Let’s hope Sean gets to interview Glen Powell, his close personal friend whom he has now met, when Twisters releases next month! Not only that, but we can also hope that at the beginning at the interview, Glen says to Sean, “Well, thank you for interviewing me”. That would bring Sean’s interviews full circle!
Spoiler Warning
My girlfriend pointed out that wouldn't Glenn Powell driving his car and throwing finger tips out of the window been a great ending for this movie?
I was honestly waiting for SWAT to bust in the classroom at the end of the movie . I mean at the end of the day the lady did murder her husband for the insurance money 🤷♀️
It was an open end, maybe they leaving a room for a second movie if they ever consider making it
Yes to both comments. It seems like the guy they based this off was a real guy who probably wouldn’t do anything like that. I don’t understand being flippant about telling stories based on true events but adding in incongruous facts or aspects that are completely opposite of what really happened. Not to mention advocating murder as long as they’re jerks.
I actually just got done seeing it. I would place it near my top 10 of the year, I was really surprised by it. Tackled many different genres all to a good extent, and Glen Powell was really fun in it. It was way better than it should’ve been given it was right in streaming 😂
I really loved the blending of the different genres and just when you think one will take over and become the primary one, they throw you a curveball and demonstrate how they all work to create an amazing story. I continue to love that every time I see Glen Powell in a different project, he gives a uniquely captivating performance
I knw what you mean... You think she will betray him or had a plan.. Or he will give her up... Surprising ending
Watching it now. Really enjoyed it more than I thought . Glenn's a star.
lol what are you doing on CZcams, commenting on a video, while you’re actually watching a film?

It felt like a weird experience to watch, like it didn’t know what it wanted to be, and it had this dull emptiness to the scenes at times. I realised not having much of a soundtrack (most of the time there is no music or soundtrack) made the scenes feel a bit awkward. But it was fun enough to be enjoyable and I liked it overall. Definitley not one of the best of the year though.
So awesome you got to finally meet him!!
I love this movie! It's the first time I've seen Glen Powell, and I will definitely be looking for more of his movies. Adria Arjona was perfectly cast, charming and funny. I will see what other movies she is in as well. Both actors display a great sense of understated humor and are very entertaining.
I was surprised to read some reviews online that were taking the movie much too seriously! We do not always have to write as students of film production. The movie is not trying to be "Gone With The Wind" or "On The Waterfront." This movie is light and fun, a breath of fresh air. Now I will look for the Richard Linklater movies that I have missed.
Richard Linklater is one of my favorite filmmakers. I'm looking forward to this!
Guess you could say this is another *HIT* for Linklater.
Just thought I’d let you know I really appreciate your reviews. Keep up the great work you do!
I appreciate that!
This movie isn’t available on Netflix in my home country for some reason, but it will be released in theaters nationwide in two weeks. I’m confident that it will be more entertaining to see it in theaters.
Agreed! I’m jealous I can’t see it in theatres
Yeah it’s just a Netflix distribution deal. So I guess it only goes to certain markets.
I didn't know about the whole Netflix thing. Over here it released in theaters like a week ago and I just watched it yesterday.
This movie was fantastic. Since seeing him in Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some, Glen Powell has had it. He delivers in spades in this movie, makes it all the better he’s a fellow Texan! Great review as always Sean
Thanks so much for your review Sean.
I absolutely love Richard Linklater. In this movie, it deftly balances many different dramas, gave me a big smirk in many different scenes, and packed a thematic punch. I loved Hit Man.
There’s a massive pothole in this film that completely turned me off. How could they not see that it would be impossible for the police not to connect the fact that the boyfriend who was killed is the same guy who was in the diner!?!? What an awful detail to fuck up in the script. It completely destroys the story and it’s quite obvious. Someone please explain this to me.
It’s a plot hole not a pot hole.
because they made that part up. and yes it is ridiculous, ruined the whole thing.
Easily one of the best movies of the year. I should know - I saw Hit Man at New York FIlm Festival last year and it was one of my favorite films from LAST year too.
Nice shirt Sean.
Fun fact: In Spain it releases in theaters. I’m very lucky
Yes you are
1st half was decent, then it lost me
The love story made no sense to me. Gary was a decent man. Why would he be interested in a woman who was attracted to someone she thought killed people for a living? Just got worse from there. He went from nice guy to creepy killer. Total crap.
I also loved this movie. Especially for that ending that was my kind of twisted.
I enjoyed this one a lot. Glenn was a superstar always wanted him on the screen. Really fun especially when it's based on true events. Awesome for linklater ad well
Loved it!!! Two thumbs up!!
I love the 2008 hitman with timothy Olyphant.......
It was an enjoyable watch, but it left me so confused at the end because, at the end of the day, he definitely covered up a murder, as well as murdered a coworker😂 Also, his whole defense is “well nobody liked him” which just doesn’t work in real life😂
So sad this didn’t release on Netflix in my country today. Was really looking forward to it
Keep your eyes open for it. It's worth the wait ‼️👍
I definitely will!
nice review
I loved the movie it was fun!! Glen and Adria had awesome chemistry! ❤🎉😊
When the romance thing started and Gary played his Ron persona more often, I imagined it was going to be a Walter White to Heisenberg type transformation, where he started off a decent guy and turned into someone bad. While that was true, I think it failed pretty badly at the end, because it completely failed to deliver any sort of meaningful message, which would have been easy to utilize due to the theme of Id Ego and Super-Ego throughout the movie. If anything it tells you that if you give into the Id and only follow desire then you will turn out fine. It just really left a bad taste in my mouth when it ended after they killed 2 people and acted like it was a good thing.
