  • This was my first year ever growing a Thai Pepper. There are quite a few varieties of "Thai Pepper," and this one is simply the variety that I happened to have seeds for. In this video, I show off a handful of plants, give you a good look at how productive they are, and even munch on one to check to out how spicy they are. If you are interested in seeds, please let me know in the comment section as I hope to have some listed in our Etsy shop soon. Enjoy the video!

I brought 5 plants inside to overwinter them. Took all the fruit and leaves off to help them go dormant, but they just carried on growing with tons of buds now in February. I'm just letting them do what they want so long as I they stay alive. Come spring time they should start fruiting right away without waiting until the summer to harvest. It's more than I can ever consume even on one plant, but fun to grow.

i been on thai peppers strictly lately , I was dealing with acid reflux , started eating these daily , gone within a week , that wasn't why i began eating them but its a great bonus , i am enjoying these a lot and plan to look into using them to make custom spices , oils and much more , many health benefits with peppers.

When I was a teenager my friends Dad brought back Thai pepper seeds from Thailand where he had been stationed.
Small, flavorful but potent. I need to grow some this coming spring. My wife would enjoy them also.

Agreed. I use them both green and red. More green for flavor with less heat. More red for more heat. They are just right for me. I use a ton of them because I love making Thai food.

I have gown these a lot, it's just a great hot pepper plant that will grow just fine indoors under a grow light. I told the Grandkids that I thought they were about 500,000 SVU when they are red and I like dehydrating, vacuum sealing and also making chili powder out of them. I have grown the Ghost Peppers and if u ask me they are about half as hot and i may have exaggerated a bit, but they are hot. =)

I'm in zone 8b. I've only had a few mature ones so far, but they seem almost as hot as my ghost peppers. I plan on picking all the green ones to eat, and topping the plant so it bushes out a bit more.

I've eaten a whole one of these, and a whole habenero (minus the tip, only had one and a friend wanted to try a little), and I would agree. About 1/3 a habenero in heat. Btw a good way to get rid of heat both in your mouth, and stomach, is WHOLE MILK greek yogurt. stomach was starting to hurt a bit from the habenero, but eating a big bowl of green yogurt totally got rid of it. Ate some more afterwards just to be safe, and glad to report no spicy poo at all.

My Dad loved to grow peppers on the patio. He’d usually grow banana peppers because Mom liked them, but he’d also grow what I now think was cayenne peppers. He’d pick them green to eat with the fresh veggies Mom would buy from the local farmers market. Mom wouldn’t eat them. One summer evening Mom had cooked a great meal with lots of fresh veggies and Dad went outside and got a pepper, washed it and sliced it long way and removed the seeds and veins and was cutting it up to eat. He kept talking about how mild the pepper was and how Mom should eat a piece with her dinner. I was sitting next to Dad and could see the beads of sweat on his upper lip, but Mom couldn’t. He wiped his mouth with a napkin as Mom came to his end of the table to get some of the pepper. The kids all watched in anticipation as Mom put the first bite in her mouth and she turned beet red and started yelling about how she was gonna kill Dad for pranking her like that. She had jumped up to grab a glass of water and we were all yelling at her to get milk or eat a piece of bread instead. She never trusted him with peppers again. That had to be 50 years ago at least. I might have been around 8-10 years old. I never have been much of a pepper fan. Mom would make stuffed green bell peppers and I’d eat the filling and leave the pepper. She always had extra filling for me, but I wanted what had been cooked in the pepper. She’d try to restuff the cooked pepper when we had leftovers. I don’t know why she bothered because it usually got turned into spaghetti sauce anyway.

these are called "Prik Ki Nu" peppers in thai - the big ones that you are talking about are probably "Prik Chee Fa". there are a ton others but having those 2 are the "standards" that will cover the vast majority of thai cooking . at markets in thailand , there are huge barrels of both of them. the big ones aren't that spicy and are kind of just used as a vegetable. the small ones control the heat.

nicely done video. I made some of these over a year ago (thai hots they were labeled as) growing season around here is say April - October. My question is with year old dried out guys - Do I just start soaking the seeds on papertowels in little 2oz cups and keep at 80-90 and wait to see if they start to sprout. I could just buy small plants like I did that year. They were only a couple bucks a pop but I'm bored and if I can start from just seeds, I might as well. Mine also made large batches of like a hundred or so per plant. But I don't cook with them so much. I may grind up a bunch...
