yes true, I disagree when people say Lata ji's voice is maa saraswati's voice, it's Vani ji !! She blocked Vani ji's way in bollywood. She herself admitted that there was a time when she wanted no singer better than her to exist in bollywood. She doesn't deserve all the respect that she got because if she wasn't so selfish others would have gotten chance too but to remain no. 1 in her prime time she threatened the music directors that if they'd contract with others she'd never work with them again, that's why there was a time when they only signed with Lata ji and her sister Asha ji.

Very versatile singer...Unfortunately she did not get much work in Bollywood...But she got her credit in the South..She was much sought out playback singer in South till '90s... She was bestowed with Padma Bhushan award in January 2023. She rightly deserves this award.

Am from Chennai. As a few rightly observed here no comparisons with Lataji. She is a great singer. Carnatic singers learn sing Meera and Hindi Bhajans for more than 60 years. Though due to politics denied Hindi we love Hindi songs. Vani ji can render even Shastriya Sangeet concert too though she never actually.
