  • After an ACL Reconstruction, you start the first phase of rehabilitation. The exercises in the video are general guidelines. Every patient/athlete gets a rehabilitation program suited to their needs by their physical therapist. A torn ACL is an unwanted injury to any active person or athlete. However, you can get back to being better than you were before by starting with these small, yet effective, exercises.

    You can do the heel raise and mini squat this early in rehab? That single leg one looks super challenging immediately post op

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před 24 dny

      There are no restrictions with heel raises or mini squats with ACL reconstruction. Single leg stance is difficult and would be more towards the end of phase one. Can perform in the brace to become more comfortable initially.

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can start these exercises! Remember complete ACL tears do not heal and untreated can lead to early arthritic changes. I would recommend an Ortho consult in this case.

    Hello uploader at The Orthopaedic Institute of Western Kentucky, I was watching this video and I couldn't help but notice the absolute dime piece that is your ACL patient in this video. By chance could you reach out to me and provide me the cellular digits of this fine young women. Only if she is over the age of 18, of course. Thank you for the time, my ACL's are doing great. Hope to hear back from you soon. -Jordan

    Hi, I just had an ACL reconstruction and meniscus tissue tear repair 5 days ago. Is it too soon to start these exercises? I can contract my quads but cannot do the leg raise.

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před 2 lety +2

      No it is not. You can start these immediately post surgery. The only difference is with a meniscus repair your MD will limit flexion and your weight bearing status may be different. So you need to know your physician-specific restrictions and follow those.

      Hi, thank you for responding. It's been 9 mths since my ACL surgery. I can jog but feel a bit of pain whilst going down hill. I cannot squat or fully bend my knee. There's still discomfort whilst walking up or down stairs. Is there any hope of being able to fully flex my knee or squat again?

    Can you suggest recovery for bucket handle is it mandatory surgery tear

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před 2 lety

      Not mandatory, but from my experience you will eventually probably need surgery. Recovery depends on repair vs. meniscectomy. Once your surgeon makes this call the rehab protocol will follow.

    can acl grade 1 sprain heal on its own..i have chondromalacia grade 1 too can u giveme some advices or things i should do

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před 2 lety

      Grade 1 ACL would have no laxity and should return to normal in 4-6 weeks. The key with a grade 1 sprain would be to work on quadricep strength initially ,because there will be some quadriceps inhibition with the swelling that may result from a Grade 1 sprain.

    How many weeks after recon surgery can you start this? And how many months shoud these exercises be done for ?

    • @oiwk
      @oiwk  Před rokem +2

      Phase 1 can be started the next day after surgery. I still have patients doing these mat exercises until they are released. I use them as a quick warm up in the later phases. You can do these exercises 6 months to a year after your surgery.
