    Thanks for uploading this excellent lecture. Contrary to the negative comments, I really appreciate the inclusion of video of bvFTD patients. It's really difficult to understand what behavioral impairment looks like in someone who otherwise seems 'sharp', and written descriptions just don't do the trick. It's tremendously generous of the families to offer this footage so we can better understand their experience as caregivers.

    At this point I don't even need an MRI to know I'm suffering from FTD dementia.

    I found this particularly informative - my mom was diagnosed with FTD PPA after a brain scan and several mis-diognoses. It is helpful to understand what exactly is going on ...

    ~24:00 Can analysis of speech be automated to detect progressive aphasia? "Speak into the microphone": Out pops a diagnosis. iPhone could alert you if your texts/emails start showing symptoms! Very good presentation.

    Was that Eddie Vedder in your unit? Did he leave a check? T shirts? Fond memories for the ages at least?

    What happens if you treat with MCT oil or bathe the brain in ketones early in this disorder? Can you halt or slow the progression by switching out the brain's energy source? i.e., a ketogenic diet?

    This kinda reminds me of the DSM... is there any advantage to labeling someone with FTD vs using another 'diagnosis' (AD, svPPA, nfvPPA, lpvPPA, Pick's disease, etc)?

    What kind of stupid utube is this to show symptoms in a patient with character change in public ? They shouldn’t be showing and laughing about a terrible disease like this. They don’t know anything about the disease and are showing it Like a show of their work? What are they getting out of this? Show better results and know quickly better findings.

    • @NickanM
      @NickanM Před 5 lety +6

      It was filmed with the family's approval, to be shown after the patient/s had passed away. We need this to educate all forms of medical personnel. Without material like this, there wouldn't be any "better findings".
      This is extremely important for medical students who is going to specialize in geriatrics. Do you prefer care from peopme who doesn't recognize exactly what they are dealing with? It's really not shown on Dr Phil.

      My sister is experiencing aphasia and poor judgement and other symptoms. She lives many hundreds of miles away and we are connected only by phone. Her son and I are trying to find help to diagnose and hopefully slow the progress of her illness and are discovering resources for dementia diagnosis and treatment are almost nonexistent in her area.
      Videos like these are extremely helpful as guides in this struggle to help.
