  • Horrible screeching noises coming from either the alternator or power steering belt on my MX5 nb, I replace both auxiliary belts and adjust for tightness. I also give the MX5 an oil and spark plug change.

    There's also a bolt underneath the alternator that will need loosening. If its already loose it will need tightening up as part of putting the belt on. Will stop it coming loose and squealing.
    Also in relation to the hole in the power steering pully, just put the car in 5th and roll it slightly. Ideal for a car with a low or poor battery if you're worried about this

      What is the part number of that bolt?

      @f1gridlock Před 4 měsíci

      That bolt under the back of the alternator can be a real pain! One option I've seen on Miata forum is to use a crowbar between the underside of the alternator and the engine block protrusion to force it to pivot a little and force the bolt loose. I'm yet to try it though.

    This is how I remember it with my Peugeot 104 and Renault 5 (no power steering, but I did alternator jobs). Simple: loosen, move, take off, replace, reverse procedure. Now, it's like untangling the Bolognese in a children's lunchbox - my Modus being the worst.

    The oil filter is an utter bastard in the NB 2.5 I have. I had to take off the top brace and the RH mount tower for it. Then you can just get your left hand down to it. Unscrew and pass to your right under the intake manifold and pull it out the front. There is an epf filter tank or something which makes access very tight. Going through the wheel well is one option but didn't work for me.
    I've just done the valve cover and new plugs and I have the belts on the shelf ready to go so cheers for this you have saved me lots of time and swearing.

    Hi, I have the same problem
    I had a performance shop put new belts on and tighten everything up but when I start the engine with the ac on I’m still getting the squealing belt sound.
    I feel like I’m just going to have to take the car back to be tightened but knowing my luck it won’t squeal when I take it in 😂

    Do u know how to fix the power steering on the Combo van mate mine goes really stiff when parking

    • @RustLocker
      @RustLocker  Před 3 lety

      I’d check for leaks or loose belt. Then bleed power steering fluid, or replace if it’s old, could also be brake booster or other things mate.
