We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

Very nice, Evan. You might consider how to install a permanent access ladder to the roof since you may need to maintain that array every once in a while.
You'd be surprised how many times you need easy access to the Solar Array. Ice, snow, birds wasps etc
@@bay9876 not only for those reasons the ground installation (of course if you have enough place on the ground) is a way easier to be maintained, but the most important issue is fire safety.
Evan I just want to say I really appreciate how your always open about cost. That is always a uncomfortable topic to even talk to people you know. It’s not really anyones business but it sure helps all of us get a good idea for our projects
They look like a professional installed them, glad Rebecca was their to retrieve the ladder. Always a good idea to have someone around when your on the roof. Looking forward to the baby duck, keep us informed
Very impressed, Evan, that you were able to complete this huge job, while also filming a great video for your viewers. I love everything about this video from the "eye in the blue sky" views of your house and property to your ability to make it look easy to get the panels in place by yourself while describing the process. Great job. Kudos to Rebecca, too, for her important part in the whole process.
Beside every good man is a good woman!
😊
You Have A Beautiful Homestead Reminds Me of My Parents Farm
Great job Evan and Rebecca, She's always saving your bacon isn't she. lol She's a great helper and goes above the expected on so many occasions. Glad she was there to keep you working. Looks good and looking forward to seeing how things are going with the solar install next winter. Keep up the great videos and having fun around there. Fred.
Great job! So proud for you!
Really appreciate you citing some of the codes related to this project. I had no idea about leaving walkways for firefighters but that makes sense.
Looks professionally installed!! Great job!!😃
Must be very satisfying seeing a job well done. Sometimes you've just got to get on and get the job done by yourself. Great work. All the best 🇬🇧.
Excellent work, I'm loving this series!👍
Excellent install. Lovely views on a nice day.
Great neat job as allways😊
Excited to finally see this video! Congrats on the big check off the annual list!
Another beautiful job done.
God keep you safe, because I know you aren’t going to pay the wind any attention, ❤
Your workshop plans are coming along nicely w/ the interior walls & roof top solar panels. It's great having nicer weather for tackling those outdoor tasks!
Amazing work and coordination
As a fireman, I didn’t know about the shut off switch. Good to know! Thanks!!
Very nice work as usual. I'm glad that you did your research and looked up the codes for everything.
It looks great.😊 I'm impressed with your eye to detail. Very even lines, too.
Evan a couple of eye hooks (heavy duty) installed on your pole barn at high level means you always have a location to tie or bungee cord the top of your ladder to the barn whilst in the roof. It stops any risk of falling in the wind and more importantly is secure when you are climbing back off roof. A few dollars well spent
Very very nice job Evan and Rebecca!
You've really done your homework. Great job.
Great job Evan!👍🏻
Great install job and it looks very nice Evan. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Well, you did a great job
Very nice job. Looks great. You did good.
Smart installation. You will certainly reap the benefits of all your hard work.
Good video, I have been waiting for you to make this one. Thanks for going into and explaining the minor details of installation. Your video answers many questions I've had about installing my own solar system.
Good job Evan, panels are at an affordable level which ids good to see
Great job!
Looks great! Very clean install! Can’t wait to see it all hooked up and working.
Me too!
Another nice job Evan. Blessings🙂
Lookin' good, Evan - Hoping all works well when you fire it up... Take care, and be safe....
Great Job...Thanks for explaining everything and prices...Yes, Be Careful on the roofs....Be safe and thanks for another great video.....See you again !!!
Great video , great work ! Congratulations !! Stay safe !
Evan always does an outstanding job!
Nice job Even keep up the good work can't wait to see the finish product thanks for sharing
Always secure the ladder with a rope lead that you can grab if it falls
I like what your doing there with the solar panels, but at my that's a lot of work for an older guy like me, so I'd have to have it done. Yes it does look like you had a beautiful day to do that work. Good pointer on safety at getting on the roof and having help moving across the roof with a panel. Thanks Evan, great video, enjoyed watching, have a great evening.
Very useful information for anyone planning to install solar panels.
They look good. I’m glad the wind didn’t blow; that would have been a disaster.😊❤❤❤❤
Good view from the roof
Very nice!
Hi, Evan and Rebekah! Nice setup. I enjoy watching you work together. You just scare me up on that roof! I am terrified of heights. Sometimes I had to close my eyes when you were carrying the panels across the roof.
You are producing some of the best videos on youtube. You are a craftsman for sure.
Glad you and Rebecca are a great team 😀. Love your videos.
Great job looks great.
