Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from The Upward Spiral by Alex Korb. Hope you enjoy!
Alex Korb is a neuroscientist in the department of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. (Go Bruins!) He’s also a great writer. As per the sub-title, the book is all about “Using Neuroscience to Reverse the Course of Depression, One Small Change at a Time.” It’s REALLY good. Inspiring. Scientifically grounded. Simple. Practical. A winning formula for a great book!

It was the ‘make decisions’ one that drew me in. Somewhere in my life journey I started overthinking. Make a decision and move on. Amen to that!
    Brilliant summary Brian. Thank you

How do we get out of depression right now, in the middle of a pandemic, when most of the little things that we could do the break the vicious cycle are forbidden? Meeting people, going to the gym or sometimes even walking?(depending on the country...)

Some of this is really helpful. Feeling somewhat depressed and deflated after a car accident this weekend where I was on the way back from a fitness certification training and nodded off at the wheel going 70mph. Thankfully, noone was injured, but I've been nodding off so much more since I quit smoking. For as long as I can remember, since my teens at least, I have felt more tired than I should, regardless of how much sleep I got, but VERY rarely used to nod off or nap in my smoking days. Now I nap and nod off all the time. I quit smoking after over a decade and for over 2 years have been waking up at 5am to start my day with red light therapy, reading something short, constructive and digestible like the Daily Stoic, and a workout, continually expanding my peak fitness. I am proud of my progress, and feel great for 4 hours or so, but most days it's mentally painful just to stay awake, much less process things and think proactively/productively, and I'm so tired of being tired. I have just been trying to nap when I can and accept my tiredness as an aspect of chasing my better self, rejecting the idea of talking to a doctor about medication as a shortcut or weakness, but the accident was a reality check. I know I need to use this as an upward spiral "learner's mistake" moment, but often sleeping more is not an option, if I am going to stick with my routine. I am EXTREMELY blessed for the consequences to not have been worse, but I am going to see a doctor about it today. I have some addictive tendencies, so I worry that this will be a path of rationalization to an unecessary, sub-optimal dependency, but I am also a single father, primary parent of two wonderful daughters, and I cannot ever nod off at the wheel again -- for our sake or whoever else's world I could potentially affect tragically.

Know this is a year old but have you had your ferritin levels checked? Correcting low iron stores is a common solution if theyre showing < 40 (iron deficiency without anemia shows in ferritin levels not iron or haemoglobin) , anemia is just the next stage of that , + this can get worse with long exercise sessions over time if not aware of levels
