I did this tour in April of '24 and in no way were we rushed. The guides were great! There were probably 200 people around that had just dome the tour or were waiting to go in. We split into groups of 15 at about 5 minute intervals. The guides were very patient and they realize that it is a beautiful place and the line will back up. We ran into the back of the group ahead of us and the group behind us caught up to our group. It was all good and we moved thru at a reasonable pace. It's well worth the $80.00 you pay to see this!

The fact that folks are more concerned with getting that "perfect picture" than stopping to appreciate what they're experiencing is ridiculous. Some of my fondest memories of places I've been exist in my mind. They're mine, not everyone else's. You want that image you've got to have that experience.

These new videos are good and informational but i really miss your old motovlogs, and why i enjoy watching motovlogs is because it's not just the destination but the journey and all the struggles that you face to make it to the destination is really inspiring and i feel riding on a motorcycle connects you with the nature.Hope the motovlog viedos will be back soon.

I feel so fortunate to have gone in January 2003. Lower Antelope was so easy - just pay the lady, climb down and do what you want. My buddy and I stayed down there for hours doing photography, with tripods. We encountered maybe 10 other people passing through in all those hours. Upper Antelope required a tour guide to get us to the entrance down the dry riverbed. We were never rushed and allowed to explore at our own pace - and use tripods. After our tour time was up, the guide saw how into photography we were and said he’d be returning with another group later - and did we want to stay? Of course the answer was yes, though as I watched our only ride drive away I began to wonder if that was wise. He did come back as promised and we got photographs that still rank among my best today. For a nature lover, walking into Upper Antelope is like walking into a cathedral. I’m not sure which one I’d choose for photos if I only could do one. I’d say Lower Antelope because the terrain is more varied and it’s a little harder to get through (weeds out some of the tourists).

When we were kids in the late 60’s, we found the lower Antelope slot canyon. Once entering, there were 3 drops along the way through the narrow canyon, the first being about 8’ to 10’ straight down. Once you dropped in, there was no going back, you had to finish in order to climb out when the slot canyon opened up in a wash.

They also offer inexpensive boat tours of the bottom of Antelope Canyon out of Antelope Point Marina. The tour seems to be closed for now but might be worth looking into after things reopen. If you have your own boat (or kayak) the canyon opening is a mile southwest of the boat ramp and you can go a couple miles up the canyon depending on the water level. My family did this tour a couple years ago and everyone enjoyed it!

I started visiting Upper Antelope Canyon in the mid-1980s, when almost no one knew about it. Space over a following twenty years, I probably visited three more times. my first trip, you paid $15 to an old guy at the highway and you were on your own. Smart people hired a Najaho guide with a truck, since there is about 3 miles of sandy river bed to get to the canyon. Over the years, the tribe organized and monetized the process. My last trip, you could only go with an approved guide as part of a tour. If you wanted to do serious photography, you paid extra to usse a tripod, get a lot more time in-canyon, and to avoid tourist crowding. I have not been back in 20 years, frankly because I've shot the canyon with 35mm SLR, then a view camera, and finally a medium format SLR. Film photography is a bitch because of the extreme lighting problems. Digital is even more so I expect. Now, I am one of the lucky few who have been there, done that, to the point that I probably wouldn't go again, facing the increased crowds, restrictions and costs. The tribe has opened a new site, Canyon X, in the same area with similar features and with focus on the needs of photographers, so all is not lost to the new-comers. This video does not show what they mean by "crowds". Like of Times Square and add some stone walls.

Have to agree it's a place you do have to visit just because it is quite cool. But reading up about it before I at least knew what the experience was going to be like. Overpriced, busy and rushed. Luckily I had a nice guide who let me hang back to take photos - I just had to stay ahead of the following group. But still felt pretty rushed when I was wanting to take my time to try and get photos.

Antelope canyon (Upper, lower and canyon X are 3 of the different varieties, each with a plus and minus, and each a separate owner and entrance fee) are on private land so a tour and fee is required for each. Horseshoe bend viewing is publicly available, just park and walk in about 1/2 mile to it, and 1/2 mile walk back out. So there is some cost and hassle involved, but I still strongly encourage you to pick one and see it if you can. (PS they opened back up again in early July 2021 but still at present with a mask requirement).

@@luckistryke13 Lower Antelope is out of consideration with a 2 year old with, a lot of stairs/ladder type climbing, and any goofing around could be deadly. So I would recommend Canyon X for slower paced more leisurely tour & walking, or upper (about twice the cost per person, but also more famous). However, the above is MY advice (have been there and toured) but you need to call the tour companies and ask them about a 2 and 5 year old, they will let you know what they allow, so you won't show up and me disappointed.
