Good time to be off loading big plain cattle, hope you are happy with what you got! Brewers grains are a high protein source c. 24 to 28 percent depending on the production method but we get them tested every time we get a new source because then you know what you get from that distillery or brewery and it helps you put a value on it, our 3 main sources are 25 to 26 and about 27.5 percent dry matter, m.e. Of around 11.2 so they mix very well with either maize or beet ( high energy low protein) . I know you are not supposed to let kids into the cab of a tractor nowadays but I always put them in the cab with me around the yard based on the principle that it’s very hard to drive over them when they are in the cab , ( I was going to add a smart comment here but I didn’t think it was appropriate because I know many people who have lost kids to farm accidents and it’s a life long pain that they have to bear , some manage to get on with their lives but are haunted by the tragedy and others are not as fortunate either way I am just grateful that I personally have never had to deal with such a loss and it wasn’t that we did anything better or were more aware than those that did suffer such a tragedy we were just lucky because our kids were reared in the yard or the back of the jeep with the dogs , no baby seats, no seat belts, no seats for gods sake and in hindsight we were just a little bit more fortunate) . Regards from Ireland sorry for the ramble started to get sad thinking about this subject.

I 💯 % agree that's the perfect calving paddock and should be left as is
Yes I agree with you with the kids just because we did it all as kids farms are far more dangerous now with all the modern machinery I see so many kids on farms on social media where I think jeez the risk involved really isn't worth it.

Morning Charlett, just run through quad safety with a new member of staff, short video and new helmet for him👍 as part of our staff induction training.
In my experience, while in theory calving outside on one paddock might seem good it’ll turn into a hotbed of disease and bad bacteria rapidly unless you move that paddock around the farm.. it’ll cause you early lactation mastitis and scc issues.
No the beef are gone could you use those sheds as close up dry shed then a designated shed or part of a shed that would serve as a calving yard.
You’ll have more control over the environment and feed.
I generally feed hay to my close up calving cows with mag flakes and iodised salt, have pretty much zero calving problems but appreciate I’m spring block calving and different soil type, but our autumn units all now calve inside after years of battling calving paddock problems.
    Best wishes 👍

No need to let brewers go cold charlotte, dumped in the feeder and fed out, they are still fantastic for cows- only thing is a constant quantity each days, milking cows don't like irregular diets, as close as possible each day, minimising any changes you have to make, gradually, like swapping silages, putting fodder beet in, changing a protein straight?? Those close calvers with the stone trough, and the others will need some bulk if only straw if they have minimal grass access, you don't want cows with shrunk guts calving and risking left displaced adbos.
