You prove to me you are never too old to learn, greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much and please stay tuned.
Excellent video and extremely educational! I had no idea.
Thanks for watching.
NTFF your videos are amazingly helpful . Your tip about having the head of the line in the guides is what I needed. I kept trying to cast a longer line after doing a long cast and kept having it collapsing. So thanks. Great recap I needed also.plus I haven’t tried much to double haul as I am still working on technique, but this made that clearer more thanks.
Thanks for watching! Happy to help.
Nice tutorial video Brian 👍🎣.
Thanks for watching.
I am just learning to fly fish and your videos are an amazing tool. Thank you
Thanks for being here.
Another Great Video! Thank You Much.
Appreciate you being here. Please stay tuned.
Thanks for the summary/review Brian. Helpful. I’m going to try the practice down on one knee. My wife should like that. 😀
Thanks for watching.
Just find your videos incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching.
Took up fly fishin 2 wks ago ,ur videos and tips help alot ,cheers from ireland
Thanks for being here.
I can't believe this is the first time I've heard that about the multi colored line, but that makes so much sense!! I can't wait to go throw some more loops now.
As Brian said here, the industry has done a poor job of explaining this to consumers. Amazing how many people don't know the reasoning.
You make it look so easy😁
"Just like Butter". It is easy!!!!
Go to channel for when I have questions. Appreciate you guys from Silverton, Oregon
Thanks for watching and always happy to help.
Great video! Thanks! You fix my casting
Thanks for watching and happy to help!
Damn!!!!! Thanks again!!!! Mind blown!!!
Thanks for watching.
Very helpful. Definitely need to work on the double haul.
Thanks for watching.
I’ve been wanting to get started in fly fishing for a few years now. One of my coworkers has offered to give me a new fly rod and reel that he purchased and never used, so it must be a sign. Over the past few days I’ve been watching a lot of your tutorials and can’t wait for warm weather. Unfortunately I live in Indy and there aren’t many tackle shops around the area that carry fly fishing gear that I know of and Columbus Ohio is a long way from Indianapolis. Thanks for uploading these videos they’ve been a huge help.
We'd still be very happy to help. That's what we do!!!! Give the shop a call.
Alot of people likely don't think about this but I was an avid fly angler prior to my motorcycle accident and often did so in a kayak from a sitting position, the practice I got there and the proper technique of letting the rod do the work has absolutely carried over to now days casting a fly in a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury. Friends of mine often struggle to out cast me because they refuse to learn proper technique for casting and attempt to "muscle" the fly in there. They are often the ones worn out earlier in the day as well! Lol great video as always and keep up the great content!
Good points and thanks for backing us up here. You are absolutely right!!!
Thank you for showing me how simple and to correct. Appears like chef work. If it’s large work I’m doing it wrong. With never a mentor, I’ve had it wrong from day one. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and please stay tuned.
WOW>>>>GREAT TIP!!!
Appreciate you being here and please stay tuned.
Brian, incredible series culminating in the rod to knee drill. I wish I had known this from lesson one, haha. I've been badly casting (tearing my underwear) for 12 years on salt and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I think you've really helped me with this one. You cast like Flip and it's just so cool to be able to learn from him through you. I would like to see the series continue with dealing with our old four letter word (air movement) and how to fish with a side arm cast to help deal with it and keep the line more out of sight of the fish. I've heard this is how the guides fish for tarpon in Key West and won't invite you back if you can't cast. I can 't deal with that kind of rejection...Please help me with those prima donnas.
Thanks for watching and please stay tuned!
After watching this video, I couldn't wait to practice the double haul on my 4 wt, (rod, reel and line all purchased at MRO by the way.). Rewatched the video and pulled out the Rio line box to confirm the taper and body (the line is single color orange.). I got out the tape measure and marked the beginning of the running line with a black permanent marker. Bingo! The double haul worked as never before. Great video! I try to buy all my gear at MRO.
Thanks so much for watching and especially for the support. We appreciate it.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching.
Been fly fishing for 3 years, was wondering why my long casts suffered at a certain distance. I now know why and how to avoid it thanks for the knowledge
Happy to help. Thanks for watching and please stay tuned.
