I’m Off Grid in Hawaii... but I learn sooo much from watching you guys.... motivates me to keep trying new ideas and become more self reliant in this crazy Time!
Young people you created a little paradise over there! I could not imagine that you can grow such a different kinds of vegetables in Alaska! You are such a great couple in every possible way. Wishing you all the best for now and for the future!
You are so great together. Your lifestyle work because you both work together and respect/trust each other. Love the lifestyle!!!
Watching this makes me want to sell everything in the city and move to a remote place, but then i remember that I dont have an awesome partner/friend/lover like you guys do (and thats the most important part that I can see)
Just go smaller you don't have to have as much as they do. Go for it while your young enough DO IT NOW!
Do it man. She will find you when you least expect it. Another awesome couple to check out is Sailing La Vagabond.
My little sister says the same thing but she can't find a man who is tough enough, loving enough or dedicated enough to live this life style with her. 😊
Beautiful fall scenery, you guys have to be the healthiest best eating homesteaders on utube.😀🥕🥒🥬🧅🧄🍄🥦🍳🥗
"You could throw them like ninja stars.....BAP!!!" - Ya'll are too awsome.
A make shift roof for your hives will help a ton! I have a very similar set up, and always struggled with winter survival until recently. I also insulate in teh same way. Also, I took a piece of sheet metal that I can tie down over my two hives, at a slant so water flows off and away from the hives, and i haven't had any issues with moisture since. Highly recommend it.
My Favorite way to prepare Brussel sprouts is to half them into a cast iron pan, season with ground black pepper, Kosher salt, Garlic powder and olive oil. Roast in oven until there is a char on most leaves. They are awesome!
Love roasted Brussels sprouts. Cabbage is delicious roasted in cast iron too.
Great video! One real easy trick to help with the condensation! Raise the rear of the hive a little (3/4-1”). Then what condensation, if any, that does form on the top of the inside covers will run to the front, down and out of the entrance or through the screen bottom board. It won’t be dripping down on the cluster which is a death sentence in the winter no matter where you’re at. Good luck with it and keep up the great work!
You picked a good day to burn. Even the ashes add something to the soil. I sure hope your bees do well this winter - it is always so nice to see them in spring. I was so excited to see how well your brussels sprouts did! And your supper had me drooling of course. Love you two and really appreciate that you share your lives with us.
I'm not a fan of wasteful burning, the earth is suffering from climate change as it is.
Pea-tear Wingedlion oh please the reason for all the wild fires out west is because of tree hungers like you, now THATS wasteful burning!
Sorry. Tree-huggers have nothing to do with the wild fires. This has been caused, in large part, by poor federal land management and the unwillingness of the utility companies to upgrade their equipment and systems. Cost is tens of billions of $$s but worth it in the long term.
I live in the Bay Area and can attest to a major decline in air quality for about 8 million people. Scary to think of the long-term health affects.
BeckyP InCalifornia look up deborah tevaraz. Your wild fires are a combination of chemtrails falling to the ground and trees taking the barium/aluminum up in the root systems. Then add drought caused by weather warfare and direct energy weapons and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. It’s all planned and orchestrated and you guys are the lab rats.
The only climate change we have is purposeful and man made and it isn’t from so-called carbon emissions.
I’m hooked to this channel. I just love watching you guys working together and enjoying the fruits of your labor together.
I can't wait for the potato harvest!
@OrangeDiamond33 One could harvest potatoes now and they would be fresh, or one can go to the store and get potatoes that have been in storage for a year. Fresh and not sprayed with Round-Up or other pesticides is always best. This Idaho girl can get free potatoes and I still grow my own organically.
You guys have evolved into a cooking show, which is just amazing. I’d love to be your next door neighbor, and come to dinner. It’s truly amazing. I am wondering if either of you have any culinary training, or organic training. So, that is the second question for your Q and A that I have proposed. (The first, if you have been inundated and have forgotten is about Eric’s side arms. Why he wears a semi in some situations, and a revolver in others. I hope you can answer in the winter when things might be slower. I’d very much like to know the answers to both. Great! Love your work and dedication, so much. - Liam
I happened on to this sight by simple looking. I so totally enjoy watching this
Working and industrious couple.
I have watched Shawn James for months and he has nothing on you folks.
I love your hard work ethic and i have always said that you get what you work for and your reward is great.
I love shawn James but i am sooooooo glad i found you guys
I am 81 years old and a retired from pastoring. I pastored and preached for 50+ years and still preach many week ends.
Sure do love you kids and so much love watching your program.
You be blessed and highly favored of the Lord.
