One time, Zed will read this and put some shulker boxes and messages on the corners right before Xisuma preapres the world for the download
I went and got the world download specifically because of this comment. If anyone was curious the answer is yes. All nether corner blocks in Zedaph's portal all accounted for.

Observation 9: Zedaph has brought another Hermit to the lab. But rather than the chamber, Impulse is forced to navigate Mike's maze, but on Impossible difficulty. Hilarity ensues, and Impulse turns out to be a good sport. Or is he? I could see him "returning the favor."
The spinning tunnel is genius. Lots of people make tunnels with spinning designs, but this is the first I've seen that actually moves! I do hope Zed tells the mason; they do love knowing that their work is used in a unique way.
Side note: this small science Zed "plush" head is adorable. No wonder Impulse was distracted. Let's see if Mike is fooled and tries to eat it.

Zed putting hermit in a maze with no exit feels like an experiment actual scientists would do
I know why the lamp on the front (Not the ones at the back) isn't moving. When you redirected the redstone from your pressure plates to avoid it going into the first piston, you instead sent it into a netherack block that is powering a different piston, thus locking the single tile. To fix this you should use tripwire hooks to redirect your redstone, not redstone dust itself.
Yup the problem occured after he put the pressure plates in, it is certainly a wiring issue
As for the one in the back pretty sure its server related
this type of problems are very common in bedrock and very illogical too,
exapmle:
monostable doesn't work after signal going in it is passed through a block
3 by 3 compact piston door doesn't work when i cover everything up and use it with pressure plate
perfectly timed double piston extender doesn't work. we need to slow it down few more ticks
flying machines randomly goes back or forth
it is easy to make a randomizer in bedrock edition
@@hyperbhavik Yeah, bedrock redstone is definitely pretty wonky, which can often times lead to more complicated designs.
@@hyperbhavik Having redstone, which is based off of wiring, be random is bad design, and is unfortunately what bedrock has to deal with.
Red stone is so flipping hard to learn. No matter how much it’s explained by Zedaph or Mumbo, I really just can’t.
that tunnel is nuts. i know in previous seasons there have been piston feed tapes with different colors and even ones advertising messages, but that tunnel is probably the best use of a piston feed tape i've seen. the quartz pillar really just adds so much to it.
Impulse figuring out the experiment at 6:53 is wonderful.

I'm not 100% sure this is the cause, but you *DID* change the repeater delay on those last couple slices. Did you remember to change them back before building the rest of the tunnel out?
This seems like a likely culprit.
I think I know what caused it. If you chain repeaters like what zedaph did with the default delays and give the line an observer clock input, the last 1 or 2 repeaters will always stay on. The solution may be changing some repeaters into comparators at the end. Weird Minecraft querk I guess.
You could also exchange the repeater lines with observers.

I think that would mess with timing but they would have still worked. They aren't always working so a pulse is being missed only occasionally? It may be server lag if they do work sometimes but not always.
Too many block updates? Make sure everything is illuminated fully so lighting updates are not adding to the lag...
The reason some are messing up for the tunnel is because the location for updating a bud piston depends on the block it is placed on in the world. Different places require an update from a different side. Ilmango has a good video on the issue.
yo zed I got a pretty cool idea, you could make a "Free Cake" Room where the challenge is to get to the cake and eat it seeming easy but there's all sort of traps that show up that will make it almost impossible to see which Hermit is capable of eating the cake the fastest
I haven't laughed this hard at Impulse on Hermitcraft. It usually takes Skizz to really push his buttons. This was the perfect experiment for impy

Zedaph definitely has my favourite base this season.
If we're talking architecture, especially exterior it's not great. The interior looks good. But it's just SO FUN, I could never get bored in this base. So many bases are just good-looking empty shells with at best useless interior (tables and chairs nobody would ever use) but Zed's base is so dense, so accessible and has a ton of functionality. Everywhere you walk, there's an item flying around or something to press and observe.

Would be fun to have the tunnel triggered by tripwires at both ends instead of pressure plates, so you can fly down it as well!
You should add sticky piston under all the maze path blocks, so it can go from 2 block height to 1, and get hermits to go through it as well.

I would put slower clock in the tunnel. It would make the spinning more distinct and maybe it would fix the odd late lights. I think the redstone pulse catches up with the previous one and therefore the repeaters don't change and observers don't fire..

You know you glossed over the real potential of mini science zed. Mini me's of all the hermits could prove invaluable for a variety of psychological experiments
*@ZedaphPlays* Eg. 18:00 It is usually a bad idea to move light blocks with pistons, because each time the world need to calculate the light level for an 8-radius sphere for every block, which is a relatively very expensive calculation, it is ok to do that calculation like once when someone places a torch, but if you move a lot of blocks every ticks (19:32), that's a lag machine, and if it's done big enough (like thousands of blocks in a mostly dark place) then it can crash a server.