Great video! 👌
My problem is that I'm in deep woods and bushes. I have to fly fish like I'm angling lol.
All principles still apply.
Brian , love your lessons as always and have definitely helped me out but maybe some tips on mending line while on the stream would help me tremendously....I fish small fast flowing streams and therein is my trouble trying to mend my line for drag free drift
Thanks! If you look back at his original Getting Started in Fly Fishing from 1999 he does have a few lessons on this.
Will definitely look that up...thank you guys
Brilliant tips......Like putting a hot knife through butter ......
Thanks for watching. Could not have said it better.
Beautiful video my compliments 😊. Did you do one focused to cast big bulky flies?
All videos in this series apply to casting bulky flies. Thanks for watching.
@@Madriveroutfitters thank you 😊
Thank you sharing and your teaching been getting a lot from your videos
What is the that line you are using
Thanks for watching. Not sure exactly what line he is using here but most likely it is the Flip Pallot Sight line. Feel free to contact Brian at the shop to confirm.
Love all your casting tips but I have to say when I head up to Montana to fish the Madison I just about always have trees and brush behind me in the stretches I like to fish. I have to make some very upright backcasts to keep from getting hung up so my distance really suffers. I'd like to get my flies a little further into the current seams but without wading up to my chest it's very tricky. Is there a technique I could use to get a bit more distance and accuracy when my backcast is hampered. Maybe you could do a video where you have limited backcast room and a dropoff from the bank to the water. Thanks for all your great tips.
Thanks for watching. Feel free to send those questions/requests over to the shop and they can help you there.
Brian thank you for all the lesson, my casting is improving because of your tutoring. One small question, when you teach a class or do the drills, do you tie anything onto the end of the line or leave empty? Thanks again!
He usually does not tie anything on there. A piece of yarn is sometimes helpful though. Feel free to contact him at the shop though if you have further questions.
And....thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video Brian. It is going to help me alot. What line are you casting with? Is it a Rio Outbound Short? It resembles mine that I use for coastal fishing.
Thanks for watching. The line he normally uses is the Flip Sight line from Flip Pallot and Cortland. This looks like it as it is orange on the head and white on the running line. Feel free to contact him at the shop if any further questions.
Aloha from Northern VA! I am so stoked to try the kneeling/seated casting exercises. I really think they're going to help me with some of the problems I am having with my stroke. I really embarrassed myself last week (nothing new) trying to throw crab flies on 8 wt in the wind. Question about the line color issue: Seems most of my fly lines aren't multicolored, so how can I tell visibly where they transition? Keep up the great work.
Stay tuned as he'll be talking about this soon. In the meantime, you can take a marker and make a long stripe where the transition occurs. Easy....an old Lefty Kreh trick.
@@Madriveroutfitters Duh. why didn't I think of that? Lol!
Hey, great videos! Quick question. How can you tell where the head ends if the line is all 1 color? Is it something that you can see. Haven’t had a chance to take a hard look
Thanks for watching. Please send your questions directly to Brian via e-mail or give him a call at the shop. He'll be happy to help and answer.
just brilliamt

Thanks for being here!!! Please stay tuned.
That's valid only for shooting line ? Or also for WF line?
All the video with very good explain , too much helpful for beginners as me, but I think also for upper levels of fly casters
Most if not all weight forward lines have a head and a running line. Yes. Thanks for watching.
Another great video 👍🏻 There is something that's been in the back of my mind for awhile, I practice casting in a small field beside me. A neighbor once walked by and said, "you'll damage your line by casting on the ground". Any truth to that or am I fine to continue practicing in a field? Appreciate your time and look forward to the next video
Depends on what is in the field. If basic grass you should be fine. Feel free to contact Brian at the shop if he can help further.
And thanks for watching!
Great video. What line was used please?
Brian typically uses the Flip Sight Line by Cortland. Looks like what he has here based on the color. Feel free to contact him at the shop though if further questions.
All, will I damage my line if I use a marker on my line? I have a solid colored line and love this concept of the dual-colored line.
Not at all. Brian will be talking about doing this in an upcoming episode.
What’s the length of the orange, forward section? What’s a practical, longest casting distance when we limit the line out to the orange, forward section?