Living the high life. Thanks for taking us on your Alaskan adventures
You two are master gardeners, master chefs, and masters at living life at its fullest! Thank you for sharing and teaching all of us how to do the same. ♥️
You might want to use your favorite search engine to see what it takes to be a master chef. It's probably way harder than you know. Google or whatever you use and see how many cooking positions you have to master to become a Master Chef, These folks do seem to be highly competent in the kitchen, however you have to be tested and certified by the CIA(Culinary Institute of America) with a 10 day test at a Culinary School which you must pass. When I started Chefs training, there were only 12 Master Chefs in the entire United States, and they were all European. The first American born Master Chef was Certified in the 1970's, if my memory serves me well? No, I am not talking about the TV program, Master Chef, which is doubtful if any of the "winners" are actual Master Chefs. I am talking about Master Chefs certified by the American Culinary Federation. Google it. Is this too much info? Well I've worked as a Chef for over 40 years, so I may be a little too close to the subject. Sorry for the rant.
@@frankgerlach5059 , well, they are excellent chefs, then!!
I understand the frustration I must have caused you. I am sorry.
@@pullupullupullup4687 I think they are minimizing the food they have to bring in from outside sources, including herbs and spices. I love my spices and am all for using them extensively but I don’t think that’s part of their goal.
It so amazing to see how far u too have come at your homestead, I've been on vacation and I've missed your videos, from your knowledge to the superb drone shots of beautiful Alaska. Nice cranberry find indeed. I love your Salmon trip as well. Looking forward to the devil salve your making for pain relief. I always look forward to your videos. U both stay safe take care and always enjoy where your at, it's a blessing for sure.
I’m 82 and have never seen Brussels Sprouts grown. How wonderful. Love to eat them. You two are the best. Love parsnips.💕
Never did I think in the Alaskan winter there would be little mice awake and a threat to your tree's and bees. I thought everything hibernated in winter. @15:17 Ariel and Eric those Beetroot are Amazing. Love fresh beetroot grated with raw carrots yummy. Another brilliant video. Thank you from Australia x🐀🥕🥔🐝🐝🐝😇
I lived in the Scottish Highlands during part of my childhood. As I get older I get less nostalgic for those rapidly shortening days at this time of year as you begin to prepare yourself for winter (mentally and otherwise). Of course, the flip-side is the glory of almost perpetual daylight in summer, especially when you're a kid and can just step out into it no matter how late you stay up or how early you wake. But the winters are a heavy price to pay.
Long after I left the Highlands I had reason to spend a lot of time in Scandinavia - sometimes well up into the Arctic circle - on work-related trips, and it always felt a bit like going home. However, delving into the history and traditions of the people who have the deepest and longest connection to those latitudes in Europe, the Sami, leaves one with few illusions about the harsh and unforgiving realities of such geographies. If you equate an easy life with a good life, it's definitely not the place to be!
I've been binge watching your videos since I stumbled upon your channel two weeks ago. Such an inspiration. No merch, no clickbaits, just pure day to day homestead living. Next year I finally get a farm of my own, so looking forward to it. Nice to see gardening in cool climate. I've gotten so many ideas and tips how to and what to grow.
2 of my most favorites..parsnips and Brussel sprouts.. Fried with butter and bacon grease combo and alittle onion.. Until a little crispy and softened and then drizzeled with a balsamic glaze and sprinkled with bacon Oh my heavens.. perfection
Do you see yourselves living this way forever? This channel is so inspirational!
Yea! You put the sunrise, sunset times and the temps back on! I don't know why, but I like it!!
Those Brussel sprouts looked great! I didn’t realise they would grow on such a large stalk. Glad you were able to find the root for your salve. Those cranberries were beautiful. Good luck with the bees and orchard trees over the winter, I hope your hard work in protecting them pays off ☺️
Your story gives inspiration to those who are planning to live in rural. We would love to share this with our customers who bought vacant land from us and planning to live away from the city. They will surely get awesome ideas from your videos.
I freakin love that you put the date. So all of us southern folk can compare our surroundings , environment, and weather
Sprouts shredded and steamed and added to mashed potato with fried onion & garlic and layered with cheese and baked is delicious
All that work you guys did during summer in preparation for winter is now paying off... especially noticed while watching Eric light the fire in that refurbished wood stove ... nice work guys... love watching your adventures and admire your lifestyle
Loving the work you have done on the fireplace. I have the exact same owl trivet, smaller size. I love owls, and my happiness of you taking that little arboreal owl to the vet 💞
Fall is my favorite time of year, harvest season is such a rewarding period ...but it's also gives me a little melancholic feeling, like knowing times ahead will be a lot less nice.
So interesting to see this lifestyle!
You guys are the bees knees of off-grid living..
