    I love my muscovies. They are so much fun. I am too attached to them and their personalities to eat them😪. I respect farms that do, but I just use the eggs and enjoy them even though I have a split flock with 8 boys and 8 girls. The drakes get into stress with one another but most of the time they are sweet, easy to care for and very nice to watch. A great choice for a farm. Thank you for a wonderful video ❤️

    Muscovy is my duck of choice as well. However the females can and do quack. Often when males force mate the females will quack loudly. As a kid I called duck mating "getting quacked"!

    Hi Megan from Megan….. we love our Muscovy ducks! I’m getting ready to do a video comparing our different ducks. Great job on this video & I’d like to add they are the friendliest of ducks. How is your favorite way to prepare the meat? 😊

    Fun fact: muscovy ducks are closer related to geese than other ducks

    Could you do a recipes video for muscovy? We are about to butcher our muscovy ducks. I had never had duck or cook it. I found only one recipe and that's just baking it. Also I love if you did videos on how to make food of the animals you grow. Rabbit, duck, chicken. I didn't grow up in the homesteading life. So, alot of things like making chicken broth or even knowing how to use all the parts a bird, I don't know. Trying to not let anything go to waste! Thank you.

      Well I really haven't had that much experience yet, we have only butchered one so far and just put it in the crock pot with spices and herbs. I'll do some more videos after I've had more experience cooking them. I'll have to do some research and experimenting. Yes there is a lot to learn, just keep heading in that direction and you'll get better and better! It's a big journey we are all on :D

    Are you selling any of your ducklings?
    We are in north Idaho

      @WilsonHomestead  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes once the nights aren't freezing anymore, we will let them hatch their own ducklings and have some to sell. If you give me your email I can put you on the list to contact when they are ready :)

    Where does someone get Muscovy ducks other than a hatchery? I have been looking with no luck. I want a good color mix not all white ones.

    I loved this video! They have so many unique characteristics that make them so ideal for a homestead. What method did you use on that drake you butchered to remove feathers? Pluck? Scald? Skin?

    • @WilsonHomestead
      @WilsonHomestead  Před 2 lety

      Yes they sure do! I love how unique they are compared to other ducks! They have such interesting personalities! So fun to watch :)
      My husband skinned it, it was pretty tough compared to a chicken, but he got it! It completely filled our crockpot haha! We want to try scalding next time and see how that goes.
