Scanners are my hobby, and ⅔ of the handheld scanners i have aquired that were not working had one thing in common...... battery corrosion.
Depending on the location, a tiny spot of corrosion can affect a scanner, so its important to not only remove the corrosion that is readily visable, but àlso the corrosion that is not easy to see.
Sometimes when batteries leak off the corrosion will run beyond the battery compartment and into the scanner itself, so if theres a lot of corrosion involved and you've cleaned what you can see and the radio still doesnt come on, remove the screws and carefully open it up to make sure the corrosion hasnt gone beyond the battery compartment.
Ive cleaned corrosion inside the case and even on the circuit board.
Ive had scanners with tons of corrosion that still worked, and ive had scanners with the smallest amount of corrosion that wouldn't even turn on.
    Location, location, location.

I need help with my pro-94 if you can help me. I've had this for about 20 years. Everything seems to be working well, but I don't hear anyone speaking like I used to as if it's obsolete or something. I used to have local fire, police, etc.

Could be one of two things one it has lost all the freq's for you local responders or they have all went digital encrypted which no one can hear those anymore. In my area all the major responders police fire etc have went digital encrypted, guess they don't want us know what they are doing even though we pay their salaries, but I do have some county and local sheriff that I can still hear. Go to broadcastify.com they will list all the freq. that are evaluable in your area...
