Greg Davies - Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast

- Bowl of Cheese
It’s a showdown battle of who is best, Richard or Hugh Jassburn - in book form at least, but Richard is keen to bring back one of his all time favourite guests: the magnificent beast and Master of Tasks that is Greg Davies.
They discuss schoolday soilings, dick-lifters, being related to a ghost, little Alex Horne, the exquisite pain of laughing when you’re not meant to, sex with teddies, the saddest of bachelor meals, the death of two fathers, the devastating surprise of ageing, what it takes to be in your fifties, the weirdest group of celebrities to gather at Buckingham Palace and the wondrous comedy of commitment to joyous stupidity. It’s eye-wateringly funny stuff with two childish old men who should know better.

For my own future reference:
18:25 - "Bowl of cheese"
38:23 - "Difficult wank"
"Challenging wank" (Jimmy Carr, Sean Lock) is funnier but, yeah, same idea.
Yeah I couldn't wank into a bowl of cheese and eat it
Seeing Greg Davies laugh, never fails to make me laugh.
Greg Favies
It’s hard to imagine anyone better to go up the pub with than Greg Davies.
I was thinking that too.
Not really, just think about any of your close friends or maybe a member of your family? Greg Davies would be a stranger.
Paul Mumford. Yes really, I have decades of pub experience and I can detect good company from 50 paces. You obviously have different pub experiences. I’ve had umpteen wild nights with strangers.
@@johngreenwood1972 Inspired by your rebuttal, I approached a perfect stranger in my local last night and proceeded to engage in what transpired to be a short conversation only to be met with a punch squarely to the face, thanks a lot :( . I was 60 (or sixty, in grown up text) paces away when first I initially chose them though so my mistake.
Paul Mumford Thanks to you I’ve seen the error of my ways. I shall never again attempt to be amused with strangers and I’ll certainly never get squiffy with Greg Davies. Thanks..
Never mind the brilliant stories, listening to these two laugh is just the tonic I needed. So good.
One of the few people who can make you laugh harder by laughing all the way through his own jokes.
“One of your ancestors is a ghost” is one of the stupidest and most wonderful lines, ever. (Around min. 45).
Pilkingtonian.
I love Richard Herring coming back as a cheeky, happy little ghost: and haunting Daisy May Cooper.
When Greg Davies performs it never feels like stand up comedy or even him telling jokes but he makes me laugh way more than most other comedians so it works, weird innit?
No
Its because it sounds natural because it is. Its just him telling real stories so it just works. Obviously you have to have the personality to make the story also sound funny, which he manages to.
he is delighted with his own stories
I've just shown my mum one of his "WILTY" episodes last night
She's a 62 year old German with reasonably good school+ English (the + being me, forcing her to watch films in English and coming to GB with me)
She got most of it right, had problems with Lee Mack (fair enough) but after Greg's "VEGETABLE!" story not only said "that's definitely how Austrians talk" (so..he CAN do impressions ;)) but also said, unprompted "what a great storyteller!"
Yup. Has great stories AND knows how to tell 'em
Just finished Greg's show in Hong Kong. Small 300 seater Indian Restaurant. Me and Mrs cried our eyes out with laughter. Got a fleeting chance to meet him at the end and mentioned his appearance above which was met
with an amusingly positive response. Support act was Barry Castagnola, who played the crowd brilliantly! Best night out in ages!
I used to go to a comedy club in Kingston 10 years ago where Barry was the host. Glad he's still around.
@@corbsalizer He was genuinely hilarious!
Wait, Greg did a show in HONG KONG?!??!?!?!!??!?!?!?!????!!!! Where the hell was I!
@@juliannechan7282 Yes indeed ... He did the You Magnificent Beast show in Tamarind, a tiny curry house over in the Sun Hung Kai centre in Wanchai. My mate got me and my better half tickets, but I don't think it was particularly aggressively promoted. I believe Greg knows one of the comedy promoters here in HK and had agreed to stop over on the way back from Australia to do the final showing of YMB. It was literally 200 (I said 300 originally, but looking back it must have been fewer) of us in a tiny dark restaurant with all the dining tables and chair pushed aside, and Greg about 3 metres away from me. A real honour, to be sure.
