The move drew an immediate rebuke from Israel. Its envoy to the UN, Gilad Erdan, delivered a fiery denunciation of the resolution and its backers before the vote, and fed pages of the UN charter into a shredder. Parts of the UN are already based in other countries like Switzerland. Reason why the UN general assembly set up in New York in 1945 was because rest of the world wanted US to pay largest part of funding and for the US to actually join the UN unlike the prior League of Nations which they stayed out off. As anything actually changed since 1945?USA still largest provider of funds for UN and if General Assembly relocated away from New York this could well cause Trump and other America 1st isolationists to withdraw the USA from the UN completely. US probably not bothered and just counts its saved tax dollars but others might be a bit concerned if this happened.
Honestly my guess is because it’s probably less likely to be attacked compared to other places when you look at the geography, but idk I’m just trying to think of a reason for it