The downside of this tunnel is it only gets set off when you're coming back
If Impulse was really smarter than an Endermite he would have distracted Zed by asking a question about the graph behind him or something and broken a block to make his own exit wherever he wanted 😅
Put every light in a random spot instead of having them all in a line, that way you won't have to worry about them getting out of sync.

The hermitcraft nether hub always inspires me to make my own until I realize how much work it is and give up
Zedaph is easily my favourite hermit for episode production quality and professionalism. The other Hermits are good but nobody does videos quite like Zed! Happy to wait for well made episodes rather than regular rushed episodes.
Mumbo knows his piston feed tapes quite well, having made many videos with them over the years. Maybe he can help with the timings a bit to fix the ones that are out-of-phase?
I haven't read all the comments and so I'm sure someone else made this reference, but Zed you HAVE to do a james bond intro with this tunnel. with all the lady hermits!

Pretty sure the pistons are still extended when the blocks are trying to be pushed, it's why the last few are out of sync. You'll notice the ones on the starting side stay fully extended as well when nothing was going on.
I would have been tempted to use black and white blocks in the portal corridor to represent the Fraser Spiral Illusion. It would hint at the psychological nature of the experiments done in the lab too. 😉
I've always enjoyed making weird stuff with piston tapes. Just making a simple pattern and repeating it can make such cool looking stuff.

The lagging Sea Lanterns appear to moving correctly on the rising edge, but failing on the falling edge.
I'd suggest slowing the entire timing system down to a long crawl to confirm, then adjust the timers to compensate.

You should put the sea lanterns in random spots so it doesn't matter if some of them stop in a weird place and use iron pressure plates instead of the blackstone ones so it blends in a bit

I would like to see the finished tunnel with the FOV setting. Maybe add a sign for the other hermits, so they can experience it as well. Awesome tunnel, dude!
I love the nether tunnel design - one suggestion; since nothing else is down that way, what if the activator for the movement was farther up the tunnel? That way the spiral motion could already be happening when hermits get there!

Your nether tunnel effect is super cool, but I think the lanterns actually detract from the swirling vortex of sciencyness. Maybe add end rods to middle of roof as a fluorescent bulb and take out lanterns? It would take care of the strange desyncronizing slices as well.
You should use the wool you have in the tunnel to give a moving hallway effect like what the upside down house uses in Branson Missouri and Nashville Tennessee

Zed, I LOVE this!! I was hoping for a little speed stripe, maybe red concrete for 2 of the lines instead of 4 lantern stripes, but honestly, there is no one quite like you on the Hermitcraft server. Bravo.

I feel like moving the pressure plates a little bit farther from the tunnel would help sync it exactly (or at least a little bit earlier) when you enter it. Either way, it's such a cool concept!

Should try speaking to Tango and Impulse regarding the tunnel, they had about the same problem in season 7 with their concrete shop.
That tunnel is SUPER COOL! Brilliant
Nice a vortex tunnel that actually move. BTW the Redstone issues are just minecraft being quirky, budpowering the budpower prolly. Not sure there is a fix for it. Had the same issue in a stackable shulker loader I made. As soon as the signal went above 16 blocks issues started.
The second row is caused by some badly redirected redstone dust. The dust under the pressure plates was pointing into a piston in the first row, so Zedaph tried to redirect it, but ended up making it power a netherack block next to a piston in the second row, thus locking it when the signal strength is too high. A simple fix would be to change out the dust he's using for redirecting into a tripwire hook, which would still redirect the redstone without powering anything.
I'm not sure why the back ones aren't working, perhaps it's a similar deal, but I would need to see the redstone back there to tell.
Some say ImpulseSV is still there 😂 Every time he is late for a future stream, I'll say he's "in Zed's Maze!

To troubleshoot the feed tape tunnel, you could copy and paste the tunnel from hermit craft to a creative world, where you could use the /tick warp (low number here) command (in carpet mod) to see where it's going wrong. Also, you might want to paste the contraption in the correct chunk position (in the creative world).
You may want to check if server lag is causing the last 2 slices to remain powered for extended periods of time so they are not being pulsed because when the pulse hits they are still extended.

Just rewatched this because I was having some timing issue on a piston rotation setup involving coral (resulting in dead coral from misfires) and your observer timing trick fixed everything so thanks for explaining that.
I think the obvious choice for the lab sign is a Rainbow Sheep. Perhaps standing on slabs so more visible from the ground. Maybe there's a less obvious one?
