From all that I've seen about this game, if I ever play it I'm going to have to kill most if not all of the companions as from what I've seen they make Noober or Tiax look like welcome party additions.
I'm waiting on more reviews though... lots of bug reports right now, and basic features are still missing, as noted in this video.

I was an early adopter of SSDs. I can't imagine using anything else at this point.
The one thing that seems to have gone unnoticed and Larian should be praised for, is the fact they developed completely different UI's for keyboard/mouse and controller use. They did the same for Divinity Original Sin 2 as well. I can't say I've noticed too many developers prepared to do that, Kojima could learn a thing or two from them.

@@johnryan3940 I do know it's coming to console, but it's rare for a game to have completely different UI's for different input devices or even different platforms for that matter, at least in my experience anyway, usually it's just remapping keys or buttons, but this is a total redesign, you'd be excused for thinking it was a different game. Look at Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain for example, it was made with a controller in mind, and you can't even use a mouse in the menu's and inventory, so colour me impressed.
The UI for the pc / keyboard is actually pretty better. The hot bar in DoS 2 was far superior..

@@charmingpeasant9834 That's how I take it, it's a shame we've gotten to a point where the devs can garner such praise for saying they won't have money grubbing micro-transactions (like a lot of games), but at the same time have more options and selections for your characters genitals than voices for that same character.
The same devs that shamed their playerbase for playing "boring" white male fighters.

I mean to be fair this is literally the one and only setting where it makes actual sense. Druids can morph into a fucking bear dude, some skinny white middle class American guy who wants to LARP as a lesbian isn't that big a stretch at that point. It's not actually out of the setting either "I cast a spell to turn into a beautiful woman" is the thing you can get in no other setting. Hence also finding more open degenerates like furries in this stuff, because like you can't have cyberpunk or space fantasy with some pretend cat woman thing.
mack using a self-aoe fire blast scroll instead of a projectile scroll sums up perfectly what co-op with mack is like. lmao
It was a wild magic surge that exploded fire onto him, the scroll did nothing essentially, you can even see the 'target is blocked' tooltip when he's hovering over the spider.
It's like he had a fire fart and he just says sorry guys a bit of back fire
also that's the game being lenient, that surge usually does a whole fireball's worth of damage and is known for wiping entire low level parties in an instant

I think I found the issue with my stuttering which happened every hour or so for a few seconds. I played a session today in 1440p and took off Vsync and it ran great, very smooth at 90fps, no stuttering at all. When I tried to capture footage it now gave a little stutter every now and then, again nothing major but it did stutter so I think it was more due to the capture than playing the game.

If trading works like in Divinity, it makes sense that only one person can interact with a trader at the same time, what if the shopkeeper has limited supply of each item including gold? Then it would just be constant yelling at each other that one player has bought out xy item that is no longer there, or the merchant ran out of gold. Taking turns is probably the only reasonable way to avoid these conflicts.
By the same virtue, what if the one person who is interacting with the merchant buys out everything you want and you can't do anything about it? Same sort of arguments would stir up. If people argue, it's just a party composition issue and you should probably find better friends to play with. It shouldn't really be the devs' responsibility to try and control that.
@@TheMartyandy The thing is that the shops should actively be updated ever purchase for all players. I can imagine that can create some serious complications.
I think most parties (at least the ones I did) in Divinity 2 would just nominate a banker who would interact and gain favour with merchants. Players would then send the items to that one character to sell.
The banker can inform the group what is in stock and purchase it with the combined group gold.

In group of 4 players you can just create 4 different characters and each have their own gear setups one uses light, other medium, one goes heavy armour and the 4th might be naked barbarian. Easily splitting the gear you recieve depending on type. weapons also have prficiency depending on your class/race so shouldn't be too much arguing between them. Diverse group is also best on the field when you can do a lot of different actions!
While my friend is buying from the trader . . . my rogue can pickpocket the trader at the same time. Its a perfect distraction. The other two players can go do something else . . . the party can split up.

Yea SSD's are now pretty cheap, and of course you can still partition 200G of a 1TB for the OS and the rest for a game drive, jam the games on that benefit the most.

