- Took my 1974 BMW 2002Tii to Tofino and Vancouver Island! The odometer stopped working for a bit but I still clocked over 2,000 miles! Had a lot of fun! Went to Tofino, Port Renfrew, Ucluelet, and even to Penticton for the Okanagan Dream Rally! And the 2002tii didn't skip a beat!

-- With your odometer, it's driven by a little white plastic/nylon gear on the end of the odometer axle (it's been some years, so I forget the exact layout). Anyway it's pretty obvious. What happens is the gear slips and starts spinning on the axle instead of turning the axle (it has to work harder turning over multiple digits, and that's why odos usually stop there). It's readily fixable, you just need to pop the gear off and knurl the axle (ridge/distress it with a pair of pliers) to create more grip, then pop the gear back on. I'm just racking my brain whether the job requires first taking off the speedo needle and instrument face or not. If it does, just make a note of the needle's "weight" against the stop peg before popping the needle gently off -- you'll need to set the weight about the same when reassembling if you want an accurate speedo. I don't recall any need to remove the odo digits from the axle, but it's possible (I've done too many different speedo repairs to recall, LOL). I think the gear is the first thing in line and you can just remove it, knurl the axle, and replace it (you might have to first unscrew the odo carriage from the speedo, I can't remember). The digits are easy-peasy if you do have to remove them, and you can set them to whatever you want when reassembling, haha. Just keep them in the correct physical order.
-- With the window regulator, LOL. Those damn rivets. I'd just end up replacing the rivet with a bolt, as the new regulators were ridiculously expensive and didn't last all that long anyway (they might be NLA now, too?). Using a bolt means you get a little slop in the system because the bolt doesn't have the shoulder on it, but bolts last longer and you can replace them in a jiffy. If you get (or make) the right size bushing to create the shoulder, you could probably go with a bolt and have no slop.

Woah! Thanks for the info. The reknurling makes a lot of sense. It did start to work on its own again but how long would that last? I did replace the regulator already. The rivers are definitely a weak point. I luckily have lots of extras!
How do these cars become such a big demand over there?
Where did you leave from? Cow town is 14 and change thousand to the island via the 1, and the 3 is shorter but slower. Any trip maps? Also, its probably further than the ice lake you're going to for your laps, but Morley has a winter race track set up most years. I think bearspaw road would be fastest for you to get there

Haha i hate ferry side fixing. I was leaving from duke to get to tsawassen and had a loose belt, snapped a tensioner and had to walk to a hardware store to make one