@@readventurekids Definitely under promoted (or did they actually promote it?!) I can't believe I've missed THE magnificent beast!! Given the mess we're in now I doubt such chance would come by again in the foreseeable future :(
Curry house is a most befitting venue though, we all know how Greg loves a curry HAHAHAA
Can we have a part three for Greg please? He's a national treasure.
Also he’s super sexy mmm
Please!!!
It's just the combination of having no filter, no reservations whatsoever when it comes to talking about his own, past humiliations, the humility, the GENUINE always cracking up over his own stories and...him looking like a fucking big ass silver/white fox😌😄
Yeah, there were four years between the first and second, so we're overdue a third. No way anyone would nominate Phil Wang as the worst ever TM contestant now (although I'm glad Greg apologised for his harsh treatment of Wang, as I got a vibe that he took a genuine dislike to him).
Both Greg's appearances have been absolute gold. Love it when Richard cracks up and sounds like they are having a right silly laugh together
Holy shit I love how candid Greg is about his stories. Its great comedy and I think so much of him for how he debases any sort of criticism of the reality of growing up.
Greg Davies is my favorite, nothing will get me in a reliably happier hood than watching Greg telling a story...
Them in 2018: " A lot of bad stuff has happened since 2014, when you were last on"
Me, watching in 2021 "Buckle up lads, the falling garbage fire hasn't even landed on the dynamite factory yet."
And it’s now 2023, I’m reading YOUR comment and thinking, oh dear, wait til you see what’s next! 😭
@@everso2151 In fairness I've become numb at this point 🤣
@@studentjohn yes I don’t remember a time so scary
3 years on and I’ve watched this 10 times. Makes me laugh every single time. Please bring him back!
I proper fancy that Greg Davies, he's a man mountain. If I was more motivated I'd drive a fishing trawler to that there Londinium and chuck a net out for him. Yes, many minoes would be sacrificed in the process but it'd be worth it to have a clamber about on the ever rising landscapes of my celebrity crush.
This was so eloquently put! I love this comment so much
You'd have to fight me for the price! He's just perfect 🥰
Yup I’m age appropriate and defo would too
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I usually just say I want to climb that tree but the way you put it is more poetic.
I can't believe I have just found these, I am crying laughing, brilliant.
Richard Herring is a top interviewer. We are so lucky!
Gregg Davies has the best stories, i hurt from laughing.
This is fantastic!! A footnote about Judge Rinder and Benedict Cumbernbatch, they were at school together and close friends bizarrely, Rinder was best man at his wedding!
Watching this on U.S. Election Night 2020, and this is genuinely the only thing preventing me from having a nervous breakdown.
@The new account Haters Loser!
Sorry about the results. It's a bit bitter sweet for comedy fans worldwide. Sure, Biden will offer up many opportunities to make jokes, but it's another big win for the PC brigade. Which means comedians will take another hit and be up for even more scrutiny.
I wont go into the economy and taxations and the state of the media and all the rest of it. I dont need to, we all know what's coming, but best of luck America.
@@shanustheanus oh look it's the fear brigade fear mongering right wing talking points - none of which have come true! Biden's the same as Trump! Nothing's changed, nothing will ever change and there's certainly not been any more "cultural Marxism" that conservatives were fear mongering so much... (Because there's no such thing!)
@@Cozsack there's no such thing as cultural Marxism? 😂 what? It's definitely a thing. Whether or not we get to see it is up for debate, but its a real concept my dude. As for Biden being the same as Trump and nothing changing? We both know that's not true. They're both inept lying old men that have no business being president, but that's where their similarities end.
@@shanustheanus Yeah exactly, it's a concept and that's it. If anyone can point to where Marx promoted cancel culture then please tell me. If anything what is deemed "cultural marxism" is a product of the free market, it's completely capitalist - companies deciding whether or not to hire or promote or fire people based on that person's standing with the greater populace. Is that not a cultural equivalent of Adam Smith's invisible hand? It's market forces determining people as products and if those products can't sell then they're shelved. "Cultural Marxism" is a phrase that's been created because marxism is a scary word that people misunderstand and you can chuck the label onto anything that is counter-culture to the traditional ideaologue of conservatism. There is no link between Marxism and Cultural Marxism apart from this idea that Marxism is inherently a philosophy of mob mentality where in actuality it's an economic critcism of the exploitation of labour.