A happy man to get that job finished.
I'm glad you didn't have wind/tornado damage. I drove from Vincennes to Robinson then by Sullivan last Saturday. Oh my goodness the devastation.
Yes, they say the tornado was on the ground for 42 miles.
Looks great Evan have a good day.
Great job Evan💖
Good job! Learned a lot today!
Great job
Nice job, Give me hope for my shop.
You will never give up or give in. Will get it done. Admire that❤❤❤
nice looking install👍
My Dad's ladder did that years ago. He lived over by Big Creek in IL. He didn't have many neighbors. Luckily one went by and helped him lol.
Thank you Evan
Great job big Man thanks alot to Rebecca for her efforts too she is indeed a great woman
Nice! Been waiting for this video!
Good job brother. Wish i was into electronics and technical stuff like that. Might be the best days work you've done bro. Yall gonna save some money!! Now come do mine!!
Evan, greetings from Ireland, a great job and I'm looking with envy at the rest of that roof and what it might provide by way of " free electricity ". Your going in the right direction....off grid
Great job!! They look nice and uniform up there. All the best from Greensboro NC.
Very awesome Job Evan
Wow!! Good Job 👍 Have a Great Evening!! ❤😊
Well done Evan good job give you a dignity . All the best to you all
Great Job!
Excellent job - love it man.
Great job sir looks great …👍🏼👍🏼
Good job 👏
Great job😮
Yet another fantastic job at CVA
Thanks I needed that ideal I want to install solar on my building
Very nice job!! I would be very interested in the long term performance of the roof penetrations. I had poor luck with getting roof racks with roof penetration to not leak.
Great video. You have a good story telling ability as you do this.
Prediction . . . this vid will soon become one of your most watched. Was fun view for us. Definition of that camera is great.
Good Job!
What an interesting, informative video. I’m with Rebecca. Although I am a pilot I am not fond of ladders or roof walking.
Standing on the edge like you did scares the heck out of me. But, to do it with my back turned would cause me to go into cardiac arrest.
PLEASE …. Next time have TWO on the roof and one on the ground.
Thanks for posting this.
Interesting video as always .. stay safe 🏴
Hey Evan, great job on the solar! I don't know if your interested or not, but Brandon at Eddie Family Farm is about to plant his first garden on his new property. And maybe he could use your help on how you spaced out your garden and burned holes in the fabric. Maybe share your garden video from last spring. This is just suggestion is all. No worries. God Bless!
Nice work
You might actually be surprised during the winter. We have a 19 degree pitch on ours, located in northern NH and it does really well in the winter months. Averages 30-50kWh a day once the snow clears. We have a 24 pannel system using Canadian Solar panels and Enphase iQ8m inverters
Nice job ))
Very nice!!!
Love the way that Rebekah was waiting ing to catch you, or at the very least, have a giggle when you fell off , ,
Excellent video man!
Suggestion you need to tie off ladder always wind can happen any time also recommend a slide out prevent tie off to keep bottom of ladder from walking out at the base been there and done that and got stuck on roof and have the bottom slide out while on ladder if you use ladders long enough it's just matter of time it will happen
Great suggestion!
You're the man!👍🙂
Good job evan hey don't forget to clean the metal shavings off the roof it will leave rust stains
I probably should have cleaned it off. But the rails are made of Aluminum, so not rust.
Awesome job. Looks great. I see you've already got people on you about being up on the roof LoL. Keep up the good work.
I found this video very interesting, in that I installed a solar collection set of pannels on a newly constructed home in Bloomington Illinois in 1978. Thies were "hot air" collectors made by a Company called SOLARON ( a company that no longer exists) .I installed them by myself on a two story roof , assisted by a sign company boom truck. The heated air was ducted to a "rock storage heat sink' in the basement. It had a complicated set of controls and I think it was "Semi successful" . Unfortunately, the whole project was abandoned and the house was torn down , so I don't know how well it worked.
Watching you up on that roof made me SO nervous as I hate heights. Great job though, you 2 work so well together.
Solar is great. Our electric bill last month was $2.64, and in spring and summer through September it's usually $0.00.
Great Job, Great video. Thanks. If you had to do it again I would recommend looking at Microinverters as they would make the job easier although they would limit the option of running off grid unless you pick the Enphase unit.
Hey evan what would you do if Rebecca was at work and know phone lol safety first
My OCD is REALLY enjoying this video, especially at @17:30.
Suggest -- Wrapping the edge with mesh to keep the birds from nesting inside/underneath. They become pigeon condos here in AZ
YAY. Well Done,