Yeahhh warhammer 3 is straight up unplayable without an ssd. Tried playing a co op campaign with a friend on some ancient hdd and the loading was talking almost ten mins to get in each battle…

Loving the game so far. As a complete DnD noob, I decided to punish myself and be really strict with reloads on my first playthrough. Basically haven't manually reloaded at all, but I've made so many mistakes my party is falling apart lmao. 10/10 would recommend.
Thats how you play such a game ;) No save scumming, just deal with the consequences. After 24 Hours playtime my party exists of 2 from the "starting" companions. The rest left or died because of my decisions. And i love it xD
when I first played the early access I save scummed a bit (had a team wipe pretty early on and whenever things took a bad turn decided to start again) but in my current play through I've done the same and it's been quite fun even if it's not going "perfectly" :D seems a lot of my companions don't like me even when I'm trying to impress them too lmaO

I was trying to play that way too, but I did reload once when I accidentally hit someone in a village when I didn't mean to and they all came after me. I only reloaded that because it wasn't a choice error or anything. It was just a miss click.

WAB and any others who don't believe an ssd is worth it. A quick internet search and you can find a 1tb m.2 nvme ssd for roughly $50.

It's because I don't fall for marketing bullshit :) When I say a game runs bad you will notice it run bad for pretty much everyone else. I tested BG3 tonight in 1440p and got 90fps and it ran great, the stuttering turned out to be the video capturing, I also think it has a memory leak, when I just play like most people without capturing it ran great so SSD is not at all beneficial to me in BG3.

I haven't had an old fashinoed HDD for about 12 years. SSD is an absolute must, and should be the first thing you upgrade to on any PC rig. It's cheap too.

If it was a first or third person ARPG with well designed combat, amazing open world and exploration design, with the quality writing of the best CRPG's and with seriously toned down millennial writing you get these days then you would have a generation defining RPG. This is actually an inferior version of CRPG we get from time to time these days at least compared to true greats like Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment.

No. Baldur's Gate 2 was vastly superior in the player choice category and narrative. My point was that CRPGs have been around for quite a while and far better written ones than BG3 for that matter. BG3 is just a modern CRPG. Nothing more. Nothing less. I am just saying that if a RPG really wants to change something it needs to be a jack of all trades and at least come close to mastering just about everything it sets out to do and if an actual first person action RPG can do that, which to this day none have, then it can be considered a generation defining RPG. I can't help but laugh if you think BG3 has no equal in player choice and narrative. You should play Planescape Torment some time. Baldur's Gate 2 was vastly superior as well in those areas. And world building is better in certain open world games compared to isometric RPGs. And no I never thought or expected Baldur's Gate 3 to be Skyrim. That is just a silly thought. I was hoping it would be a great spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 but it is more like Divinity Original Sin 3 rather than Baldur's Gate 3.

when the major complaints in a review can be summed up to small inconveniences and 1 missing communication item that can be easily added, you know its a good game. throwing enemies at other enemies is how a barbarian do.
Their customization options suck, and unnecessarily so because they used customization tools to make the few presets they allow you. So why not make those same tools available to us? The answer is apparently because they didn't like the characters we make. Too "boring" whatever that means, as if that's any of their business.
Entire game is motion capped genius, how are you gonna mocap a face that's sculpted versus one that already rendered? Goes to show you don't know anything about how video games are made and that you're just another entitled gamer.

I haven't played BG3, but i do remember the old times in the old country playing BG1 multiplayer and i think the most time spent in those games was being told "you must gather your party before venturing forth"

The voiceover and the writing in this is just so good. There was one interaction with Astarion which would have been Oscar-worthy, had it been in a movie. His speech about not going back to SPOILER or something, IIRC. The emotion in his voice actually made me understand why Astarion is the way he is. Prior to that, he seemed flippant, casually cruel, and I disliked him. After that speech, I actually started to respect him and actively steer him to be less... well... evil. And it's rewarding how you can do that as well.
P.S. Though I guess you played all coop, so you probably missed that. LOL
He is my go to finisher , put some unique armor and spells and the right kind 0f blades along with long bow, this game is amazing with all the Different strategies , I’ve gotten pretty good at trapping the stronger enemies having them so confused and leaving traps in there paths.
I'm loving this, playing it on my PC (M.2 drives) and SteamDeck(SSD) and it's simply amazing!