Best to send those questions over to Brian at the shop via e-mail or give him a call. He'll be happy to help. Thanks.
I have deduced 3 things, you like butter, hot butter to be precise..., you are not politically correct, and you're a great instructor. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching. We really appreciate it.
watching my son attempt to cast I think he actually broke the sound barrier :D
Thanks for watching.
So if my fly line is all one single color, do I just have to know where the running line begins based on the specs written on the packaging for the fly line? I think the line I'm using starts the running line after about 26 feet. I suppose I could also just run the line through my fingers to feel where it gets thinner... or maybe I'm dead wrong on that theory?
Thanks for the super helpful videos!
Find the transition and mark it with a permanent marker. He'll be doing a video soon to show this. Stay tuned and thanks for being here.
@@Madriveroutfitters that is an excellent idea! I will give that a shot!!
There was another vid of urs i seen or almost seen, it was a clip that u could take your flies on and off without tying...what is it called again?
Here you go:
czcams.com/video/6-doOM3jabA/video.html
Sooo, I like to fish double tapers and triangle tapers for trout at short to medium distance. Same method? Thanks!
Please send any and all questions over to the shop directly via e-mail or give them a call. They will be happy to help! Thanks.
Great tips! But where can I pick up one of those crab shirts?
czcams.com/play/PLQWrNcNbEVXYOxVn9G2UQYWM7MUP_cwCr.html
I have the SA amplitude does the same thing apply?
All weight forward lines have a head and a running line. Doesn't really matter the brand or make.
How do I know when the line is at the rear position fully and ready to be brought forward for the cast? My timing always seems to be off.
Please contact the shop with your questions and they will be happy to assist. Thanks.
Nice video, but how can i find the head on a unknown-line without duo-color?
Thanks for watching. Please send your questions over to the shop and they will be happy to help. E-mail or give them a call.
I got fat on all that butter. Loved it though. Using this to teach the grands next spring.
Thanks for watching. Just practice and fish enough to offset the butter.
my fly line is only one color. How do I tell where the head is? Great video!
Check the specs from the manufacturer? Or feel it? Then put a black mark with a sharpie.
@@Madriveroutfitters ok, thank you so much!
How much line should I be attempting to release at a time? And can crap line mess up my cast?
Please send your questions over to the shop and they will be happy to help. Thanks.
That Is why I am casting with the same rod for many years and pracrising the left Hans🤣😄😄
Thanks for watching.
do you guys practise with a leader on or just the fly line?
You MUST have a leader!
What rod, reel, and line is Brian using in this video?
You’d have check with him directly on that. Send him an email at the shop and he’ll get back to you. Thanks.
Instead of sitting on the ground ,would this exercise work as well sitting in a chair ?
Absolutely! As long as your elbow stays exactly in place.
Would the exercise work with a practice rod?
@@glennsheridan9678 Yes. Will feature this in an upcoming episode soon.
What do you do if your fly line is not color coded
Stay tuned. He'll tell you!
Take a black sharpie and color a 3-6" black section where the thick part tapers to the thin running line. You can't go to big with this mark. It will fade and rub off over time but carry a sharpie with you. I carry one on the river to darken a fly at times as a bonus. In fact, on another topic, you can carry white flies and a few. colored markers and make any colored fly you like...
Is most line multi coloured or only Certain type?
@@tussle9111 Most premium lines these days are multi-colored. Color diagrams of all on our website.
Or come to south Florida and catch Peacock bass.
He’s there now!
Is this what's know as the overhang
That is correct. You don't need a special fly line to combat.
Thank you
Dude...gold nugget "remember fish are always gonna be below you"
Yes, very true words!
Can you slice HOT butter........lol
Yes....it's easy. But not too hot.
in Addition, I always thought that Lighter color line was your backing...
Bright orange fly line……always.
Someone please explain the 4 down votes. What can one find wrong with a free education to take outside and build on?
Haters have to hate. Simple as that. They are always here and they exist to try and ruin life for the rest of us. Don't pay any attention to them......we don't. We'll keep making videos as long as you stay tuned. Thanks.
Awesome Thanks
Thanks for being here.
Thanks Brian this has really help my fly casting. I really like analogy the skinny part trying to push the fat part.
Thanks for watching. Happy to help.
