Getting 2 Green-cheek Conures, Same Time? Training Together?

  • If you are getting two green cheek Conyers, should you get them at the same time or first one and then the other later on? When you have two, do you train them together? Why or why not?
    I would get them together. When you do, they come in together as a flock. It doesn’t mean that they won’t bond with you, as long as you’re spending plenty of time with them. However, when it comes to training, one at a time! This is the way to keep their attention and make sure that you can train them until they learn some basics.

    This makes me feel so much better. I’ve often wondered about a friend for my GCC but now definitely see it wouldn’t have been a good idea. He’s been my buddy for six years. Have a Grey come live with us 14 months ago was hard on him. Thankfully she cannot fly so the are out at the same time but he’s always in the kitchen with me while she’s on her cage or play stand in the living room about 10 feet away. Boy are they jealous of each other!

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před 2 lety +1

      Hopefully with time, they will get more used to each other and it can take a lot of time. Yes, after six years your green cheek probably wouldn’t take to another green cheek right away, and won’t bond with The other in the same way, although they could bond.
      By the way, I hope you consider joining the membership. It’s six dollars a month and the “join” button is by my logo when you’re in the computer mode. Would love to have you there!

      We have a female conure 2 1/2 yrs. I would say she is a family bird as we are very lucky she loves us all and possibly my 10 yr old son the most. Would there be a jealousy issue to get another since we're a family and not just a single bonded person scenario?

    This is great advice. We are looking into one of 4 hand fed, 4 week old green cheeks. We have been visiting a lot trying to get a feel for them so we can make our decision as we were the first to put down a deposit therefore have the pick of the clutch. Well we are torn between 2 of them- a cinnamon and a pineapple. We are considering both. We both work full time and have 2 kiddos in elementary school. We love the idea of having them as each other's company while we are working. I do worry about getting opposite genders, for obvious reasons. We want to avoid that mating dynamic. They don't sex the babies unless I pay separate after we make our picks.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před 6 měsíci

      It's worth paying to have them sexed, if you are worried. However, if you DO NOT give them a place to nest (a nest box or a cozy or anything she can sit on and incubate) then they are unlikely to mate-- or at least not much.
      Otherwise, I'm so glad you are getting 2. You will find that they each go to a different human, which may be good if they each go to one of your kids. No one gets left out-- and they will be happy together while the kids are in school.
      I wouldn't worry about the genders, I'd pick the ones that I clicked with. If I was worried, I'd pay for the DNA. A little expensive, but worth it in the long-run.

      @ParrotBliss thank you for the response! Since I commented we ended up paying the breeder to get all 4 sexed. 3 girls and 1 boy so we went with 2 of the girls. Still about a week or so away from bringing them home. Can't wait!

    So glad I found this video. We just got a GCC less than a week ago and were on the fence about a second now or later since I’ll be back working full time at some point and birdie will do better with company. Birds liked each other instantly. First bird we got is way happier and bouncing all over the cage.

    Hi, what happened if you already have a young green check conure and like to get second?
    I wasn't sure if we can keep them that why we got one few months ago and I love to have second one.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You should! If you only got your green cheek, a few months ago, it’ll be easier for the new green cheek to adjust. You will have to put them in a new cage so that neither of them can claim it as their territory. The new cage will be new to both of them. If the new Conure is young, it probably won’t take long before you can put them in the same cage. Just make sure that they really get along and love each other before you leave them together alone. Congratulations! I think that’s a great idea. It’ll be good for you and your Conures!

    This is such a great video I do have a question . We bought two handfed pineapple conure babies 4 month old however for 2 months they weren’t handled. So at first I had them in the cage together but since I don’t know their sex I was afraid of mating down the road. So I did seperate them was that a mistake ? Should I have kept them together? Also they hate my hand even giving them treats, they will take treats and one of them will even let me pet after a little bit, but won’t step up. I feel the one freezes after a while and have to actually pick it with my hand and is fine. I honestly have no idea what I’m doing but one thing is I love them and want them to love me and won’t give up on them. Any advice would be amazing. January 1st will be 3 weeks since I’ve brought them home. Please help me !!

By time they were shipped to me, it seems like the breeder hasn’t done much handling with them.. they seem more scared of me.. once in a blue they do approach me when they feel like it.. but the birds would not wanna step up unless they flew to the floor.

    I had a conure and adopted two bonded pair and they are wild, they bite, they're messy, they attack my conure especially the male, the female not so much! There is no way I can separate them to train them individually because they still won't come to me and they are afraid! I don't know where and how to start!