@@pin00chI felt exactly the same when I saw his review for Divinity original sin 2. Everyone praises it, but it looks so dull and slow. There is no spectacle really. But I decided to give it a shot, and it ended up being one of my favorite games, and so far this is shaping up to be as good if not better. But of course it might not be the same for you.
As much as i love this game already knowing what you told us Mack, im not a big fan of "look from above" games myself. But will give it a go just to experience that freedom. But i would pay good money for a proper TPP RPG game, Gothic/Witcher style with that amount of deepness in it and details.
Running it on an HDD only means you'll have slightly longer loading screens and maybe some blurry textures right after those loading screens. The rest of the game is pretty much not affected as far as I could tell.
that's becoming less true, developers now expect the user to have a SSD so how game engines and developers load textures and scripts are designed for that much faster speed. You'll start to see more texture and bugs I suspect the text bug Mac experienced is a direct result of using a HDD.
This game (BG3) does have an option to allow the game to load into RAM if you're using a HDD instead of SSD which might solve a few of these bugs.
Confirm. If you have lots of RAM you don't even notice.
Some twenty years ago I fell in love with a game called "Divine Divinity", at the time it was called a Diablo clone, but in reality was far from it. A little brilliant 2D open world, far from perfect, but with a great personality and deliciously hand made.
After that I followed religiously everything made by Larian, and game after game it came Original Sin, a love letter to the original game, but enhanced in every way. Then OS2, a masterpiece.
This is the biggest project they have done so far, I can't wait to get my hands on it.
If there is a studio that deserved mainstream success it was definitely Larian.

The chat box not being there is becoming an industry-wide thing. Creative Assembly did the same with old Total War games. They do not want legal responsibility for anything said or done on hosted servers so they're leaving it to you to set it up through discord or whatever.

Just want to clarify my hard drive situation as so many are having a melt down lol. I have a 500 gig M.2 drive as C: which I use for my applications such as video editor as they really benefit from the speed, also booting up is almost instant. I have HDD WD Caviar black drives for gaming which runs all the latest AAA games fine, I ran BG3 tonight in 1440p at 90 fps no long loading times at all. I will run Starfield on the same drive and I bet it works fine, if not I will grab an SSD and drop it in, I have room for another drive or two and will designate my HDD for storage. SSD just shortens the time of load screens a little bit and reduces PC noise. Totally unnecesarry for games unless you play Rust every day. That's the only game that comes to mind where you actually save reasonable amount of time when joining a server.

I mean even 10 seconds shorter is a decent reduction when your just staring at a loading scree. It's a cheap upgrade and I've never seen someone argue that it's marketing bullshit. I just assumed it was accepted fact that ssds shorten loading times and on some games reduce stuttering

I was playing against some Goblins, I called in some backup with an ability and the Goblins surrendered!!! Started offering info in exchange for survival. I had 4 dialogue options but then another battle started because of a nearby Goblin.... So the cut scene ended but they all ran off!
I reloaded and tried again but they never surrendered again. I tried 3 times.
So it really is random.

Did you listen to the review? He gave evidence that Larian has been quite lazy indeed. They were too busy drawing penises and scripting ogre buttsecks scenes to put text chat in the game. And that wasn't the only basic thing missing.

@@conyo985 It's really not saying much to say BG3 is better than other modern games though. You can favorably compare a poop soufflé to other recent AAA games. The gaming industry has been largely garbage for a long time now.

