Thank you so much! I love blueberries!
Also, your photography is excellent. It was so peaceful to see shadows and sunlight dappled on the blueberry branch you filmed!
In addition to the information provided...I understand that adding peat moss to soil makes the soil acidic for blueberries.
Finally, it was a surprise for me to hear that blueberries love lots of sun because I used to pick them in the forest. But if I remember correctly after all, I guess I was picking them in the clearings where they got lots of sun. It was a summer tradition for my parents to take us to pick quarts and quarts of blueberries for canning, baking and eating fresh. 😁

It's not because California doesn't get cold enough. Plenty of places in California do. It's the soil...not acidic enough. I've been growing blueberries in pots in so cal for years...first in straight peat most. Now I'm mixing with perlite and that seems to work better. I fertilize with Epsoma soil acidifier/fertilizer and the blueberry bushes love it. My plants I bought a few months ago that were about 8 inches tall are now about 2 1/2 feet tall with big leaves and growing fast. I just gave them some gypsum to see if they like that too. Gypsum provides calcium to plants for strong structure.

Jag - I've got about 200 plants that are more than 20 years old. You don't "pick" blueberries, you put your hand or bucket underneath a cluster and tickle or otherwise coerce the ripe berries to fall. If you develop that technique you will fill buckets faster and with predominately ripe fruit.
