The Indians from the tropical forests of Chaco in Bolivia recount that at night plaintive sounds emanate from the Anaï mine.
This legend is still very present in their minds and is connected to the place where one finds this fascinating mauve and yellow stone called ametrine.
While watching this documentary film you will participate in an adventurous expedition to the heart of a little known country, Bolivia.
After several days navigating the Rio Paraguay, which has the largest reserves in the world of crocodiles and piranhas, you will be taken to a place lost in the tropical forest of Chaco in the far east of Bolivia, where wild animals and mosquitoes reign.
Bolivian miners who are long experienced in exploiting the subsoil, discovered one of the largest known geodes : superb crystals covering the edges of a chasm measuring several hundred square metres.

Isolated from the rest of the world, these teams take it in turn to exploit the precious gem, sort it and send it by boat towards Santa Cruz.
In this town, the rough crystals are transformed into superb cut stones which are then sent to various cities in the country and worldwide.
The route along which the ametrine travels cuts across Bolivia with its wild festivals such as the carnival of Oururo. The stones will be sold in the United States in world’s largest market for precious stones in Tucson, Arizona where Lorenz Baümer, the jeweler in Place Vendôme in Paris, goes to buy these rare gems which he will mount onto his creations.
I have an ametrine bracelet from Bolivia bought by my husband 11 yrs ago from a jeweller shop. Can’t understand at first why it’s so expensive then. After watching this, now I understand why.
My engagement ring from 35 years ago is an Ametrine and how I LOVE this stone ~ Thank you for sharing your passions for Gems and Stones here on yt. ~ Best Regards ~ Suse & Crew Vancouver Island BC CANADA ~*~

Incredible work Patrick👍
That cave they discovered is absolutely fabulous! What a treasure. And you were there!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
hats off to Patrick for showing insights into diamond trade, discovery and extraction of diamonds and precious stones from mines around the world...fascinated by your work..
Nothing like watching a historical factual-rich docu on Ametrine, while holding your own chunk of the gem 💛💜
Amazing gemstone...
Love the stone. Just bought one
27:50 boss be like: they are super rare to find them in this condition.
28:00 supervisor: hold my coca.
Hold my Coca haha
The coca in the quantities from an unprocessed leaf it would take 5 pounds of leafs at once to get the high similar to a line of white powder in your nose. However chewing on a coca leaf has boosts of energy and alertness but no actual “HIGH”. It’s addictive like anything else like caffeine, alcohol, nicotine sugar even.
Is pure waste. we need to change this method completely. such a waste only for Money. never. It is Pure Waste and arrogance that shouldn't be encouraged, everyone who does that is, in my opinion, simply not ready for a better world and so you have to abolish it and the shareholders of this company should be stopped because that should be forbidden.
@@erins.5420 on average one kilo of dried coca leaves yields 5 grams pure cocaine once processed. Chewing Coca leaves are one of my favorite things in the world but I absolutely hate cocaine. Coca leaves have many beautiful alkaloids in them cocaine is just a small part of their psychoactive components
Always amazing how hard people will work to get some rocks, when a little bit of chemistry and glass looks nearly exactly the same...
Not the same value, but for manufacturing some colorful jewelry at very low cost - man made materials can't be beat.
Woooow...kereeen...
The end of the video said the price of amethyst is around 10-15 dollars a carat to high end items. Voillot Patrick
is selling a 12.45 carat amethyst for 479 Euro, which is 533 US. Which is almost 3 times more expensive than the highest price ametrine should get.
That is how capitalism work babe. Every hand the object changes the price goes up. Also these documentaries are old and these prices have gone up since than.
Saludos desde Guerrero
Que bonito video
I've lived in Tucson for the last 50yrs and the Gem Show in Feb. every year is a BIG deal. It was very interesting to see where some of the gems come from and how they are processed.
The Tucson show is the biggest in the world :) I bend there every year in can only imagine how much fun it must be to live there year round
I vend at the kino show come visit if you can me and my grandma sell drum that her and her friends from taos Pueblo make
@tina rmeileh The gem show is in Feb. The reason I get to go every year is that I'm here in June, July, Aug and Sept when nobody in their right mind wants to be here lol.
@tina rmeileh whats really sad is I've never been any where much outside of Tucson. I've been as far N as Denver and thats as far east as I've been too. I've been all over California and I've even gone international by dipping into Mexico. I hope someday to break my pathetic travel record lol.
@tina rmeileh That sounds more like it. Having lived in the desert all my life I'd like to see some place thats green and wet. Rumor has it there is such places.
Stunning stuff. Very good fortune to have viewed that fortune.
Most countries in Patrick's documentaries only export the raw materials and make very little profit. Glad to see Bolivia is cutting the gem locally and has local jewel designers too.
I love your videos...💗💗💗
Beautiful stone
THAT IS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD !
Love u rosemarie
So it's a mix of amethyst and citrine, how lovely.
