    He's a genius of walking through the aspect of the business and still keeping his artistry. He's a cerebral musician.

    It's fascinating to hear the meaning behind every part of the song, especially the sax solo.

    This is amazing. I just recently got into this song, it gives me the Bohemian Rhapsody/Band On The Run vibes which there are sections within a song. Now this makes more senses! B Side Abbey Road is my absolute fav, standing next to B Side of Dark Side of the Moon

    It was McCartney's original intent to have those songs as a medley on Abbey Road. It wasn't George Martin assembling things at random to make them fit. But nice to hear Billy Joel talk about his creation, it is no less than a masterpiece.

    He put so much thought and creativity into his music that it's almost funny when he just does what every good musician does and just plays what "feels right" with no big philosophy or deeper meaning.

    Billy I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that😅 album.... You sing about oyster Bay The village greens greasers excetera excetera... Listening to that album does something it takes you into the characters and you can see it all going down as you sing it...😅 That's how it was when I heard that album over and over again in the basement with my best friend Ben and two girls from Long... We stayed in that basement drinking wine and cheese and playing that album over and over😅 again.... Thanks Billy...

    The thing that I admire the most in any kind of artist is the respect they have for their inspirations. I love how kind he is with Abbey road and everything he has done for keeping Beatlemania alive. 👏

    I’ve noticed in the song:
    “A bottle of red, a bottle of white”,,
    later in the song becomes
    “A bottle of reds, a bottle of whites”
    which made me think it went from a reference of different wines to a reference of different pills. I don’t know I could be wrong.

      Billy Joel has won a Gershwin Prize from the Library of Congress along with about only 15 or 16 other people so far. That's a big deal. He's a Legend.

    You can really see Billy's "frustration" with the fact that this interviewer had not done his research and had no idea how Billy did in fact come up with "Scenes ....". It's a well-know, common story and this guy clearly had no idea of the brilliant songs history as evidenced by Billy's facial mannerisms and body language.

      Pretty sure this is part of the EPK for The Stranger's 30th-anniversary edition release. He got asked and answered the stories behind all the songs from the Stranger because he was advertising just that, so I don't think he's annoyed cause he would've known what questions were coming XD

    • @JohnLutherable
      @JohnLutherable Před 3 lety +4

      part of a being a journalist is to ask questions the general public doesn't know in order to, you know, inform them. If everyone already knew all the answers we wouldn't be needin' questions, numbskull

      Well, he is a New Yorker they default to annoyed and frustrated, it is just how he looks when he is paying attention to something I do not think he personally had anything against the Interviewer.

    Can someone explain what he means by "drop the beat" here? Is he talking about at the end of the song? What's he mean by "rather than when you sing it?" Is he talking about some kind of instrumental version of the song?
