to the table in another episode.

One bit of constructive criticism i have for your videos is that it would be cool to see what cards are tutored for, even if the card doesnât specify to reveal it. The players could show just the camera, then potentially edit that out and narrate it, or just leave the reveal in. Either would work.
I must say. I don't think I've ever seen Norin ever do anything particularly cEDH. Please help me understand, what am I missing?
The Truth, basically.
Having a creature get free ETBs/LTBs for existing is incredibly powerful, especially when combined with payoffs like Impact Tremors/Old Purpheros. He's nearly impossible to kill, making him a very durable win con after being cast, and on the off-chance he's somehow killed he's very affordable.

Nice Tripleheader, I know one of your sponsors is TCGplayer, so you list your decks on their website - but Moxfield has so much utility. Maybe you could convince TCG to upgrade their deck list software. Would be nice to have primers, notes or easy downloadability.

Norin didnât feel CEDH. Some of the cards didnât really feel like the optimal picks to run in that build
Came down here to say this. I was already dubious just seeing Norin in the title but I've been impressed by rogue decks before, then I saw sting scourger and command sphere in the opener and the gameplay was certainly not an improvement. I'm sorry to be this guy but i have to say that bringing a casual deck to a cEDH table is imo equally as bad as bringing a cEDH deck to a casual table.

the Yidris deck doesn't really use it's commander for anything but the colours right? so you could play Silas Renn and Tana the blood sower if you wanted to or any compnation that gives you UBRG. I do like the norin deck, but I think it just might be too slow, even with impact tremors and Purphoros out, each opponent taking 3 damage pr. spell will not be enough. even with all the damage doublers and triplers out, Norin would deal at most: 1 from impact tremrs, 2 from Purphoros, God of the Forge, Fienish duo would double that, so 6 damage, dictate of the twin gods would double that, so 12 and fiery emancipation would triple that, 36 damage, meaning with furnace of rather, thats 72 damage pr. spell BUT.... you would need everything out and there is no way that happens. but I do see the birgi-grinning ignis combo in there, which would ping the table with impact tremors out.
Nah, I didnât get to showcase but Yidris is a wincon all by himself in that deck.

Honestly, if the title of a video is "Tymna/Thrasios vs Najeela vs Kess vs Tevesh/Kraum" I will probably never click it. But If I see Norin, Syr Carah, Yeva, Tameshi, Extus, Valki, etc. Anything that sounds spicy and I'll be there.

there will always be an "easy win" in this game. there are ways to stop thoracle with counterspells and stifle effects.
if someone has an empty library, you can respond to the thoracle trigger by making them draw a card, causing them to lose the game.
At least people cant win om turn 0 like during the Flash-Hulk days.

Oh I absolutely understand that itâs the best way to win, I do it myself. I personally donât like it and think games that revolve around it are a snooze. Thatâs why I said thoracle games are a snooze.
@@adamhelgeson9329 fair enough! we think it's more about the journey rather than the ending of a game. this game had a ton of cool stuff in it and some highly unique strategies. personally I loved the yidris deck with a backup hermit druid line. very unique! and that noah guy is so cool
