Jiu-Jitsu Self-Defense | 4 Options For Grabs From Behind

  • Here are some defensive options from common standing grabs from behind. Aside from the rear choke grab (see a previous video on my channel for that one), these are some solutions for efficiently and effectively getting out of a double arm pin, a bear hug (2 options) and a full-nelson.
    Let me know what you think about these, and please like, share and subscribe. Also be sure to check out Aperture Fight Focused on Facebook.

      @@loyal8332 he's a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. A well-trained strong and heavy opponent will still be a well-trained lighter and weaker opponent, but a good Brazilian jujitsu school, especially one with a self-defense focus will have hundreds of techniques like the once he showed, and he is definitely posted a lot more great techniques for different situations. Just giving a look through the channel or searching knight jiu jitsu + whatever you want to learn to escape from should pull up answers to most common situations.

    I come from a boxing background but its obvious to tell a legit video like this vs a random BS martial arts self defense video. Everything starts from the feet/hips and having the advantageous positioning in that in fighting and honestly all sports. Everything and all our weight starts from our base.. Whether it be boxing or wrestling. When I see self defense videos where a guy is stacking on 3-4 different upperbody/arm/hand actions without even addressing their footwork I know its some nonsense. Especially when its supposed to be a female doing the moves. A female's hips/lower body positioning is even MORE important vs a male attacker because they cant even rely on their upperbody strength. Good shit. Straight to the point brother.

      These are practical aikido because aikido without all the conceptual make believe tree hugging crap. . Was and is jujitsu just primarily focused on weapons and stand up .. I was lucky practicing an old school tomiki aikido. . Hybrid judo /aikido loads of takedowns or (sacrifice throws ) as they were called. . Plenty of grappling basically judo without using the gi. . Like most other types of aikido it is bullshit now .. but we used to pressure test everything with no weight divisions. . Imagine how less shit aikido could be if they hit and got hit and sparred with 100% resistance and counters ..anyone that did tomiki aikido between 80s and 00s certainly did that ... I've done jujitsu for about the same amount of time .. done correctly there is little difference. .. what most of the woo woo chi aikido masters haven't learned .. that power in techniques is only through correct body placement. Not magic. .. fighting takes effort not dragon energy balls ... checkout Bruno orozco for a good take on aikido/jujitsu. . And it's practical application. . I love the knight jujitsu channel .because it reminds me of the best of aikido nd jujitsu have practiced . 99% of aikido practice is shit. . Because they chasing magic. .. 1% works because those instructors understand it is another form of jujitsu. .

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  Před 6 lety

      I was going to include that in this one but the video was getting a little long. If you don’t feel comfortable with the standard drop into base and pick the leg between your legs escape, you can elect to do more of the wrestling variation
      Common in wrestling (and one I like a lot) is to push down with both of your hands on the connection of the opponent’s hands in front of you. Drive your hips forward as you do this to try to break the grip. Once you do, you can reach back inside the opponent’s legs to hit a switch.
      I would look at wrestling videos to see good examples of this as they have to deal with this position all the time.

    On the first one would it be bad to move your arms forward and lock your hands together then bend forward? Thinking that will lock attackers arms and inflict pain. And then maybe combine it with the leg grab/lifting and fall backwards, if attacker don't give up... given the situation is more about self-defence rather than a fair fight.

    These look very practical. I see it as 3rd person, does your mind eventually “see” how, where to step when the pressure is on? I mean do you develop a feel for what a good balance point, etc. is.
    I do notice how taking a step improves your base and stability, while it adversely affects the attacker’s stability and balance, and the various rotations also help. Hm.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  Před 6 lety

      The best part of training these is that every time you train it you collect data in the form of pressure and weight distribution. You feel where the pressure comes from and you start to go with it naturally. One of the most important guiding principles is that these are based on natural bodily movements and go with the energy instead of contrary to it.

In other words, he may buckle and fall, but maintain his grip on me to the ground, not insuring the position we land in to be advantageous to me. My feeling is typically that strikes from points of disadvantage can have very mixed results. Just my opinion.

    Can you do the drop at 2:47(the rear bear hug escape) if you don't hold the attacker's legs?

      It’s doable without holding the legs, but just has less control over him once you land.

    This escape www.gracie.com.au/rear-bear-hug-defense/ is also similar to the one you show for the double arm grab.

    Thanks for teaching these self defense moves. Now my very humble question is as follows . How can a person escape the ( LAYING DOWN PARALLEL SIDE HEAD LOCK ) ? Please let me expound. You are hypothetically the victim. The bad guy rushes you. He does a powerful double leg take down on you. Now you are laying on the ground. Your body and the bad guys body are now on the ground. You both are laying down . Both of your bodies are laying both ( PARALLEL ) to one another. Now the ( BAD GUY ) reaches around your neck , with his ( LEFT ARM ). He has your neck pinned and locked very tight with his ( LEFT ARM ). Now the ( BAD GUY ) is punching you in your ( LEFT JAW ) , also ( PUNCHING YOU IN YOUR LEFT TEMPLE ) , ( HE IS ALSO PUNCHING YOU REPEATEDLY IN YOUR LEFT EYE ) , the ( BAD GUY ) is punching you with his ( RIGHT FIST ) on your ( LEFT JAW ) , ( LEFT TEMPLE ) and ( YOUR LEFT EYE ) . Please explain how to escape this move and humbly damage the ( BAD GUY ) so you can escape this bad guys move he has on you. This actually happened to me. My left eye . Had a black eye. I was hurt very bad. The ( BAD GUY ) repeatedly punched me in the ( LEFT TEMPLE ) and the ( LEFT JAW ) . Plus the ( BAD GUY ) repeatedly ( PUNCHED ME ,IN THE LEFT EYE ) I did not know what to do to escape ???? The guy was much bigger and much stronger, then me . Please if possible , please explain how a small little guy can escape this move ? Plus leave damage on the attacker? To live and survive this vicious and very lethal attack ? Thank you. If possible , please show a training video on You Tube. With the various ways a victim can escape the ( PARALLEL LAYING DOWN SIDE HEADLOCK ) ? With both of your bodies laying ( PARALLEL ) side by side to one another . The bad guys has your head in a very strong side head lock. With his ( LEFT ARM ). Now the bad guy is repeatedly punching you , in the left side of your head . With his ( RIGHT FIST ). Please if possible , explain how to escape this vicious and lethal attack ? Thank you , very much. ?????

    Oh, now that you mention picking somebody up from the bear hug that is too big... I ruined my lower back once while trying to lift the person up (deadlifting and twisting the torso is a baaad idea) like you show on the video. Maybe the second choice is best (the pistol squat one), because it doesn't matter if the other person is not big, they will harden their body, tense their muscles so as to not let you lift them, and if you put too much effort like I did, you will end up spraining your lower back, and oh, boy it hurts! It incapacitates you...

    Hey I really like your vids and insight but this doesn’t really work. In real life they are not going to be still they might thrash you around, especially in the bear hug from behind. Is there more than just these techniques to use?

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  Před 6 lety +1

      These all work. In reality, yes they might be thrashing or picking up or grabbing differently, but these work off the principles needed to defend these types of attacks. Understanding base and posture are crucial. Also, this is a demonstration at demo speed and energy. We put these to test with lots of aggressive energy, as have people for many years. These are structurally the most effective ones for these types of attacks.
