After a year or so of listenining to me hem n haw around about buying a plasma cutter, my wife ordered this very one for my birthday last year. I'm here to tell you, after you play around and learn how to use it, you'll be looking for things to cut up and wondering how you survived so long without one!

This was 1 of the best investments I made at my shop for fabricating. I got the Harbor Freight $800.00 version when it was $600.00. I highly recommend you install a water/contaminant separator on the unit. Even though you have 1 on your compressor, the hose laying on the concrete floor will create condensation in the hose which will ruin the unit. As time goes on, you will find more things are possible with this. I have even blown out broken bolts with mine & cleaned the hole out & used the same threads.

    Plasma cutter 101.
Electric arc plus compressed air creates plasma so hot it literally vaporizes the metal.
Other posters recommend getting tip consumables, good idea.
I worked in a welding shop, we were using large ones for cutting pipe in a pipe beveling machine for carbon steel and stainless steel.
A small unit like that is fine for sheet metal in your garage.
    Avoid breathing the fumes.
Plus, lastly, get yourself a set of gauntlet style TIG gloves. Safety first.

Another, CZcams channel, either diesel, Creek or Farm craft 101, featured a robot arm that clamped to the piece of metal you are working on which held the plasma cutter tool. He used it to cut four perfect 6 inch circles to be welded onto a welding table legs as the base plates.

Its a good idea to have a small supply of "consumables" (the end pieces on the plasma torch) if you can get them. Looks good!
Ive seen one of their tig welders in operation and that looked good too.

If you didn't know they actually make tips that allow you to plasma gouge. It lets you gouge out a weld without blowing through. On that axle you could have just burned just the weld bead off and it saves on grinding a bunch of metal off.

I was a shipyard welder. Used Plasma Arc first about 40 years ago. If you use a guide and have a steady hand, you can make cuts that look like they were machined. I use it often to cut angle cuts in plate for welding prep. Also a plasma arc cuts thru heavily rusted metal where a gas torch just sputters and pops.

    Hi Kenny!
Coinkydinky, I received the Yes Welder Cut55-DS Pro plasma cutter on Friday. $60 coupon on Amazon so $198 or $199.
I’ve noticed consistent positive reviews on CZcams and Amazon.
Gave it to a coworker for a project he was working on and helped get it set up. He had never used one. A couple trial cuts then he let it rip.

  • @JeffinTD
    @JeffinTD Před 5 měsíci +1

Yeswelder makes some good stuff. When I was shopping, though, I eventually went Primeweld Cut-60. I doubt I’ll ever have a CNC table, but it has a blowback ITP torch and a CNC port… I believe it is also made in China (except the ITP torch I think is Italian) but apparently they have US support. Anyhoo a plasma cutter has been super handy.
P.S. that red wire is likely for high frequency start- that arcs to initiate the plasma. As opposed to scratch start, high frequency start can initiate the plasma without having to remove non-conductive coatings (paint or power coat) from the workpiece. Apparently the drawback is HF start may not play well with sensitive electronics (like a laptop running CNC). As I understand it anyway that’s the plus to a blowback system where air pressure moves a part in the torch to start the arc- without requiring conductivity to the workpiece or generating RF noise.
A good air dryer will extend the life of consumables. Along those lines, if you can’t start a cut from the edge of the material angling the torch when you pierce seems to reduce blowback into the torch so the consumables cut better longer.
    Enjoy the machine.

  • @user-rx7kw6ro6y

The only reason I've spent more on welders and hand plasma/gougers is simply consumables. Granted I work in engineering for the forestry sector and the bulk of my work involves fabrication, mechanicals is a hobby of mine (do a bit of it for work but it's not my main wheelhouse). Consumables don't last, especially in cheaper machines, and getting them is really important. I would stock up on them and have a few plano boxes full to prevent a headache later.... Especially if you discover that they have a unique fitment that doesn't accept industry standard consumables, and going to your local trade counter isn't an option.
Also if you can, upgrade that earth cable to a heavier duty one. Thin earth cables aren't great imo.
