    I'm from here. They're trying to raise the property taxes 70% here presently. Also, the draw to these neighborhoods is that they're not part of the surrounding area of Leland. Old Leland for instance, which happens to have a notable drug problem. Most of my friends I grew up with ended up moving away or getting hooked. My friends and I used to tell each other 'nobody lives in Leland because they want to' because there was never anything to do here. The further north/west in town you go, the more noticeable it gets. The east side of Leland isn't immune. I've even found bags of drugs in gas stations there. They're all over the sides of the roads. The infrastructure isn't terrible though, but it's made problematic at times by poor decision-making and people's impatience. A great example is the Walmart exits, which are posted 'No Right On Red.' You watch people run it almost every time. I've personally been hit by 2 failure-to-yields and a distracted driver turning into me as a result of people's impatience here. The area has been known to be hostile to pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and road workers alike. The road workers sometimes beg on social media not to be hit by vehicles or thrown objects because it's a common occurrence. The golf resorts are pretty, but among contractors in the area there are a number of us who refuse to work in some of them. St James near Southport is extremely well-known for this attitude, but it shows up in these communities too. Happened to me once while working outside, too. Customer called my boss and demanded I be fired because I have hair longer than a few inches. We also have an issue with flooding that has been growing as the area is developed. Hurricane Florence was an eye-opener. We saw places like Stoney Creek flooded so badly that boat rescues were necessary. Many of us locals had concerns when that area was approved for development, but watching flooding render much of it uninhabitable validated those concerns.
    One might think I'm just against people coming here or developing this place in general by reading this. They'd have a reasonable ground to stand on, but my main concern is that we are developing without concern for the long-term ramifications and ignoring the needs of the people already here, and doing so at the expense of valuable forestry and wetlands, as well as the habitat of endangered species of plants and animals.

    You may want to modify this video. There are NO golf carts allowed in Brunswick Forest, nor are there 30 restaurants.

      You’re right - somebody told me that golf carts are allowed and I should’ve fact checked. And also about 30 restaurants. There are 30 around the neighborhood but not in the neighborhood - I definitely misspoke (I’m human).
      Thank you for watching!

    30 Restaurants in Brunswick Forest ? 30 stores or shops is maybe what you meant?

      Wow yeah that’s not true…. I misspoke - should’ve said “in the area” not in Brunswick Forest..

    Where are all the natural trees?

      Unfortunately a lot of the big neighborhoods get cleared and then new trees get planted. One of the negatives about an up and coming area for sure!

    Brunswick Forest is NOT a golf cart community. that is a misstatement

      @livejacksonvillenc  Před 2 měsíci

      You’re right - I think I retracted the statement in the video but you’re right definitely a misstatement. It honestly should be though; they should gate the community to make it a little more interconnected! Thank you for watching 🤙🏼