Watching this in my car on a lunch break from work in the US, only about 9 minutes in and I am literally laughing so hard that tears are streaming down my face at Greg’s shit himself story! 😂 I believe my co-workers now think I’m insane!
me too, by myself though :P
This was the funniest guest appearance on RHLSTP ever. I was walking home listening, crying with laughter
Literally laughing
I imagine Davies using the "bowl-of-cheese" voice to say, "Umm, _actually_ Richard, Big Foot and Sasquatch are the same thing. You are thinking of the _Yeti_ that is not Bigfoot."
I was taking a drink at 46:08, and as a massive Wuthering Heights nerd, can confirm I just almost choked to death.
Greg Davies is one of the best guests Richard Herring has ever had. I've watched this interview on several occasions over the years, and each time I laugh so hard my stomach hurts. Please, Richard Herring, have Greg Davies back!
52:30 - one of the all-time best Emergency Questions ever. “Randy Bigfoot” 😂😂😂
52:27 "Would you rather be the face of a twin mostly absorbed in utero staring out the stomach of your otherwise regular twin, you are able to think independently and talk and pass comment on what they are up to and you can chat with them when they or you are lonely OR be the prisoner of a randy bigfoot who so far has treated you kindly enough but has a look in his eye?" Is such an insane but amazing question and I am going to ask everyone I know that
the wuthering heights part is probably my favourite thing of all time
I was really looking forward to this, but I felt there was no way it could be as good as the first one. Turned out it was better. I can't remember laughing as much at any other youtube video. Bravo.
It is obscene how much of a crush I have on Greg Davies.
Honestly, Greg is the funniest Man in British Comedy
REMINDSME OF THE SNOWAN FROM MONSTERS INC
i literally got tears in my eyes laughing at this, this was amazing
Greg is just so funny and genuine
Greg Davis....You are real and thats why us Brits love your humour....Thank you for making me laugh when life gets shit!
We're all real
I'm not.
The best story-teller, bar none.
7:53 made me laugh so much and I have no idea why, Rich's giggle making Greg giggle
the bit in the end - and by that I mean the whole last fucking 40 minutes - was so hilarious, I would literally pay for more. please do more.
Trying to get Greg back on. We cut quite a bit out of this show if I remember rightly, so always paying to see it live (or now you can live stream) and you will usually get more.
@@Herring1967 oh please do, that'd be brilliant. You're such an amazing host as well, just makes the banter flow easily :) Thanks for all the good work
I always listen to these at work at my desk and manage not to laugh out loud 80% of the time but for some reason I couldn't stop at this one.
It's really nice to see and hear people having a nice chat right now, I'm envious of the clarity, no lurch from buffering
What a gorgeous man! With the most beautiful smile and hilarious stories. This is me writing my first comment in CZcams and i am 32 fucking years old. First time crushing hard for a celebrity or a comedian for that matter. I will meet you soon Greg Davies, my magnificient beast!
Lol, I’ve a *massive* crush on Greg Davies, I think like you do, there’s many who think the same way 🤣
There's Greg Davies. Then there's Greg Davies in professor glasses with stubble 😍
I listen to podcasts every day for years and this one made me laugh the hardest.
Greg has such a great delivery style; very few tel a funny story better than he
I’m _screaming_ with laughter at some of these stories.
I watch these podcasts when I'm trying to sleep but can't.
Its 7:36am on a Thursday morning and I've not been to sleep yet...
I've already watched two others, so decided to put this one on again.
I hope I sleep at some point. I'm very tired 🙈
Just watched this now and was in tears. Could have listened for a few more hours. Love Richard's humour. Ordered his book thanks to this 🙂
It's like going back to the older shows.
Great stuff.
Pissed myself laughing throughout. A really enjoyable episode.
Hello from Seattle! Truly enjoy your podcasts, and the chemistry between you and Greg Davies is fantastic. Love the 💩 in 🛋 story!
This is gold.
ive watched many of these and this is up there with the funniest. good show!
This is absolutely fantastic from start to finish :)
38:29 That had me in stitches.
Another classic RHLSTP, thank you Richard.
Sleeping for seven hours without taking a piss is genuinely impressive.
Wonderful 😂 Wish it didn't have to end so soon
Only just watched this today and it's made my day 😂
Love Greg! So likeable and hilarious!!
