Continuing on with the big spoilers, we have the scene from the game when Emmy's secret is revealed: the reason why she was Professor Layton's assistant in the first place, and boy, the scene is just epic to watch.
For many, it is surely a surprise, although to be honest, I speculated that this was Emmy's secret before this game was released, and I was shocked to see that my own prediction turned out to be true. Of course, you will need to watch the video to see what happens. - Hry
I was COMPLETELY blindsided by Emmy's betrayal. She was one of my favorite additions to the series, and I'm still kind of furious that I never suspected her for what she really was. Now so much from Last Specter makes sense: the suddenness of her appearance. Her forced charm and the way she expertly weaseled her way into Layton's circle of trust. Even her apparent fighting skill.
The games go out of their way to make the player like Emmy, too. The player feels betrayed as well.

The fact that she isn't present in the first 3 games already gave it away that something is up. She was either going to get killed off, or she was going to betray them. I had my doubts with them killing her off, so seeing it turn out to be a betrayal wasn't all that surprising.
You can see the pain on her face as they try to talk her out of it, it's so sad, yet so brilliant. It shows that she, no matter how much she may recall her goal, (hopefully) grew somewhat find of these characters that she travelled with...
Bronev got the pictures in Miracle Mask from Emmy. That is how I figured out she was with Targent.
Well when you play a Layton game you learn to spot these things. She did act a tiny bit suspicious in Layton 5
farlander99 Not only that, but if you look at Emmy and all of the Targent officers, they both wear very similar outfits, with the only primary difference being that Emmy wears a yellow uniform.
So that's why she's so obsessed with taking photos!!!

Emmy and Bronev's relationship is so interesting. She was really nervous when he was watching her and said he was "all she has in this world". It sounds like he raised her from a kid because she calls him "uncle", but it definitely doesn't seem like a loving family relationship (like Layton with Luke and Flora). I think he abused her. Lots of victims of abuse are really attached and loyal to their abusers and Emmy is so badass and defiant when she's not with Bronev. I might be wrong, but it seems possible. Any opinions?
it seems like a posibble theory but it might be too dark to be real, besides something else i dont get is how he took care of her if he worked for Targent, perhaps he saved her life and she had no family

I loved Emmy throughout the entire prequel trilogy, but after this part I just had Kylo Ren in my head scream "TRAITOR" over and over, and he's right.
The instant I met Sycamore I KNEW he was Descole. I instantly knew, I don't know why but I did.
But this? I never saw this plot twist coming at all.
Why you immediately knew Sycamore was Descole:
- The nose
- The unmistakable accent
- The skin color
- The hairstyle(those bread loafs would and do fit amazingly in Descole's outfit)
- Acting like Descole in every aspect except destroying the world and hating + knowing the layton gang
I knew Sycamore was Descole even before playing Azran. His appearance was shown to me in Layton shitposts n stuff, but I always felt like it was clear the two are one and the same. Didn't understand why everyone called Sycamore...Sycamore. Even thought it might've been a younger Descole and that Sycamore was his actual name(though that doesn't fit with the whole brothers thing...)
The fact he had the same butler was the dead giveaway
@@Detective.Horonigai If I recall correctly Sycamore is supposed to be Descole's actual legal identity after becoming an orphan (and then I guess getting adopted later I don't remember)

I cannot believe Emmy's evil
Despite attempting to murder Luke, she isn't all that evil. Shortly after this scene, after Layton and Descole team up and solve a puzzle to create a bridge in order to reach Luke on the other side of the cave, Luke reveals that Emmy is still on Layton's side. It then flashes back to a conversation Luke and Emmy had before she, Bronev, and Aurora left him behind, where Emmy sincerely apologizes to a crying Luke and says that she hopes Layton can make it on time and stop Bronev from sinking further into his madness.
i guess she wouldve had no choice, since her uncle would probably punish her if she didnt , Its obvious she still cares about Luke and the Professor, i doubt her relationship with her uncle is loving

Unlike many game villains, Emmy isn't entirely evil since she felt remorse about betraying Hershel and Luke.

Luke's American voice actor is... Umm... Err... Yeah... I think i'll stick to the European version.
I understand how you feel. Personally, I think his American voice actor fits him more in the original trilogy + this game because he is older, being 13 in the first three games and 12 in this one, while the UK voice actor fits him more in the first two games of the prequel trilogy + the movie because he is younger, being 10 in Last Specter and Eternal Diva, and 11 in Miracle Mask. Again, that's just my opinion.
ALERT.SPOILER ALERT IN THIS COMMENT. I think the voice is best at the end before Luke walks into the light beam. It just seems different from Luke's voice at this moment. Don't ya think?
Kitty Cat Yeah, I agree. Though I thought his death scream when he's getting killed by the beam of light could've been better. Other than that, I feel Luke's voice was pretty good throughout the ending.
Luke's English voice actor sounds like a chipmunk. I was furious when I discovered his lines weren't redubbed in the American version of Professor Layton vs. Phoenox Wright

The only thing that even just hinted at that outcome was a tiny little moment in the same game where Emmy kinda looked at Professor Layton weirdly. This was the only hint! Talk about not foreshadowing
Also, I can't forget the first or second cutscene from this game, in the Bostonius, I was paying attention to Emmy and saw her possibly glaring at Luke. Mayhaps it was my knowledge of Emmy's Betrayal prior to first playing the game, but it sure looked like a glare...
I'm happy to be Francophone! When I watch the English version, I feel that the sentences are much shorter compared to the French version! Is this normal?

We don't take betrayals in various media very lightly. Even in video games like this one and in *Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time* recently.

This came out of absolutely nowhere and it really pissed me off as a long time fan of the series.
In retrospect, there are very much clues throughout the prequels indicating that something was up with her

After that:
- Layton Brothers for iOS/Android - spin-off title that introduces Alfendi Layton (Hershel's son) and Lucy (friend of Katrielle)
- Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy (introduces Katrielle, Herschel's daughter and her crew)
- Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Kat's Mystery-Solving Files - 50 episode anime that hasn't been dubbed which has appearances from Professor Layton and Luke
However, considering Level-5 shutdown their NA branch, we most likely won't see any games, shows or even movies heading over here anytime soon. The last "Layton" game to be released in the West before the shutdown was Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy for the 3DS with the Deluxe Edition available for the Switch.

Playing through the entire first trilogy, and the first two games of the second one, none of the first 3 games even mentioned Emmy, so I expected her to betray the professor at the end of the game.

The reason you might be thinking that about Luke is because he is voiced by different actors in the US and UK versions. In the US version, he is voiced by Lani Minella, while in the UK version, he is voiced by Maria Darling. Professor Layton's voice actor is the same in both versions: Christopher Robin Miller voices him.
At first I really thought that she was with Targent... She was really suspicious by the first game she was in.... >.>

Why is no one talking about Luke's voiceactor
i feel like this was very forced. emmy is such a likeable character and so devoted to the professor, this didnt fit her character at all.
i wish we have had a scene with her meditating and maybe crying, alone, then the professor appears and asks her whats up, she comes up with an excuse, smiles, and walks away, still crying. the professor is left thinking. maybe give us a little bit of backstory as well, once we know shes a "bad guy". this would have made everything way more believable.
emmys reveal felt rushed and unfitting for the character. she deserved better.
