  • Grover Washington Jr. appeared on the April 15th, 1977 episode of the Mike Douglas show. Season 16, Episode 146. See www.ctproduced...
See also this long form article that covers how Grover first came to the attention of Creed Taylor, and how that lead to Grover recording his "Inner City Blues" album. www.ctproduced...
Also, do you know of any other video performances by CTI/KUDU artists? Can you remember the show and the year? Leave a comment here, I'll do the work to track them down.

This is sheer bliss. Mr. Washington caressed this tune wonderfully.

Glad you enjoyed it Mike. I was able to talk to percussionist Doc Gibbs a few months before he died. You can find my piece and some recorded sections of the interview at ctproduced.com

I am so grateful this for this posting! Thank you! I dont believe there is any other footage anywhere of Grover playing with his Locksmith crew. Pretty much the entire team on the Live at the Bijou album (1977). The LP that made me a forever fan of GW Jr. Paradise and Reed Seed the other two with this great crew together. Love em all to this day.

If you've seen this week's post about Doc Gibbs passing, I've got some leads to track down for other film recordings from a little after this. If you have not www.ctproduced.com/farewell-but-not-goodbye-doc-gibbs/

This is mostly the same band, Steacker on Guitar, Gibbs on percussion; Simmons on keyboards; Vinson on drums. I don't think thats Ty Brown on electric bass, but can't be sure. These were all the core guys of Grover's band, they became Locksmith. They did loads of dates in 76/77 together.

@@higherparis I guess it a question of which album you are comparing to. Right around this time they recorded live at the bijou and that's what Mark was comparing within . The secret place album had been recorded using the 1st call musicians more than a year before. It was rare that a leader could afford to go on the road with the labels 1st call guys who had their own schedule, dates and albums. That's was the CTI/Kudu way always get the best guys for the studio dates. The