This went from 0-100 very quickly with Greg's shart revelation. Great stuff
What makes that hilarious is the extra emphasis of Greg's tautology: "Filled my pants full of shit." 😆
It’s 2am and iv just watched the whole thing you gotta love Greg Davies
"bundling" was also a thing here in the Netherlands. Some farms even had special easily accesible bedrooms for the oldest daughter.
Funniest episode ever! I love that magnificent man mountain!
Favourite episode so far. The chemistry is great
Greg Davies is a funny man. One of my favourite RHLSTP's.
Crying here! Greg does it every time!
This is the only CZcams show that gives you free beer !
Brilliant story teller. My favourite comedian.
Too funny. Saw the Netflix stand up and didn't know about the cut material. Glad got to hear about the egg timer story here, cracked me up
I really love this episode.
When greg was telling the Buckingham Palace story i immediately thought that's the worst heist movie cast ever
I greg Davies is the best guest. Coz his sense of humour vibes with RH and it just gone places you could never imagine!
His "friend" is definitely Marek Larwood.
That is EXACTLY what i though!!!!
Marek Larwood was a teacher? In the 90's?
Why would you put that, when he's clearly gone to the extent of asking Richard to remove all mention of his name in the broadcast? I mean what kind of bellend are you?
Oh my stars, peed my pants laughing. “Not Finished”!!!!
Good one! Love Greg Davies. He is sooo funny!
I am dutch but there is nobody so funny in my country then greg davies ... and Ricky Gervais and bob mortimer and many more. I love the english humor. I was born in the wrong country 😄
Nothing funnier than two comics making each other laugh :D
One of the very best ones of these
Best birthday present ever, a new RHLSP with the one and only Greg Davies!
''A big foot that so far has treated you kindly enough'' hahaha crazy.
Aaaaaaaaaamazing! I am so excited to watch this and going to watch Greg Davies tomorrow night here in Hong Kong - can't wait! btw, have been watching the House of Games with you on, Rich. I can't believe you didn't get the Tim from the Office question. I can imagine your entire RHLSTP followers shouting the answer at the screen - hah! Also, found it very heart warming that Richard Osman got in a Brian Blessed question, but funny that he didn't get you to write the false book intro for it. Will you be getting Richard Osman on RHLSTP again any time soon? He's brilliant.
Why do I laugh so hard I cry Every time Greg Davies tells a story? No one else gets away with so much poo pee and wank kind of humour, but Greg for some reason... does...
Greg davies! That man could do whatever he wanted to me.
AM R I’ll fight you for him. Lol.
And me oh god he’s sexy
Wow, and he shat his pants ❗, classy ladies, my kind of girls ❓
👍🏻🍺😜🐾☯️👽👻💙🇬🇧
Maybe copraphilia is gaining popularity ❓👍🏻🍺😜🐾☯️👽👻💙🇬🇧
All day every day.
Time for part three!
Greg Davies is a sexy sexy beast.
a magnificent one, as well.
Yes, indeed!
Well, if incontinence turns you on, I guess he must be. He could be a wonderful spokesperson for Depends, couldn't he?
ok greg making fake profiles again to compliment yourself is getting old
I agree
Difficult wank.........The greatest 2 words ever in any podcast, fkin genius.....
this is up there czcams.com/video/Q65Uv9IawMc/video.htmlm7s
it's a rip off a Sean Lock line from cats does countdown
Massive funny intelligent bearded man of deliciousness Greg Davies
I HAVE to see Greg live....
That was a brilliant show from start to finish
I rewatch this regularly
This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I love Cuckoo also.
Woooo! Just finished watching Richard's dominant victory on Richard Osman's House of Games. I'm hoping for much boasting, and maybe a tiny bit of complaining that JB nearly lost it for him :P
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies was wonderful, had no idea Davies was in it.
17:53 is GOLD
Thank you, Herring
50:40 "Is that... gone to print?"
1.23.40 Who is Greg Favies?!
Greg Davies is so funny, lots of us love silly, it's the thing I look for in a man, everything else is just extra
16:15 the inflection and expression of this, I just feel it so hard
I don't have to watch this to know I'm giving it a thumbs up
trippinonbud Or two thumbs up. ... Like Richard’s ghost.
My jaw hurts from laughing at you two! Too damn funny.
You Hilarious Beast, Just two words. You gutted the room with two words.. Bravo Gregory Daniel, Bravo!
This is brilliant any way you look at it!! ----Cheers!-----
A long one! Amazing
