5 years ago I adopted an excitable, aggressive 7 year old green cheek conure. My great good fortune was that I had found your You Tube channel a couple weeks prior and I had absorbed the essentials of your training methods. Today Rio is still excitable and aggressive BUT he is very obedient! I am retired and spend a lot of time at home and Rio lives outside his cage but I never have any trouble getting him back in the cage or doing anything I want him to do. This is absolutely the best You Tube bird channel. Thank you!
Just curious to know if you have toys in his cage. If so, do you hide nuts/seeds in those toys?
@@CeeceeWhip I have some toys in his cage. I don't use foraging toys but I have a 2 x 4 table I built for him that's kinda like a sand box but with an inch or 2 of aspen wood shavings made for small animal bedding in it. I scatter oat groats and other seeds in it and he forages for them. there are also several toys and enrichment of various kinds in the foraging table. He spends a lot of time rooting around in there looking for seed and playing with the toys.

I love the cockatiel content and really hope you post more of it. My cockatiel is so stubborn. It drives me nuts, but I love him. Permission-based training is definitely a slow process, especially with a stubborn bird like him. I hope I can someday get him to where Rinny is at the end of the video. It's definitely a journey!
Let me tell you; i adopted a lil GCC and he came in untrained and VERY basic. Hes a baby and ive been using your guys' feeding system and foundations and he will come to me when called. I have only had him for one week and i have him happy. We have a good bond so far and he comes when called. He obeys happily and we spend a lot of time together. Permission based training is how we established our relationship and he trusts me. We are still working on stepping up though... Hed rather wave at me! 😂

I have an alexandrine parrot whom i brought when she was a baby... She was only comfortable with me and would eat from me only and she used to step up whenever i asked her... But once she fell sick and i had to send her to my friend for a few days but after returning she became very agitated and more aggressive... She stopped eating from me or anyone else and forgot all the tricks and bit everyone.... It went on for a year and a half and now I'm starting to improve our relationship again.. She now allows me to touch her(not all the time) she has learnt a new trick that if i say "left foot up" She raises her left foot upto her head and I'm working on the right foot😅... She even goes on her perch on command... But she has totally forgot the step up so it's difficult but I'm sure I'll eventually succeed and we will get along better than ever
That has to be a huge challenge.

great video. i have owned birds sense i was 13 and i an 66 now. i never had that issue. my bird comes to me naturally .my tiel though was a issue getting in cage at night. past tense. for whatever reason he now starts to go in at night on his own

I love cockatiels! I had one years ago and would love to get one again,I just need to figure out a system with my cats and Dobermans to keep it safe.

I have not been brave enough to get birds because I want a space where they have freedom of flight without risk or accidental escapes. If that makes sense. The space has to be big enough have live plants and plenty of toys as well as some areas with access to sunlight but I do not know if I will ever have such a space for a bird. I very much love watching birds just be birds. We have a returning pair of birds that always nest on our porch and it has always been a joy watching over them. We don't catch every danger to the babies but when we do we either relocate the threat or scare it off entirely. It's probably why those bird parents nest so close to our door.
I've been wanting to have a trainer help me with my cokatiel brandi everything wad going great with her training till I ended up in the hospital for a month she's still really sweet but I think we could benefit from some help do you know any bird trainers in colorado 😅

Hello Jamie ! I really really hope you see this comment. My male budgie " Leaf" is a very loving and cheerful boy...who is out with us on our shoulders 3 hours a day and rest of the time in cage. Off lately he has become so super hormonal that he excessively tries to breed my fingers, toenails... literally chases me if i refrain and yesterday he crossed the line when he bite my father so hard when he was not allowing him to breed on his finger. Now i know that these are the hormones speaking and not leaf, i want the poor guy to be calm and normal again. Please give any advice/ suggestions. ( We tried pairing him with a female but he ignores her big time and wants only to be around our family) Will turning off lights help? Please help cant see my best bud like this... Now we are not able to take him out of the cage

I wish I had someone to help train my parakeet. All she wants to do is bite me. She won't even takw a treat from me. She's nothing like my other friendly parakeet that I lost.

what is...too much freedom?
If you consider every interaction a training session (it is) and you have your bird out of cage a lot, but your interactions are more negative than positive it will hinder your relationship and training. Fewer high quality actions outside of cage are more valuable to build your relationship with your bird than lots of time out of cage, but not quality interactions. I’m guessing this is what she means by too much freedom.

I don’t believe there’s such a thing as too much freedom. The bird can get away with too many things maybe but too much freedom? No. The rest is fine with me.
I never like dogs or cats as pets , for me the best pets are birds 🐦 🐦⬛
