    Great repair and video! You don't slam people for working on their own consoles, when they make mistakes. Everyone is a beginner at some point. Thank you. 😀

    Nice fix Phil! I'm glad you didn't flame the prior repairer too hard. The fact is you make this work look rather easy, but to the person trying to give a go themselves they find out how hard it really is to execute properly.

      Absolutely mate. A lot of people lose focus and forget how hard it was for them while they were learning. If it was a professional I'd have a few words to say but knowing it's an amateur it's perfectly fine. The main thing is he gave it a go and gave up when he realised he was out of his depth. I for one can appreciate that :)

    To me the biggest thing is getting people to realize that the equipment to do this work at that level of precision is not something the average person will use enough to justify the purchase.
    A microscope, Hot air station, several irons, precision tweezers, solder, flux, braid, low melt solder, and you have done set fire to a grand at least.
    You still have to have skills with all the good equipment, but the level of expertise needed to properly do this work goes up exponentially when you have tools that are tools, but not up to the task at hand.
    And people wonder why it costs to get something fixed! Its expensive, that's why!!

    You should make vids comparing beginner tools to high end tools. Do two similar repairs but one uses expensive equipment the other cheap.

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r  Před rokem

      I'd love to but the problem is being able to offset the cost. Most videos make around £50 in revenue so I wouldn't really be able to justify spending several hundred on tools to make a video

    Are you aware if anyone has tried upgrading a retail Series X to 20GB of RAM? The RAM modules are different sizes which means some of the memory addresses are only accessible using a fraction of the memory bus. Even if the console wouldn't use more than 16GB of memory, it might make it use the whole 320-bit bus for the whole range.

    I still don't get why you won't switch to a £20-25 T12 soldering station like QUICKO for instance ;). We use it here, all my team and none complain. With an old laptop PSU you get almost 70W out of it and by being T12, it's a HUGE difference in a heat transfer. A no brainer choice for me ;). With 24V PSU, or bench power supply, you get over 70W on it ;).

    whats best type of solder to use on like pcb/motherboards/radio from car, leaded or lead free and is there a specific type for electronics like you said plumbers solder, im new to it all also how do you prevent headache from soldering

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r  Před rokem

      Leaded is best because it has a lower melting temperature and the solder won't oxidise as easily as lead free. It also doesn't crack under heat stress as often as lead free does

    Hello, I have a question that’s not relevant to this video, but I’m currently doing a ssd upgrade on an Xbox one x with a WD blue sa510 1tb. I’ve installed it and I’ve tried doing the offline system update with a flash drive many times and it fails once it says 1%. I’ve tried using 3 different flash drives and I’ve made sure the download on the flash drives are correct. If anyone could give any assistance that would be great.

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r  Před rokem

      If you are getting an error at 1% that would indicate it can't find the partitions it needs. Have you used the xbox partitioning tool to prep the hard drive before trying to install the software?

    • @RevHellscream
      @RevHellscream Před rokem

      @@TheCod3r I have not. I basically took the drive out of the box and installed it in the Xbox and watched some tutorials on CZcams on doing so. Do some drives already come with the partitions?

  • @Denjasaurus

    Question for you. I want to get an Xbox for my friends son who is seriously ill (not terminal) but is in and out of hospital. I can’t really afford a new one but I might try fixing a broken one. I’m not technically minded, is it something a newby could do??

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r  Před rokem

      It really depends on what tools you have available. For a lot of jobs you're going to need a soldering iron, hot air station and microscope. It's definitely not impossible though and with a bit of perseverance you'll do it :)