Those wraps look really good. Can’t wait to see this years food haul!
Great combination of music and drone footage! I love when you include the sunrise/sunset, date and temp information!
You guys get SO creative with your cooking-it's wonderful to see! The homestead is certainly coming along :)
That dinner looked awesome! Hunting season opens here in Florida for modern gun in November and I'm hopeful there will be venison in our freezer. Looks like those greens used as grape leaves turn out great. Thumbs up for you all even the chickens. 🙂
You all just leave me drooling! That dinner looks so good.
I have chanterelle mushroom envy. Gosh, that was a lot of lovely mushrooms you found Eric!
Seems like the brassicas do very well up in Alaska. Its a joy following your channel. Thanks for sharing.
Hi guys!! Everything you guys make is amazing!! Thanks for taking the time to film and upload for our pleasure! Thank you both for continuing to open y’all’s doors to your wonderful lifestyle 💗💗
Seeing your videos makes me miss Alaska so much! Living in Texas is great, but I can't wait to go back. Thanks for your awesome videos. They're really inspiring me to try to live a self sufficient life.
Oh man! I can almost smell that smoke in the cool air...brings back wonderful memories of country living in Arkansas!
The production behind these videos is getting so good (especially the drone footage) good job guys 🙂
Remember where those pallets were burnt or your SXS tires will find the nails. Great meal as always. Thanks for the video
Wow what beautiful brussel sprouts I love it when you show what your getting out of the garden ty.
You guys are amazing. Can't wait to see your new root cellar. Love how you both work together and enjoy what you do.
We were just talking about the plan for our bees this year. We do almost the very same as you do. Except with out the bottom shim. We also use a pillow case but put fiberglass insulation in it as a attic box. I havent made the candy boards yet but will do it next week and normally we will wrap them around the end of October. Its always a little sad putting them to bed for winter. Good luck with yours this winter
Why do I feel like this is the 1st time I've seen Eric without a hat? A handomsome noggin you have there, lad!
Love watching your vids , always brings a smile and a bit of joy to the day 💙
I luv to how kind u two r to each other!!!!!! True luv!!!!!
One of my favourite CZcams channels that I always learn a thing or two. Other than the mountains your terrain and plants is about the same as we have in northern Ontario, anyways I end up being very hungry watching your videos, you two Rock, Thanks!
Frederick Moller here in Killarney Ont our temps are often the same as theirs. Here it's zone 5b because of the La Cloche range.
You guys do such an amazing job at editing... Love this. Such great shots with music and whatnot.
Next year I am definitely going to plant Brussels! Amazing to see so much life being lived. Thanks for sharing it!
I love watching all the hard work y’all do homesteading. It’s so interesting! 🍁🍂
treat your bees for mites.
since you got new packages this year, there’s a good chance that they came with mites.
It’s one of crucial things to do for their survival.
Your opening, the scenery and the banjo, then the drums, that was beautiful -- like the opening of a great movie. Wow. Your dinner looked soooo good. In fact it looked so good, it is easy to forget how healthy it is. Thank you for sharing.
I love you two kids! You work so hard and just love living the old way of life together! Warmest greetings from Texas! ❤️
Sure hope your new wrapping of the bee hives works. I love how your picking all the left over garden stuff to use as much as you can before it freezes over. Your meals always look so good.
Your dog is hilarious. He is in the middle of the camera with the look of why are you guys bothering me. lol
Yaaay 😍 I have been waiting for a new one from you guys! What's on your to do-list before winter comes? 😊
We love your garden!!! We just started a garden this year after watching your channel!!! Fresh vegetable that you grow are the best!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
You two are an awesome couple! So ch great homesteaders!! The food is always spot on!! ❣️♥️❣️
Highlight of my weeeeek!!
Hi All, I really look forward to watching your videos. It's so interesting seeing how you prepare for the different seasons. Take care from Devon, England 🙂👍
Thank you for the new video and on my day off woohoo 🎉. Always enjoy your videos makes my week.
Bo reminds me of the dog (Nana ?)
in Peter Pan...Just making sure everone's doing ok!
Wouldn't it be good to make a smaller version of the wood shed over the bee hives to keep the rain/snow/moisture away?
Did you have much scrap left over from the wood shed?
Seems like now would be a good time to dig the holes & put the logs in the ground before it freezes again.
Yes great Idea!! That would help for being in alaska!!! I'm from Pennsylvania 🐝🐝 love my Bees
More folks should keep bees. It would do wonders for the environment and hopefully allow the bee population to thrive again.
Enjoy your harvesting, and then your meal preparations. I salivate every time, almost smelling the essence of your cooking. But, you both work so hard - take a load off; sit down, relax, and enjoy your meals, and reflect on your amazing fruits of labor. You got it! You guys rock!
