    I still have 2 of the 2014 Mini's that I use for experimentation and as part of a cybersecurity lab running scans and other monitoring applications. They're pretty slow, but for security work they are fast enough and handle external storage very well, when I need to transfer large scan logs. The best feature for me is the remote management the I can run from a main console and look at both computers at the same time. I'm retired now and have dismantled my lab, so I'm looking to donate these to the local college.

    You're absolutely right with your choice for that purpose. I run an even older Mini as a home music server. It dual boots OSX occasionally, and Linux Mint (DE) most of the time, has alternative browsers in OSX which are still maintained, and is fully up to date in Mint. Best of all, it also plays CD's and DVD's when needed. Many Apple devices are seemingly indestructible, and I've even seen a G3 iMac DV being used in a workshop, recently, running Linux Debian 6 very comfortably.

    My 2014 MacBook Pro is still usable. It even runs Windows 10 under Parallels. I upgraded to an M2 Mini Pro recently so I could run Sonoma and the latest version of Teams but I will be keeping the MacBook when I need the portability. Back in my PC days I used to have to upgrade every four years.
    That said, the Mini Pro lets me get work done faster. It’s much better at videoconferencing where you have multiple applications open and need to switch between them a lot. The OS loads faster and I don’t have to remember to plug it in. And the desktop setup is more streamlined, not quite as much as it would be with an iMac but that’s a worthwhile trade off because I like to choose my peripherals.

    The fact that Apple has controlled every part that has gone to all of their machines, for decades, means there is less variability that needs to be considered regarding drivers etc. Because of that, you have a built-in "long-term support - LTS" - of the _hardware_ . That is why they last so long. Windows/intel/AMD is more of a "rolling" Systems environment. For audio recording, I always tell people to keep their old systems and unplug them from the freaking inter-web!

    Okay elephant in the room here. No doubt Apple products are optimized but Apple does have an issue. I bought the Mac Mini M1 a couple years ago and it was everything Apple said it was however the operating system to me seemed a little outdated. what do I mean by this. In windows I can open up multiple windows on one screen that automatically fit next to each other however, on Mac OS this was a very cumbersome thing to do you have to manually resize your windows. This was a big deal to me because I do audio recording and it frequently knocked me out of my workflow because things just did not work as smoothly like on Windows. Another problem Apple has is that for that price they're offerings are very slim 8 gigs of RAM 256 GB hard drives even 16 gigs and 512 it's a little outdated for 2023 the Baseline model should come with at least 16 gigs and a 1 TB SSD needless to say I went back to Windows I bought a used i-7 9700 maxed out the memory to 32 gigs put a 2 TB Drive SSD for my samples and a 512 GB SSD( all for under 450 by the way) for my boot Drive for audio I can hardly tell the performance difference between the M1 and this 9th gen Intel processor. However for video the mag does mop the floor with the i7 so that's why I'm keeping it for video editing only. I think both systems are great however if you want a better upgrade path without being robbed blind Windows is the way to go

    • @RajeyWajey
      @RajeyWajey  Před 8 měsíci

      This is not "such" an invalid point as you claim. This is known as the "Walled Garden" technique where controlling hardware and software combinations allows for better optimizations. There is a reason why most mainstream apps prefer iPhones, because there is only so many Finite combinations of devices to worry about. WIndows will certainly run on older devices as long as youre careful with the programs you load onto it to prevent it from bogging down (This is coming from a Lifetime WIndows user) Thank you for watching :)

    • @Minecraftzocker135
      @Minecraftzocker135 Před 8 měsíci

      @@RajeyWajey yes, the walled garden is a known technique for better optimisation, the console market is a great example of that.
      What a walled garden is not especially good at is longevity.
      The walled garden breaks down more and more with every single variation of a product it needs to support.
      Supporting 10 year old devices while also supporting every other device that has come out since is the nightmare of any walled garden.
      This is exactly where non specific optimisation has its strength.

      Not at all. Especially not for just daily tasks as explained. Simple web browsing and etc

    I got the M2 Mac Mini with the SSD dock under it for $500 CAD (360 USD). I installed all the cracked software programs, like PS, Davince, Office 2021... In Canada, I do not think I can get any 500CAD new PC this good. macOS is so smooth, I felt the m2 Mac mini is just more responsive than my RTX gaming PC in a magical way. I also got that 32GB ram RTX 3080 gaming PC for only 800 CAD. I can only buy used things now. They are too attractive for a cheap person like me.

      You mean another 6 years? Because this Mac had support 7 years after launch. Plus like many have mentioned there’s other use cases like Linux Mint and OpenCore

    Your audio is really bad, i.e. way too low. And the music makes the voice unhearable.

      I don’t recall having music play over my voice. But thank you for letting me know will try to fix it in the next video. Thanks for watching

      The audio is slightly rough but not a big deal. The content is great and everyone improves over time.

    That Mac Mini is already obsolete, do you really love your parents? I would not buy that in 2023.