But, there is no need to bring down BG3, if anything it's a reason to prop it up high and show how a game is supposed to be made. It's the same reason triple A studios tried bringing down Elden Ring. A good game should be praised, because if we don't, all of these other so called "industry standard leaders" aren't going to get the picture that we want games that are actually good. There is already industry leaders trying to bring this game down, telling gamers not to "expect BG3 to be the standard and to set the bar" as they classify this game as an anomaly and "unrealistic". When in reality, they classify it as an anomaly because the game didn't launch with 100's of issues, micro-transactions, and all the typical stuff you get from a "triple A" title nowadays.
@@SpeCifiC0507 I have zero loyalty to any studio and will give credit where credit is due. I do not see Larian as having deserved much credit.
While it's too soon to pass final judgement, as I (and pretty much everyone else) does not have all the info about this game that there is to know, there are definitely design decisions I think are very poor, bugs, and other things that lead me to think that this game will not be well remembered. But again, too soon to say with 100% certainty. While I know it means nothing to you, I do have a pretty good track record of predicting such things. There are telltale signs.
All that said. Even if Larian (or someone else) produces the most awesome game ever that will not positively influence the other 'AAA' title producing companies out there to make better games. They do not know how. They only know how to wring the consumer for money. This is true of all global corporations across all industries. You're wasting your time if you think you'll convince the likes of EA, Blizzard, et al to make a better game.
Ugly news for you.... Larian is in bed with two such evil companies: Hasbro and WotC. That's just one major reason I think this game is not going to be a classic like it's predecessors, nor positively influence the gaming industry. Unfortunately most of that industry has been bought up by the greedy. Hence it's so rare that anything good is ever released anymore, of any genre.

One thing I don't see many people talking about is the fact that none of your companions/friends characters can have any input in the conversations! Really sucks the fun out of dialogue when I have an entire party of characters vanish from existence during conversations and not being able to have any input.
Yes they can. I've had shadowheart and Astorian recommend that I do something in a conversation, talk amongst each other, etc.

This is something you'd automatically do in Dungeons and Dragons, so why isn't it an option here? Like it's deliberately done because it'd be very easy to implement.
Considering the amount of cutscenes, it's a shame you only have a few preset faces to choose from :(
And those preset faces are all the same for male and female and non binary lol which immediately begs the question, why bother putting "non binary" as an option lol
I think they used real motion capture for each face. It makes sense. You can't motion capture the types of abominations made in WWE or Chinese MMOs.
It makes the emotional value of your character much higher. They seem more genuine and a piece of the world.

It works great with a controller for wandering around and chatting to npc’s and it’s better with the mouse in combat.
So I am switching between the two as needed.
This is a very fair review. I love the game so far but yea there's definitely some bugs and some bad quality of life decisions

Not one bit pleased with the shite offering of full priced games, I don't count remakes as they are not new games they are old games, so aside from BG3 and maybe Hogwarts where are the great full priced games? I have had a load of great indie and AA games, well pleased with some of them so far, I just hope the remaining 5 months bring us so brilliant AAA games.

Yes, the issue with dialog in BG3 is that i don't think it was intended for more than one person. If you do single-player, you can change characters in the middle of their dialog cutscene to another character and be completely cut off from what is going on.
You can listen in on conversations and vote on what the person talking says, which they can entirely ignore of course. Got no gripes with dialog in coop.

Yeah. It's the only way I was ever able to "afford" the good weapons and armor. I can't pick up everything under the sun and sell it for 1g to try and afford enough to buy one piece that I want. Nope, I'm robbing that biznatch blind.

