I have owed all generations including a 2004 Mazdaspeed. I just picked up my 2023 GSP Club with the Brembo, BBS, Recaro. Love it… The most smiles per miles $$$ can buy!
4.5 years ago I paid $1,500 for a CA NA with just over 100k miles, planed to keep it for couple summer months. Never sold it, and probably will never sell. Such a great car.

I've been pretty much daily driving a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata for the past 4 years and I love it! With a few easy bolt on mods (Flyin' Miata gang) you can get the car to ~200whp & torque- it's a blast. 200whp at 2500lbs with the short gearing makes it feel very quick around town, without needing large stretches of open road to fully enjoy the car. You're constantly shifting up and down the 6-speed, the shifts are notchy and short, the clutch is light and easy to use. While you're doing that, the car sounds like a 500 Abarth with less pops and more intake/turbo noise. I get the occasional backfire on upshifts and burbles on decel- 200hp has never felt this rowdy. Still it's not fast on long straight roads and highways; I'd say it's comparable to a Civic Type R so it's not winning drag races, but it moves out of its own way with relative ease. Plenty of power for a street car that doesn't live on the highway.
I think a Mazdaspeed Miata might be the most fun you can have on 4 wheels at that price point (this is including the cost of the few bolt ons to make the MSM good so ~15-17k total). I'd argue it's easily up there with the S2000 in terms of fun and driving dynamics, but at half the price. The S2000 is a better track car and the MSM is a better street car, but they're comparable in terms of raw fun. The powerband is more usable in the MSM with it being turbocharged and torquey even at lower revs. Turbo noises ≥ Vtec noises too.
They still pop up for sale every once in a while and they might be at their cheapest point ever right now. Sub 3000lbs, ICE, manual transmission, RWD, 50|50 weight balance, simple to work on, reliable, huge aftermarket... I imagine all of those are gonna be hard to find on their own in 20 years and almost impossible to find all together. They're slowly becoming classics and they're a great representation of the early 2000s era of sports cars- just before cars got safer and less fun across the board.

I had a mint 2004 mazdaspeed mx5, with tasteful flying miata mods was pushing 210 hp and 200 torque which was plenty for that car sadly I sold to help ex wife biggest regret of my life.
Its ok bro. I sold my 03 tacoma to keep the apartment me and my ex fiance had right before she left. I understand your pain.

What's funny about the NC MX-5 is that despite it being the heaviest generation at 1,110kg (soft-top), it's somehow still lighter than the AP1 S2000, which weighs a whopping 164kg heavier (1,274kg).
Also, the NC was the last generation to have hydraulic steering, and while it wasn't as good as the NA or NB, the nature of it being hydraulic means it has better feedback than an electric rack, which if you look on forums is one of the few complaints S2K owners have.
I got my 1st ND1 mx5 last week and I’m so addicted to upgrading everything available for it and driving it just for the heck of it all over. Can’t wait for summer😎🤘🏼

I have a 2003 LS with a hard top in garnet red. I love it. It is a step up from my red 1991.
Tom Matano is an incredible designer, and a very humble man. I was fortunate enough to have met him in August of last year, where he signed my car. Mazda has some absolutely unique heritage in that car, I hope whatever the future holds for the Miata, it will be as grand as the NA was.

the only oem NA miata parts more valuable than a hard top are the mazdaspeed a-spec bodykits and the mazdaspeed bucket seats. i recently saw a pair of the mazdaspeed seats going for $4000 for a pair

@lilblingking1491 I got lucky found my 2000 2.3 manual for 2600 only the interior is trash and it had a misfire. New sparkplug and coils are it runs smooth. I have a bunch of preventative maintenance I want to do because bmw. Only down fall is small aftermarket support

I would never buy one but I have fitted a lot of aftermarket parts to them, only the latest version tho. In that latest version I think the steering wheel is way too big.. if I actually owned one I'd be swapping that wheel for a smaller one ASAP. Oh and fitting a turbo to it..
62 yrs old. Best car I have ever owned. Goes great with a pickup. I will own a Miata to the end of my driving days.
Even on older versions, Im buying na NB soon, steering wheel swap is very high on my priority list of mods, I can barely fit and that huge steering wheel doesn't help.

Buddy you forgot the 2004 and 2005 mazdaspeed Miata. They were not always naturally aspirated.
I have a 2015 nc miata it is not a boat by any mean the hate the nc's get is laughable 😂 its a fantastic car and its my personal favorite generation

@@IdealMediaChannel I love the exterior design of the NC Miata. Overall design looks cool, the proportion is "just right" to me and the NC Miata is the first Miata to feature a hard top retractable roof!! I don't care what people say about the weight. It's just 100lb more than the NB. The NC Miata has the most spacious interior compared to the others. Even though it's heavier than the NB, the engine did make up for it.
And the another reason why I love the NC Miata is because the NC Miata is my first pick when I started to play the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6 arcade game!

I have a fantastic Miata 2.0 ND with some modifications, fantastic car, fun to drive with the naturally aspirated engine that pushes up to 7500 RPM, beautiful design, in just 1070KG you have everything you need,

The vinyl top on the 2010 mx5 is garbage. It will split at the pivot points or seams within 2 years. The guy that installed a replacement said it was made by Toyota. No matter what i used the second vinyl top split too. It did not leak but it looked cheap like the Bmw z3 plastic window
I am legit considering picking up either an NB or NC Miata. I live in Utah, and we have a LOT of canyons here, so the potential is high for a canyon carver.

I would just like to correct that this isn't a JDM car like he says in the beginning. These were very well intended to be sold in the US and were very successful in our market

Even a brand new nd2 is affordable compared to the pricing of the na when it first came out when you count inflation. In a world of cars that seem to only get fatter and heavier with so much horsepower that you already breaking the law in 2nd gear ,Mazda was able to go lighter smaller with the added tech all while packaging it in a Front mid engine for that perfect 50/50 and faster with a higher redline than ever before 🤌 it's truly a masterpiece in today car enthusiast world