I so enjoy your videos. They’re great! So many interesting things to do & learn :-) & I love seeing the faithful companions just liking to chill along with you too. Such a healthy life in tune with nature!
Que imagens lindas de lugares lindos, parabéns ótimo trabalho amigos, legal,
Hi Arielle! Hope you can also do a video about homesteading and off grid living as a woman, like how you deal with feminine products and things like that. Hope you two have a great week :)
Wow, talk about a bountiful harvest. That was some nice looking dinner, and I am in awe of your Brussel sprouts.
I love your channel. I've been watching your videos from the beginning. You guys are a complete inspiration to me. Thank you so much for sharing your life and your adventures.
I really need to step up my game....
You guys have done a lot this year it's awesome seeing you guys work together
You both have such an amazing relationship. Thank you for showing us it is possible.
On the show ALASKA’S LAST FRONTIER, they wrap quilts around their bee hives for the winter
@@OrangeDiamond33 Insulating a hive is a great idea. Either with bought 'bee cozys' or improvised. Anything to reduce the heat loss will reduce their honey consumption, which means less water being released into the hive and water/cold combination kills bees.
Gonna GetYa Since bees are insects and produce no heat whatsoever I’m curious what heat you’re preventing them from losing.
@@OrangeDiamond33 I know that bumble bees are able to thermoregulate/generate their own heat which allows them to functions at temps other insects can't. I think honey bees may bee the same. (ref Bernard Heinrich "In a patch of fireweed")
When I first saw the title I thought oh no someone fell and hurt themselves then I started to watch the video and realized you ment the season fall glad I was wrong.
me too but then I thought it was because Im from Australia but am pleased when I realized it was a season rather than an actual "fall"- lol
Love the view that you gave. So charming and relaxing. May god be with us always.
The chickens love the brussel sprout leaves, but you could steam/saute them with garlic for yourselves~SO good!
Alright. Just stop. Make enough dinner for all of us or none at all. I could taste the moose meat wrap filling from here.
I want their version of 2020....😕
Beautiful autumn! Colours, mist, sphere. Love it all the way! I just want to breath in that whole scenery. And also: your food = good. The most diverse cooking I have ever seen. You guys know I love you!! 🧚♀️🍁🍂❤
Epic drone footage! What a gloriously beautiful place to live.
Just finished eating but got hungry again! Cheesy brussel sprouts and wraps looked soooo good. Love the variety of your food growing, hunting, fishing and scavaging ... and your tasty looking recipes.
"I'm adding some half n half bc i'm melting some mozzarella in"
me: damnit home girl i'm gona go slap my mama, that sounds so good!!!!!
"Salve" is pronounced "sav", kiddos.
It depends where you from, he pronounced it ok to me that’s what we call it in the UK lol everyone is different
Yeah I didn't know what they were talking about until he defined the word. It's 'sav' in my dictionary too!
@@llamafromspace That is so weird who knew lol. I've never heard it pronounced that way.
No it’s not. Very dependant on where you are from. SaLve here in australia
This reminds of what it was like growing up. Now I have a garden far away from my apartment but still, we spent all sumer eating greens. It was awsome.
You two have come a long way since I started following you. Thank you for sharing.
Not to be too critical, but salve is pronounced "sav" or "sahv". no L. I still really like your videos though. :)
I looked it up... As I thought you were correct... But apparently either pronunciation is correct.
I just went to dictionary.com. Not a big deal folks. Just an observation. I didn’t see that salve was correct. You two are very hard-working individuals. Keep up the great videos.
@@jenniferr2057 My Oxford, Cambridge and Google dictionaries all say Salv ( with a hard v) as the correct pronunciation
I love the commentary! “Classic me and you, got a lot of screws hanging out” I can relate.
You two are so talented in every way. Such hard workers. Your food always looks amazing!!
Love the beautiful pictures of the Alaskan countryside.
Enjoy watching. I like your garden and what you do with the produce.
Thank you for such quality content. I always look forward to what you two are up to next. Best wishes for a safe winter.
Absolutely love you guys and as a person who loves the outdoors, its great that you guys complement each others lifestyle so well. Real life Bonnie and Clyde. You guys have me hooked now.
We so enjoy watching you two kids. Your garden is awesome, you tow definitely have green thumbs. Your are a great team together. Thank you for sharing Alaska and your lives with us. We are from the lower 48, in Mid Missouri.
I just wanted to let you two know that I think it's really cool that you include the sunrise/sunset and temps for the day in your videos. It's interesting to see the difference from your place and where I am in Michigan.