overall its a super good game - really.
the good things:
- really well done artstyle and visuals
- great work in terms of voice overs as mack said
- an amazing amount of races, classes, sub-classes and spells to choice from
- a implementation of the 5th edtion of Dungons & Dragons (with some homebrew rules) so good, that is a good way to learn the system
- orgin stories are interesting and offer cool adtions to the game
- (minor spoiler) playing as a paladin, if you as a player dont do good and lawful things you can be come a oathbreaker. Essentially you become someone that have joined "the dark side". What is super cool about this, is that it means you change your whole class just by your player actions (!) this is something that i have never seen in a game like this before, and really wish they do more of this for a definative edtion; like adding the hexblade for this.
- there are ways to upgrade and improve your character, besides the normal way of leveling up. Its closely connected to the main story in the game, but i will not spoil how :)
the things that could be better:
- who talks in dialogs is based on proximity, and only to a lesser extent player choice
Dialogs with NPCs are started by not the one that have the highest charisma, but the one that are closest to the NPC. This really not good for a game that focus on story and choice as this means that without your choice, it can be your super aggresive warror with zero people handling skills that have to try to persussade someone that is vital for your quest. Its problerly the largest weakneess of a very good game. Other games in the same genre handle this better: in Solasta: Crown of the magister, once a dialog is iniciated everyone in the party can join in and have their say . Even if the dialog is more scripted in that game, you do still have some choice in who says what. Larian have said that you can some times quit a dialog, and return with the one you want to do the talking, but its still not a good way of doing it. I hope they go back for a definiative edtion and implement a way of giving the players more choice in how is "leading" a dialog.
- there are are certain actions from dnd that are missing that games with a lesser budget have implemented well in their games: there is no Ready action (esseally overwatch for anyone that have played Xcom - its the abillity to use a action and attack a enemy if they come into attack range) The lacking of this is pretty huge for range classes like the ranger, as using the ready action to setup a attack on the enemy turn, can be a good way of defending the rest of the party and killing of the enemies. There is no dodge action either, which makes you more able to dodge enemy attacks for one turn.
- the trading system and the inventory is not always the best. But not for the same reasons as mack have said its. Its more that in divnity orginal sin 2, you had this system where you could add item to "wares" and wares was in a sub-menu you could find quick an easy. The good thing about it in divnity orginal sin 2 is how this made you able to transfer wares between characters. The greatest thing BG3 could learn from solasta, is having a system where a faction goes in and gets all the loot from a area from you in exchange for a little gold. This as a big quility of life feature, so you dont have to do the hassle of going backwards and forwards to sell all the stuff.
a big quality of life feature i would like to see: remind the player if they are about to cast a concentration spell, while they already have a concentration spell active!
concentration spell, is a spell that requrie so much focus and mental powers of the caster, that they can only have one active at a time. What the game could make more clear with a small pop up or a UI prompt, is a reminder if you cast another concentration spell, then it will cancel out the effect of the one already active. Even someone that have been a dungon master, done the Table top version of Dnd, i can forget this in the middle of battle.
But dont hold back if you dont know about all the rules of Dnd or falls into the critism of "oh this is just divninty orginal sin 3" or " i dont like turn-based game" - really, try it first! this is game of the year material!

Play it in easy mode and basically enjoy the story
It really isn’t.
The tutorials are ever present and detailed. Don’t feel bad about playing on easier modes, save scum to your hearts content, read every little thing.
I promise you, you will have a great time.
After trying it all I could think was "why play this extremely boring game instead of reading a book??"
dont think of this like "divinity" ,... this is straight up 5th edition dnd. once you understand the turnbased stuff, you are in for a wild rpg ride

You can transfer all items to one character before selling so no need to line up for the trader. Probably want the higest Charisma character selling everything anyway I think.
My biggest gripe so far, and only a minor one, is the dialogue camera and the silent protagonist. I think it looks stupid when the camera points to my character and he stands there like a mute, lips sewn shut. I don't mind the silent protagonist, and I understand why they did it, but just fix the camera to over the shoulder when my character speaks, same for cut scenes too I guess. I'll keep an eye out on the Nexus and keep my fingers crossed.
I don’t mind. My lad gas plenty of facial expressions, he grins or raises an eyebrow, that sort of thing, and voiced protagonists are awful and would be unfeasible in this game considering its reactivity
4 player coop?? That’s badass!!!
Also has the ability to do 2 player co-op one one PC with 1 copy of the game, only works with controllers though at present.

@@LCInfantry You can join others, just click multiplayer option loads of people in the list, you can also invite friends for a more private session, only tried it with 2 so far.

I think some of them are purely just for window-dressing... especially the genitals (0% impact on immersion in any way).
But i guess people like "choices" for whatever reason, and I'm okay with any ridiculous customization as long as it don't put the devs into a needless crunch.
I mean, the devs put long hours to implement all the detail which probably has 0-1% added immersion to the game (let say: Forza Horizon 5 house detailing, The Last of Us game filter, and of course Cyberpunk genital size).
If devs can prioritize their time into optimizing the game instead, why would they even bother on useless character customization? Oh wait, because player demand these kind of ridiculous things for whatever fucked up reason or just pure shenanigans.

Mack on trading with a group, me and my mates just sent everything to sell to whoever was talking to the trader and the rest of us just explored whichever hub we were in. Though ill admit, if you don't trust the people you are with to not put the group's needs over their own that could be a problem. Great video as always been waiting to see what you thought about the game!
We did the same, I was the mule due to my stats, I got the best prices. Still was a pain in the arse waiting for 4 people to see what was on sale and compare to others.

Only issue is that you can't send custom multiplayer characters to camp. They take up a slot permanently for some odd reason
