bro all the videos you post are absolute gold. thank you for taking the time man!
Thank you Patrick! I’m trying to put out the content I wish was out there. Appreciate you checking the videos out 🤘
Everything I've seen of yours is pretty much on point, so whatever you do next I'm sure I'll find it useful.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Winston! 🤘
You’re videos are great, man. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, Julian 🙏
Just discovered your channel. And it's really helpful!!! Thanks for the great content!!!
Thank you Paco! 🤘
I’d like to see more videos expanding the use of the secret jazz chord. It’s such a great and useful concept. Also the secundal harmony video was fantastic. Maybe expanding on that concept with quartal harmony or other ideas. Thanks for all the great content Chase!✌🏼
Appreciate the thoughts and suggestions! Will do!
Magnificent lesson. Trust me. After thousands of hours and hundreds of books over the years, this is a gem. Bravo sir! Its a sub and a like "thank you" from me
Thank you Len! 🙏 New lessons every Saturday and always feel free to drop a comment or suggest a video topic! 🤘
Good lesson. Looks like a great room to chill out and practice also!
Thank you! It sure is 🤘
awesome very well explained...thanks for sharing this is very usefull to understand how Joe created his lines and how we can create ours for harmony and for 2-5-1
You're very welcome, Jair! 🤘
Can't believe I somehow missed this video, thanks so much! I love the first scarpeggios video, got so much out of it 👍🎸 thank you!
Haha especially since you requested a part 2 Scarpeggios video! You're welcome!
@@ChaseMaddox I am really grateful 🎸👍
.. Thank You for your insight.
🙏🙏
Great video Chase. Joe Pass is probably my biggest jazz influence. Love this stuff!
Thanks Ron! He’s a great influence of mine as well 👌
Fantastic, useful lines. Thanks for sharing these solid ideas. I've always have been stumped on what to play over the bridge section of " I've Got Rhythm" and many other bop tunes where the bridge cycles from the 3 dominant, to the 6 dominant, to the 2 dominant, to the five dominant. Key of BFlat: D7-G7-C7-F7. Coming up with lines that sound musical would be a lesson I'd like to see.
Thank you Robert! I can address this.
Can you please breakdown Joe’s Tarde performance at the University of Akron concert? Thank you!
TNX a lot
🙏🙏
1:01 Muchas GRACIAS!!! Excelente 👍!!!
De nada!
Great stuff Chase. I like how the third one, on A7alt, lays right up on the regular fingering for what would be fifth mode melodic minor, i.e. mixo b6. Actually, the fingering is why I even noticed. And it's actually handy, to think straight D melodic minor right through resolve to D tonic minor. Maybe on that following A7 in Stella 😉
Thanks! Yes indeed! 🙌
Fantastic lesson! Sorry if I ask 1 year later, but in the first example, over a Em7b5, which scale are you using?
CAL NEWPORT in the background! You’re the man Chase!
One of my favorite authors! Thanks Marco 🤘
I know the content is the point, but I would love to see a vid about your books! i know, stupid, but...I love books! (and Joe Pass!)
Haha I can do a quick video on my books! Got a ton to recommend! 👌
Love your instruction. I would like to attend your jazz blues class but I haven ´t received any notification yet. Let me know the timing. Thanks. I especially like to transcription of George Bensońs licks over Billie ´s Bounce. Thanks!!!
Thanks Robert! Glad you're enjoying the videos.
This vide is a gem, thank you very much for putting this together. Please have more on Joe Pass (and others) coming our way!
Thanks Dieter! Will do! Definitely check out my earlier “Scarpeggios” video if you haven’t yet, since that also goes into Joe Pass’ style 🤘
Mike Stern style licks. 🤞🙏👍👌🤟
🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘
How to decide what scales/arpeggios to use on chords? I’m stuck with major modes and basic arpeggios.
Can you give me an example of a song or progression where you’re feeling stuck with major modes? Then I can apply my suggestions to a song that will directly help you.
@@ChaseMaddox its Have you met miss jones?
thanks so much!
You need to go deeper , this kind of information is everywhere on the web. But more important, study the language !
Scales, modes and arpeggios are only a part of the big picture, you can get stuck with them no matter how much you know them. Btw i know what i am talking about, been studiying at Berklee decades ago, playing pro for decades also.
One more thing : Modal approach for bebop is definitly NOT appropriate ! Appropriate for postbop, provided you have a good control of what is going on before. Anyhow if one person tells you : "you should play this scale, mode or whatevever on this chord", you can be sure that it's just a f...g theorician or musicologist. Musicians never talk this way, because it's limitative. Just good for teachers to earn momey. I am not talking about Chase Maddox of course, but about others that are just promoting BS.
what is the model name of your Ibanez ?
Ibanez Artcore model
yoo can you tell us what it's like playing for musical theater? thanks!
Sure! What specifically do you have questions about?
@@ChaseMaddox nothing specific! just thought it was cool that you're doing Sister Act, and was curious about musician-centered performance vs actor-centered performance, what rehearsals are like, and also if your focus as a performer becomes less about the audience and more about whats on stage, etc
Can totally address all of that! I’ve done many musicals over the years.
@@ChaseMaddox Sick! Appreciate the content 💯
Just to tell you, the volume of your video is very low!
Thanks for the feedback! How does the volume compare to recent videos?
@@ChaseMaddox Well i just found your videos last week, so i just listened to the last few and they were all lacking in level, compared to other videos on youtube!
I’ll look into it! 👍
master your video's audio my dude our really quite and unclear......
Lol the video is a year old. Why would this be a helpful comment my dude?
@@ChaseMaddox Its not par with the standard video i turned up my device to its loudest setting and it was really quite still....there is a chance your message wont come across if people cant hear it...plus a year ago they had mastering a year a go....70 years ago.....just needs the level raising on your video before you stream it
Joe pass secrets ? ahaha you funny man and after , your friends will play the joe pass secrets ? to be a real musician what is it ? i hope these guys are real musicians ! lol ! but good luck if you wanna play like joe pass ahaha !
What on earth are you saying?
You can come up with all the fancy titles for this video and bullshit explanations you want for this, but the bottom line is that it just doesn't sound as good as what Wes did and woulda done with this. Joe Pass and Pat Martino were choppy and just didn't have as much raw talent, instinctual feel and most of all, as much soul as Wes. He smoked them both, combined, with no problem.
Lol no one is dissing Wes
@@ChaseMaddox no one said you were. I was just saying how Wes sounds better than both, combined. Especially Martino. His playing is choppy and DRY AF....
I’m with you on preferring Wes’s style to Pat Martino, but definitely know some people who prefer Joe Pass and Martino.
@@ChaseMaddox There is no explaining other people's (poor) taste. Wes smoked them both, especially Martino. He is amazingly dry. Just listen to his lines. I hate to say it, but he sucked.
U mad bro
