Into The PA Wilds - Day Two - "The Black Forest and a Tale of Tragedy"

- Day Two of my adventure in the PA Wilds began with a stop at Ole Bull State Park for a hike along the Beaver Haven Trail. This easy level trail begins in the campground, passes a wetland area, and follows along Kettle Creek. From there I made a short ascent to Castle Vista which was once intended to be the home of Norwegian violinist Ole Bornemann Bull in the 1850's. After soaking in the charm of Ole Bull I headed north on route 144 past several roadside vistas and arrived at the Austin Dam Memorial Park. Here, I took in the sight of the remnants of a concrete dam that was hastily and improperly built, and tragically failed in 1911 causing the deaths of atleast 78 people downstream.

Delightful, simply captivating and so nicely put together Walter! Birds chirping was so therapeutic in this episode 👏👏
Appreciate your kind words as always my friend. Lots of ambient nature sounds in the forest at this time of the year.
❤the violin music was a nice touch!😊❤
Thank you for this walter. Always worth the wait!
I never get tired of seeing the austin dam!!!😊❤❤❤❤
Im not sure what I was expecting with Austin Dam, but it is a very interesting place. Thanks as always for watching and your support Debbie!
❤I will always support you!❤😊
Pennsylvania and your excellent documentation of its beauty never cease to amaze me! Thanks for sharing!
So much to see out there, it's amazing. Im constantly learning about new places...
My kind of morning. Beautiful. Especially with Ole Bull playing the violin. Nice!👍🙂🙏🎻🎻🎻
I love a bit of fog and mist myself to add to the ambience of a hike!
Hard to beat those foggy mornings while out on the trail, enjoyed the history about ole bull state park, looking forward to exploring that park one day. Also I’ve really been enjoying your “long” transitions, little stuff like that really can make a film stand out. That mayapple shot was 👌🏼👌🏼I was able to visit Austin Dam a few years ago and that’s one place that just sticks in my mind, such a tragedy but you presented it perfectly. Great drone work, cya on the next one.
Thanks Bill, it is definitely a site that stands out. As for the transitions - I am always looking for ways to add in new wrinkles and twists to keep the audience attention. Happy hiking out there!
Wow Walter, wonderful video. The footage of Austin Dam is amazing. I loved the historical background and the accompanying music. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks Kathy, Austin Dam is quite the interesting site, with a sad history but one that is important to remember and be told. Thanks for coming along...
Ole Bull state park looked like a beautiful place and liked seeing the old cabin. The scale and size of the old austin dam is really impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing more from your PA Wilds adventure.
Ole Bull is really nice - quiet, peaceful, relaxing... Austin Dam is just one of those unique sites that are out there in Pennsylvania. So much to see out there...
Really cool video Walter I've always wanted to get up there to see the dam for the last couple of years thanks for showcasing it. I always look forward to seeing your production and I say production because it's not just a video you do an awesome job with all of your cinematography
THanks Tony I really appreciate that, especially coming from a talented innovative creator such as yourself!
Wow, that Dam had to of been wicked huge and cool to see in person! You sure had a big day checking out all those vistas too! I love how you talked about the different areas as you went, very well-done Walter!
Thanks Darcy, the dam is very interesting to look at. Its just hard to believe that it could burst open in such a way. And Ole Bull is a very nice spot too. A quiet campground pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
Oh man... that wetland looks awesome, and some trouty looking water for sure. That old Austin dam is really impressive and what a tragic story. What a magical morning... great information as always. Peace Brother
Thanks my friend, yes very good trout fishing in that region, some very famous streams for fly fishing. The Austin Dam is a tragedy, and one that was easily avoidable, but men are greedy....
Yeah. I went to Kettle Creak State Park, this weekend. Beautiful park. And yes, most of the activity there was fishing and kayaking.
Kettle Creek just feels remote. It's one of my favorite state parks...
Awesome 😊
Thank you Heidi!
Beautiful never get tire of see the northern Tier. Nice video 😁😁😎😎
Thank you Timber Ghost . Every time I get up that way I appreciate all of the wilderness and open space even more..
Do you ever get mistaken for Mobile Instinct out there on the trails? At first glance and at certain angles you guys look similar.
Can't say that I have ...
Very nice video. Hey don’t grow beard, you are a hottie without it, show those dimples when you smile.
😊 Thanks, I appreciate that! Now I'm blushing...