Richard Linklater is my favorite director.
One of the best first half movies i've seen
One of the worst second halfs i've ever seen
i only watch parts of the second half. unbearable
Hey Sean, Great Review but the Green Lights give me Eye Strain
I don't why but the ending make me a emotional
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout it’s so awesome that you went to the same high school as Glen Powell, I think he’s one of today’s best actors honestly, and extremely underrated, I remember seeing him in Top Gun:Maverick as I wanna say he was Goose’s son but I might be incorrect about that it’s been a bit but, regardless that’s the first film I remember ever seeing him in and then he’s popped up in a few things since then and I really enjoy him as an actor so, I may have to check this out soon
Miles teller was Goose's son
Powell was Hangman
Me after putting my paycheck all on Red 8:28
It’s got a 98% on RT with Adria Arjona
Watched it last night
Absolutely enjoyed it
Top tier , would put it in the A tier for sure
Richard linklater has directed some of the BEST movies period
i loved the movie until the last 10 minutes ruined it for me
Why's that? (not asking to try to hate just genuinely want to hear your opinion more in depth)
@@ethanlivingood2168 I felt it was so weird that they killed Jasper and got away with it, then get married and have a son. I didn't think Gary's character would do something like and I expected Madison to get her comeuppance but there were no consequences.
@@guitargladiators Yeah I totally can see that point. The morals in this movie are definitely questionable and making the two protagonists murderers is a strange way to take them.
I can kind of understand why they did that though just because the movie is about how you can change to be the person you want to be and how people are capable of change. Hopefully the person you want to be isn't a murderer but I guess it was for Gary haha.
Love the detail at the end where it shows he even changed from a cat person to a dog person.
@@ethanlivingood2168 Thanks for sharing your POV. I think we all want to change in some way but not that extreme haha. The movie was hilarious with some charm like you said changing from a dog to a cat person. Just the ending made me question what did I just watch
@@guitargladiators Yeah I agree with that. It was a super sudden shift. Any ideas on what a better ending could have been?
It didn't make it to Netflix Canada :(
I really liked this movie but it was extremely slow for me. At one point I was like “when is the tension going to come”.
The tension didn’t come until what felt like the end of act 2 or start of act 3.
Fun film but the pacing was very slow. But excited to see more of Glen he has me wanting to see Twisters which I had 0 interest in lol. 😂
Will there be a Richard Linklater film ranking🤓
The ending is where it lost me. Very casual towards her killing people.
She killed people and he supported her doing it. It's a very dangerous message.
RIGHT!! I was like wtf so as long as you’re an attractive female you can get away with murder and drugging a cop
@@aaronheimberg6104 Yes, I agree. It’s very strange that no one is pointing that out.
This movie is great for people who are not critical of the stories they consume.
Haha sure
Spoilers maybe
I just watched it, and it is overhyped. Powell is good, Arjona is good( very sexy, dont watch with family) and the idea of do we have an exact identity is good, but there are big problems. Its a little too long imo, and the fact that its based on a true story i feel like blocks it from doing something really special with the plot. It just isnt as good as it was hyped, its not bad, theres a fun time, but 7/10 at most
just got done watching ..movie was actually pretty good
I loved this movie so much
Movie wasn't all that but great review.
There was a point in the movie that I thought the star of the movie was going to get arrested because essentially he became the murderers he put behind bars
Maybe it’s just me, but did this movie remind anyone else of fight club?
Why is not on Netflix Portugal is like the other one may December never hit Netflix Portugal is weird
This reminded me a lot of American Fiction but not quite as good
Netflix is better quality than what alot of studios has been putting out lately
I was really into this film until the massive plotholes began to emerge. First the minor one: In what world does the police hire college Professors to run undercover investigations on hit men for hire? And he's not a law enforcement agent? I ignored that plothole at first.
The major plothole: how could the undercover sting team look over the fact that the boyfriend in the diner is the same guy that was murdered by his girlfriend. This makes absolutely no sense that they couldn't connect the dots immediately once they find out the girlfriend's ex boyfriend was found shot dead. They didn't realize he was the same guy who was putting a it out on her? What is this shitty screenwriting assuming the audience wouldn't notice that obvious fact. Sad because I thought Linklater would be smarter than this. Sloppy work.
the first part is real didnt you watch the photos at the end. only the murder was made up
The warrant was sound only in the diner and the guy used a different name. So that was what I saw. lol
IMDB is saying this is an action movie. What genre is this?
Crime movie overall. Definitely not action. Some comedy but not enough where I'd describe it as a comedy
I answer this is in the review multiple times. But it's definitely not an action movie at all.
@@thepassionofthegoose5472 Recycled 90s romcom? What?