Muy interesante video !
Knowing that the producer of this video has a deep appreciation for the beauty of gemstones and their rainbow of colors, it's an unpleasant surprise to see advertisements constantly scrolling across the bottom of the screen. Someone messed up.
My Bolivia Love You Forever in Bolivia its cold BOLIVIANITA :)
thanks for sharing this piece of history!
Muy bueno
The crystal of balance 😌
I'm curious, how precise is the temperature at which the ametrine will change color, and how much temperature variance can the stone tolerate without shattering? Could you heat the gem to very near the temp at which it would change color and then using a laser or lasers, selectively increase the heat in very small areas enough to change the color without shattering the stone?
very informative :)
Nice crystal and good Quality..
This is a big vein of ametrine
Sexy legs
What a beautiful gemstone. Only $200 for a stone like that. Even the tailings fascinate me
I have 3 for sale
love it
SEE THE WICKED-HEARTEDNESS OF THESE MINE OWNERS!!!! INSTEAD OF CONSTRUCTING THE ROAD, THEY LEAVE IT N ONLY CONCERNTRATE ONLY ON DIGGING FOR THEIR PRECIOUS STONES.
Muito bom trabalho parabéns irmão Deus abençoe
Wow beautiful stone.
Nice 😍😍😍😍😘🇮🇩
I thought it was amethyst that was heat treated on one side to look like citrine.
Wow!
Beautiful
I need to go to Tucson Arizona 🙂💯
GEE OZZ i live in arizona why you wanna come over here there aint nothin here but desert 😹 LOL
They have no clue how this gem was made and it surely did not just appear like the video shows. This is from a Titan and this was a special Titan.
The cavity could be the intestines or kidney’s of the titan
I was so enjoying this, but the scrolling ad drove me nuts. Only saw part of it.
ADHD, cannot help but read every word. Agreed, it's a nice film, but I could watch more of it if the add were scrolled less with less frequency. If someone wants to buy something they will figure it out.
stop whining its a free video no one owes you anything
so sparkling , i love my earth , so wealth !!
Hey Patrick, I’m an American living in Mozambique africa. Are you interested in making a documentary on tourmaline and rubies from Mozambique?
Does anyone know if any veins of Ametrine have ever been found in Europe. I ask because I have come across Roman gemstones that appear to be ametrine but this would be impossible if Bolivia is the single source. Could ametrine ever be found in an amethyst mine?
*This mineral bears a striking resemblance to 'Hardin County' Fluorites...even the same matrix of 'red-rock' and 'veining'*
so beautiful. if the two color symbol of love und one great love story many markets can sell for lovers
Im getting my 1st 2 Ametrine rings today HUGE ones I buy for re-sale in expensive and set in silver I wish my customers had the knowledge like this to appreciate what they own Patricks Vidoes are my favorite if they don't know the story of the Ametrine I do and wish I could keep them all inseatd of sell them very hard to find,
At 12:00...um, maybe some better tires with a more aggressive tread pattern would help that 4x4 traverse the muddy terrain and a winch wouldn't hurt either. Locking differentials would also be of great benefit for getting to and from that mine or bolting on a track conversion in place of the wheels (a little expensive but you've got to weigh the cost against what you are trying to accomplish to find out if such a conversion is worth it).
Love ametrine !
चांगला व्हिडिओ आहे
Please, give masks to workers!
muito lindo
But he didn't help push the jeep in the mud 🤦🏻♂️
Help me
Indeed
The church preached while plundering there wealth!!!! ⛪️
That's why they were converted in the first place (to be able to control them).
And still to this day < !~
the church and religions in general is all about scamming people. nothing else.
Worldwide!
Incredible tanta riqueza,y belleza de la tierra don brilla el hambre,la necidad,la pobreza.
I wish I could purchase one
nice
Beautiful ametrine crystals. I have a piece in my collection.
@Amethyst Crystal what ????
I have respect for Miguel. He's a humble badass
When was this filmed?
I wish i could visit the mine with my son. Hope❤
Is the Tucson place open all year?
At 29:00, mind absolutely blown. The only thing I've ever seen pictures of that would rival this, is the crystal caves in Mexico with the bus sized crystals. Just WOW😳😨😱
Lindas
I'm not sure you need to heat them, I like the purple better by itself.
Çok güzel
"The Cocoa is a little boost for us in our work ..... we work .... we dig here in the mine .... it's a habit we have from our Elders .... it's a mining tradition .... they've always taken Cocoa .... they were already using Cocoa ....it gives courage, energy .... prevents us from being hungry .... we can't open our mouths so .... that's what Cocoa is .... it's a pick me up when we're exhausted .... we put it in our mouths" ...
great video but is it really necessary to translate english to english @ 49:29 ?
These documentary’s are originally made in French I believe, Patrick Voillot is French and this program aired on French TV years ago.
Arfter watching this i bought 2 amertrine stones one off witch is now in a ring .a big stone .
