This movie actually done way better than people expected. It was criticized a lot unfortunately before it was released because the marketing was absolutely horrible. Once again, Disney is sabotaging itself.

It's known as the Leidenfrost effect which is when water like Wade touches a hot surface like Ember which creates a layer of steam which acts like an insulator for Wade, preventing him from vaporizing and by extension, Ember from getting extinguished.