This movie was so good
Like Glen Powell (only reason I watched), but geez was it slllooooow. Not impressed. Also, they never addressed why one cat had a bandage on its rear leg. Also I find it absurd that his character addressed why he was not a dog person (they’re too needy) and yet ends up with dogs. And what happened to his cats? Too many holes, just became nonsense.
Your clearly a Richard Linklater virgin other then School of Rock.
is it just me or does sean look a bit like glen powell, alomost like they could be brothers! It could be a woody harrelson and matthew mcconaughey theory where some people think they could be brothers (also both from texas ). Also to go full circle, woody harrelson's father was a hitman!
Easy top 5 of the year
Wicked film
I liked it but think this "best of the year" talk is nonsense
Oh it’s definitely not best of the year imo, but comparing with everything else I’ve seen this year, I’d definitely place it higher for me
It’s not nonsense at all film is subjective and for me it’s one of two great movies I’ve seen this year out of 35 I’ve seen
@LukeSeleshanko The ‘art is subjective’ argument is so tired and lazy. Yes, the interpretation and enjoyment of art is largely subjective. But objectivity and criticism are still very needed. Otherwise all objectively lazily constructed art can just be excused by saying ‘it’s subjective’. Mediums like film or music can absolutely be broken down in terms of their construction and context. If you still choose to like it that’s up to you, but no it it’s not ALL subjective.
I need a bloody movie with no fking romance in it.
Yeah....that's not at all what this movie was ever intended to be
not meant for this movie. I just want some recommendations, some proper movies with little to no romance
The movie is great, don't get me wrong, but I'm more invested in Sean's relationship with Glen TBH.
It's like you're watching a the greatest friendship story arc unfold right before your eyes. I STOOD NEXT TO HIM AWKWARDLY FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES!!!
I’m having a hard time understanding how this film currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes?
I found it to be an average romantic comedy that failed to engage or make me laugh. 5/10.
Because Rotten Tomatoes uses a binary system that is flawed. 97% only means 97% of certified critics gave a fresh rating. A fresh rating can be a 6/10 or a 9/10. There's no nuance to that 97% on its own.
Well since the movie is only half a romantic comedy, 5/10 makes sense for that part. I enjoyed the crime thriller elements blended in also.
I just don’t get the hype for it to be honest.
That doesn't mean the system is flawed. You just have to interpret it for what it is.
It answers a very simple question, "What percentage of critics recommend the film?" That's a totally reasonable question to answer. And the system isn't flawed in answering the question.
BUT for some reason people don't understand that it's a binary system answering a simple question. I don't know how RT could fix this misunderstanding. At a certain point people are responsible to do basic research on what a score means.
so I was not the only one not laughing.
I saw this movie and it is just mediocre at best. There is no tension whatsoever and it is not a comedy either. It is just very weird.
Mid on All fronts
Mega Early
the part they made up transformed the story so horribly. Hated the main characters. they did the real person this was based on dirty. I did not see the chillest guy reflected at all.
Great movie, but if these 2 characters are supposed to be "good people " or ordinary citizens who are not criminals, or if they were not meant to be looked at as "anti heros" or vigilantes, then are we forgetting that these 2 characters just murdered 2 people, and got away with it, I mean something about that feels a little off.
It’s supposed to be partially dark comedy. It’s not supposed to be seen as a good thing.
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout Don't get me wrong, it was a fun ride, but the 2 unanswered murders is a little hard to ignore. I get what your saying though.
I was expecting to like this movie, but I didn’t. It started out promising but when it switched over to a “love” story, it tanked. I couldn’t get past the idea that the leading man would actually like a woman who 1. wanted to hire a hit man and 2. became interested in a man (Gary) whom she thought killed people for a living. That makes her a loser, regardless of how hot she is. And then she actually kills her husband herself and poisons the other fake hit man, Jasper. And then Gary kills Jasper! What? These people are awful. Gary Johnson started off as a decent man but became a total creep. Really disappointed. Surprised Linklater was involved with this .
yeah when awful people get away with it is not fun. unless it is a horror movie.
Great movie but not best of year
Super boring movie about nothing, nothing happens until the last 20 minutes and it's not much
Media literacy is dead
i saw this other day with my girlfriend and thought this was kind of boring tbh. this movie dragged on way too long
lol
I'm watching it right now and it's not that good.... I also dislike some of the humor...
Utter flop
Boring movie
Waste of Time
It’s was boring and forgettable. I was waiting for the movie to start 50 mins in, then I waiting for it to end
Most boring movie of 2024 so far.
Ok it wasnt just me. Extremely mid on almost all aspects.
Terrible movie, disjointed and felt like it didn't know where to go to land... I did not know what a self-loving narcissist Glen Powell is. Miserably bad, meaningless, empty movie from Glen's Powell's mind. This is a Glen Powell vanity movie to up-play and showcase himself thru meaningless sex scenes, his odd-ball impersonating abilities, and miserably poor scriptwriting abilities. This movie is for those who like the other raunchy, anti-humanity movies like Hangover etc. I will not watch another Glen Powell movie again. Hollywood actors are such hypocrites.
